  1. I am a member of a Newfoundland club in NSW and I saw a message today congratulating one of the members for adopting her, so a happy outcome for this little one.
  2. It's a pity a reputable rescue can't set up a fund raiser to try and purchase the property, I for one would make a donation. When is the selling of puppies in pet shops going to stop !!!
  3. Why didn't I see all this a couple of days ago, I just ordered new name tags for a couple of my dogs because they keep falling off. Would much rather the name and number on their collar.
  4. The feet on your Akita are HUGE, nice photo
  5. Hi Mish I had two scotch Collies (lassie) and three greyhounds. One a big boy who just wanted to go go go go go . Fortunately I walk multiples regularly - so kind of have a routine down pat. The Collies also help - anyone who needs a little extra training gets put between the Collies who keep them on the straight and narrow ha ha. My three regularly do public walks and "dine out" at Cafes, so it helps influence the rest. THought I must admit it still makes me laugh when you have 4 or 5 dogs out for the count at your feet at a cafe. People walk past and say "Good god - how FAR did you walk them"? ha ha. Raw was very good. Highly recommend. Right at the end of the dock. So a lovely view of all the expensive boats. Plus plenty of room on the end tables to let the dogs lie down. There was several small white fluffs of one sort or another, but most very well behaved and most carried. I envy you I could never try that with my lot, Oscar is not fond of other dogs and I doubt they would all sit quietly. Maybe I should start going with one or two and getting them used to it. You must defiantly look a site sitting with that many dogs. I guess the secret is a LONGGGG walk before hand to wear them out. Sounds like I need your collies to teach a few of mine a lesson or two. I used to walk all five of mine together on my own until I had a Kangaroo jump across the road in front of me and all hell broke loose. Now if all five go my husband comes and walks the Newfoundland.
  6. Thanks Colliehound, you know more about the coast then me I have never heard of this place. Were you the only one with dogs there or were there others as well? Taking five dogs at once is pretty impressive, what sort of dogs do you have? I doubt I would attempt it with my five.
  7. I have one of these http://www.fitfurlife-australia.com I got one second hand but even then it wasn't cheap. I mainly wanted it for my Newfoundland and as Ness said if its too short they wont be able to stride correctly. It has been exactly what I wanted and as an added bonus I can adjust it to up hill or down to work different muscles. It also has sides so the dogs cant jump off, I usually sit on a chair at the front of the treadmill holding the dogs lead. I NEVER move from this position just incase I need to pull the emergency cord if the dog trips or falls.
  8. I dont know of any cafes you could take five dogs but you could grab a take away coffee and head to this place.Lots of room for the dogs to run around and its fully fenced. Just don't go at peak times, early morning and late afternoon it gets a bit busy. http://doggo.com.au/musgrave-park/
  9. Loving this thread and love this saying 7. Remember that you take the best dog TO the show and no matter what anybody else thinks on the day, you also take the best dog home with you. I get so nervous it travels straight down the lead and rescue remedy and alcohol have been used at times  Most of the time I have no competition so lost confidence in my dog because of the saying a six point win is a hollow win. This was until he won an in show award and I was on cloud nine thinking he cant be bad after all. Lots of great tips here and plenty of tips to put into practice, thanks everyone
  10. Great photos, especially the last two
  11. I have had two back operations, one in 2002 and one in 2006 and was wondering about the same thing. As you can see from my avatar I have five dogs and I manage to groom all of them myself. I have it set up that while I blow dry them I can sit on a lower table so I don't stand as long. Nearly two years ago I brought a Newfoundland that I wanted to show, I was not sure how my back would handle it but I wanted to try. I managed to take and set up all my gear like gazebos, grooming table and carry a 2kva generator ( this is the hardest to manage) I have brought a trolly to carry it if needed. I made sure I had good shoes for running around the ring and touch wood I havant had a problem. We showed quite a lot through 2012 even to three days shows where I slept over on an air bed. I may not stride out like a the other people running around but its good enough to get away with. It does really depend on what your back problem is, maybe have a talk to your Dr about what they think your limitations are. What breed of dog do you intend showing that might also make a difference, having a giant breed dog actually helps me.Now he is two he can jump on and off the grooming table himself and in and out of the car. Plus I dont have to bend down to pat him. :) Good luck and I hope you can get out in the show ring, its lots of fun and you meet great people.
  12. Have you tried phoning the Gold Coast council, animal division? I have a couple of friends on the Gold Coast that breed and they have had to apply for a breeders permits. They have also had their property's inspected. Good luck and welcome to the Gold Coast
  13. The only one I am happy to leave my dogs with is http://www.abbeyards.com.au, they are at Mudgeeraba. The kennels are air-conditioned, and sound proof so if dogs are afraid of storms they cant hear them. Plus the dogs get out four times a day, the exercise yards are not huge but they are ok. I highly recommend them, only down side is they are not cheap Forgot to mention they don't put people dogs together unless they come from the same house hold. Alidas is my second choice and they have huge exercise areas and do run dogs together. Welcome to the Gold Coast

  15. Thank you for the bigger photo, I see lots of Dogues, I show my Newfoundland in the same ring as them. Not sure what part of Qld you are from but if near Brisbane you should come to a show some time. Maybe your breeder is one of the ones I see at the shows?
  16. Cute, need a bigger photo please
