  1. *Breathe* Absolutely raging right now. Just completely unacceptable and just goes to show the media bias for what it really is.
  2. I'm about as much of a pit lover as they come but I agree with Clyde and others. I can appreciate the raw athleticism, the strength and the beauty of the breed but that's because I love them!! The general public just see dogs they already believe are killers also being confirmed as strong, agile and athletic. They see spikes and leather. Tutu's and kissing old people is the way to go!
  3. Poor woman That is just horrible. You know what really pisses me off though? Why have we heard nothing about this attack in the news? And why did this article still end up being about how dangerous pit bulls supposedly are?!
  4. I really wouldn't think anyone would go after them Cos, I would say they much closely fit the bull Arab type than the put bull type, definitely due to their height like you said and even their markings. It'd have to be a really dumb ranger to think they were pits, but I guess we don't know how far the hysteria will go. I say you're in the 'very unlikely but you never Know' category
  5. Aren't you fighting fire with fire here? Ie, looking for the part of the post with which you have a quarrel (exaggerating the alpha dog stuff) and ignoring the more substantive part (tough dog bred for big game, courageous, not recommended as a pet). Your moniker suggests that sympathetic rather than argumentative listening would be better. The author started off talking about one sort of dog then generalised to all dogs. Having worked with a lot of types of dogs, it isn't true and perpetuates the myth that dogs are inherently violent and need to be kept subdued in order to be safe. The reality is that dogs do everything they can to avoid a fight. We really have to push them over the edge to get that behaviour from them, intentionally or otherwise. If an undercurrent of thugs are still breeding game-bred dogs then we should be policing this activity, certainly. My moniker is a figure of speech, I really don't think we need to argue about it. OMG, and you call me uneducated?!?!?! Aidan is a very well respected dog trainer and behaviourist, specializing in aggressive dogs. I think it's safe to say he knows a hell of a lot more about what motivates dogs to fight and/or be aggressive than you do Matthew.
  6. I think it really depends on the individual ranger Cos. I have had dealings with so so many in my line of work and it really varies. Some will only if it has a red nose, some will do anything amstaff size/weight/physique. Which one of your dogs are you worried about? After meeting them I would think any ranger with half a brain would-be sily to try and classify any of them as an APBT. problem is a lot of Them don't even have half a brain
  7. Not in NSW either Dee Lee microchip means zilch. If an ACO sees the dog and thinks it's a pit bull it has to go through the process and they will try to declare it restricted. At least we have a process here, but in Vic it will mean the dog is destroyed
  8. Thanks so much K&P, I really appreciate it. I've let her know and she knows who it is that has made it so she should be getting in contact ASAP I think.
  9. melzawelza - She needs to contact the maker of the video if she has issues with his use of the photos she made public on the internet. It will not be hard to find him he will be one of her facebook friends. She made public on the internet? 1. her facebook profile is private and 2. She did not post the pictures of her dogs stating like a big red light 'THESE DOGS ARE APBT' which is what the video is doing. Not only is it completely incorrect (One is not APBT and the other she has no idea, may or may not), but it is incriminating her dogs! To not see why that isn't ok is madness. I had nothing to do with the making of the video. As I said she will be facebook friends with the person who did and she needs to contact him. I know you didn't make it and i'm sorry if it seems like i'm attacking you, but I suggested that you please take the video down until she has contacted him and the video has been edited. DOL has a HUGE reach and posting it here is meaning that potentially hundreds of people are viewing it.

  11. all we know is that they are now registered to him in victoria she has signed nothing, but apparently as they werent registered in sydney only chipped he can do that? Definitely not true. If the dog is chipped to her then it's her dog. Doesn't matter if she's registered it or not The reason he has been able to do this is that in NSW we have our own register that no other states use. He would have put the chip up on the register used in VIC. Does she have her microchip paperwork still? This can be used as proof that she owned the dog originally. If not get her to call a Council in NSW and she will be able to get a copy sent out to her.
  12. I didn't have to identify the dog, even though I knew what breed it was. The reason I didn't have to identify it - the dog was registered with the council and the owner registered it in plain black and white that it was a pitbull... Ok so that is one question answered. Why have you ignored the rest of my post? They were all very valid points. You state that the dog couldn't possibly have thought it to be it's territory. Actually, if it was let out every day to wander the entire oval then YES it could certainly have believed the entire oval was it's territory. Again, owner irresponsibility.
  13. I recognised two photos of dogs in that video as belonging to a friend of mine. I contacted her and she did NOT give permission for either dogs to be used in the video. Neither have confirmed pit bull heritage and one is most definitely a Stafford with NO pit bull heritage. Personally I am absolutely disgusted by this as is she. Her dogs have now been incriminated in a video promoting pit bulls in this country. What happens if an ACO sees this video and recognises her dogs??? Please remove the video and tell your friend to remove ANY DOG IN THE VIDEO THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE.
  14. [sarcasm] Totally legit reason... I mean you could give the puppy TEH GAYS!!!! [/sarcasm] Really though, if that is the reason, big loss to them.
  15. I'm sorry to hear you experienced that Matthew, it would have been very frightening. Your story brings up a few questions and observations though. How did you know that it was an American Pit Bull Terrier as opposed to the myriad of other breeds and cross breeds that can look very very similar? Ever think to connect the behaviour of the aggressive, irresponsible, menacing owner with the behaviour of his dog? I would hazard a guess that if he was laughing at his dog threatening you then it is quite likely he has encouraged that behaviour in the past - even something as simple as laughing can be very reinforcing for a dog, let alone if he had actively encouraged it. His irresponibility shows through this and the fact that the dog was loose. He may have let that dog wander that oval every single day of it's life, and as such the dog felt the oval was part of it's territory that is to be protected. Still no excuse, but again- THE OWNERS FAULT not the dogs. Sure, maybe the dog was just genetically an aggressive piece of shit, and had become that way through no encouragement or mismanagement or lack of socialisation from it's owner. But based on what you've said and based on WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT DOGS, that is highly unlikely. Your story has actually proven the opposite to the point you are trying to make, by highlighting the owner.
  16. I'm sorry to gear this happened to you Take down the house number and report them to Council. They can't stop it happening if they don't know about it. Desexing your dog may change the attitude of other dogs towards him, but If he was cowering and submissive and te dog was continuing I doubt whether he had balls or not would have made any difference.
  17. Oh my god. That poor poor child and her family. Absolutely devastating and unacceptable. This will have grave consequences for an already misunderstood breed
  18. How very sad, that poor woman But I agree something isn't adding up. He found the body, how does he know the dog mauled her?
  19. Good to hear!! If he starts letting the dog off again after a while and the Council catch him enough times they can put a nuisance order on the dog too.
  20. Definitely move the crate into your bedroom or sleep in the lounge next to it. It's too much for her to be by herself at the moment. Over the next few weeks you can slowly move the crate out of the room to somewhere else as she builds her confidence. You will be fine :D
  21. That is absolutely fascinating!! Poor little pup being dragged around... ouch!!
  22. That is just so sad and unfair. I'm so sorry JulesP. I wish you all the strength I can in getting through this. RIP Brock.
