  1. I would recommend Fluppies- http://www.fluppies.com.au/. I have a white dog and find this an ongoing battle, they sell UV sun suits, eye protection doggles and hats, as well as a nose visa. The lady was excellent, everything is made to your dog's measurements. Cannot recommend her highly enough. Here is a pic of Oscar in his Sun Suit:
  2. I mean I plan to toilet train the puppy as I did him, which is basically going outside every hour, and after, food, naps, play etc then enormous praise when they go. This worked well with Oscar. He doesn't give any real warning, he is quite quick when he does go. We do go to obedience and he never wees when we are working, I do let him after training though. I have just found it an uphill battle really, it is not a big issue now, other than I wish he didn't do it. I take him to my mums, dads and nannas (where other dogs live) he does wee in the yard a lot but has never done it inside. Does not mark inside the vets office etc. He seems to have an endless wee supply, how do I determine when he is empty? He just goes and goes when allowed? ETA- I don't know how to instill the only on grass rule? He never goes on our pavers, but will cock his leg on the bushes etc.
  3. Does she ever mark things that you would not like her to? Ie car tyres, bins? I don't know if I am just worrying to much or if it should be a real concern.
  4. How would you suggest I stop him from doing it? I find this the hardest thing I rarely catch him, and when I do I give him the usual ah ah, which he knows as no? Around the back yard he does not mark anything unusual or pee a lot, it is out the front, or in my dads/mums yards, parks, on walks etc. I am vigilant when we are out the front and I do not allow him to mark on walks. How else can I get the message through? I will not be getting another dog until I am confident in where he is at, however how long should one wait, he is coming up 3 in March and was aiming in another 2 years for another puppy?
  5. I don't know if it is a learned behaviour or as stated an instinctual one, but it is very hard to change, I only let him pee once on a walk, and he does it in bushes. But it is extremely hard to catch him doing it, and when I do catch him, I make it clear that the behaviour is not wanted, but how do I stop him from marking? The worse things that come to mind with his marking are tents when camping, car tyres and the bin? He has never marked inside since being a puppy, and has been to others' houses, where dogs have been, and has not marked inside, but it is still a major concern when looking to get a new puppy.
  6. Not sure where I should put this so I figured general was the safe bet. So Oscar loves to mark, this is a learned behaviour from my dad’s undesexed male lab, Oscar is desexed but nevertheless loves to mark. I do limit it on walks, however he still does it anywhere he can get away with it, ie a tent, car tyre etc. So my main question/concern is has anyone had a dog that loves to mark, and if so what happens when you get a puppy? We do want to get another puppy eventually but I am concerned he will mark where the puppy has a mistake. Has this happened to anyone? I really do not want to have to train a puppy, as well as retrain him. Any experiences or hypothetical’s welcomed.
  7. When Oscar was a puppy, we did have a small set back with the rain, but persistence is the key, I just went right back to basics and went out with him regularly, even if it was raining, he soon got over it and never had an accident since, however he was easily toilet trained. Good luck
  8. These puppies are going to have the best socialisation experience possible with your dogs, LOVE the photos of them interacting. They are all so ridiculously cute! Have they all already found homes?
  9. I have quite a few friends who have done house sitting for family friends pets etc. And I have heard of people who do it for a fee, essentially they just live in your house for the duration and nothing really changes for your pets, except you are not there. We are lucky enough to have family who will look after them, but if not, this would be the option I would feel most comfortable with.
  10. I have all of his DVD's, you may need to make your DVD player region free, which just means you google the code using your product number, it is very easy. You can also watch them on your computer. They are great DVDs I really enjoy them.
  11. Was so so sad- people will def need tissues. Thanks for sharing, was very moving
  12. It scabbed over quickly and the scab has now fallen off, so no big deal, for some reason he rubs some dogs the wrong way- he has poor dog social skills and is far too in your face. We had a ball. I think his coat is quite white usually, then I put the suit on and you almost need sunnies
  13. Hope you enjoy- camping with Oscar is one of the most enjoyable things we do together :D
  14. My family usually goes camping once a year right after xmas at an old shack along the Coorong, they have been going there since my Dad was a little boy and it is good chance for us to all have some down time and enjoy each others company for a few days. This was Oscar's second trip and boy does he enjoy it. Thought I would share a few snaps... Poor Oscar was attacked by the 'resident' dog on day one, but he recovered well and had a little battle wound under his eye to sport for the rest of the stay. New Xmas sunsuit made by Fluppies
  15. I stole this off of the French Bulldog thread, is truly hilarious and so easy to do. Just wanted to share. http://sendables.jibjab.com/view/Oe5L7zfzNjNlDytq?cmpid=jj_fb_self_holidays
  16. I completely ignore my dog when I come home, do not look at him, speak to him or anything. I began to ask him to sit, if he didn't listen I continued to ignore him, once he had sat and was calmer, then I reward him with a pat and saying hello. Now when I get home he still comes over and has a sniff, is a little excited as evident by the tail but by no means jumping etc, after about 30 seconds he will go and sit in the same spot waiting for me to come over and greet him. Has worked for us. Good luck :D
  17. Can't help you sorry- but you should jump on this forum http://www.armbell.com/ddbforum/index.php?mforum=ddbforum where most of Australia's breeders and knowledgeable owners are always posting advice and aiding with questions just like yours. They are excellent on there, and I am not sure how many dogue owners frequent DOL- Nekhbet would be someone worth contacting about this as she has a dogue, is a trainer and is on DOL frequently. Hope you get the info you are looking for
  18. I think the difference in how people approach and pat a puppy is crucial, if it were me, anyone could pat my puppy, as long as they were in the right frame of mind and could contribute to the socialisation, the problem is a lot of people squeel, gush and generally excite puppies... which leads to an overexcited dog later on down the track.
  19. This is something we did not realise would be so damaging to Oscar- we allowed people to pat him (with and often without our consent) and in general excite him as a puppy, boy have we paid the price, an excited puppy is something people love, a 40kg excited dog is not. A lot of people do not feel the need to even ask permission, whilst others do ask and ignore the response anyway. I so wish that I had been firmer as you have been, but did not know any better, and I have had conversations with my partner on how we will combat this exact same thing next time around. It is a tough situation and I do not know where the general public gets the sense of entitlement to someone else's puppy ETA- I don't think it is a matter of keeping the puppy away from people, which is not what you are doing, simply picking those people who are best suited and will follow your requests upon interacting with the puppy. Every Tom, Dick and Harry do not need to meet a puppy, especially if detrimental.
  20. Not a problem, once Santa has been and gone will post a pic
  21. A new UV sun suit, doggles, zisc, aussie dog mitch ball, chuckit balls and thrower and a BIG bag of treats.
  22. Thanks- that looks good and a great price. Any other DVDs anyone can suggest?
  23. Hi DOLers, Just wanting to get a bit better understanding (for my own personal observations) on dog to dog interactions/play. Thus looking to those far more experienced for DVD's I could purchase? Thanks
  24. LOVE this video- great advice I wish I had when starting out.
  25. I just got back from the Adelaide show, they had seats where the standing usually is, we were close to the front and it was amazing- def worth it. Would go again if he came back.
