When you loose someone close to your heart, you always feel such a pain, but they themselves are waiting in that lovely place, patiently chasing butterflies for you to come to them. All the best at this time. Kayann

Maybe you can give him a waxing once a week to tidy it up? First shot is an awesome picture. I wish I could take arty shots.

lovely photos and then I only just saw that something happened to him. His little mate must be feeling sad. I hope they are okay.

We saw dogs available for meat on a market sale in China on holiday there, totally different mind set to Western culture. Do not agree with it, but do accept that Eastern culture has a different perspective on 'food'. We also breed Horses and do not see them as a food source, yet those are also common food sources in many European culutres as well. Could not come a vegetarian myself, I am very fond of beef/chicken. But I have also have had pet calves so the issues has many shades of grey for me. Kayann

Our vet has a cat that lives behind the science diet, has a bed setup behind there and on the next level its litter tray. When you take a packet, you get the shock of your life as a big black and white moggie jumps out from his flat behind the stock. Frightened the life out of me the first time. Never mind our two Ridgebacks, I needed a sit down after that.

Lovely colour, but how exactly do they crop ears? I assume surgically shape the ear and re-stitch it? Is that correct?

My Husband and I recently saw a pug puppy for sale in a pet shop window at our local shopping complex when we went to the movies. I quite fancy a pug/frenchie for my next doggie and have taken considerable time to convince OH that well bred pugs do not have bulging eyes that he characterises with pugs. Sure enough these poor little puppies all had terrible conformation, bulging eyes and just looked terribly bred, hardly like pugs at all. I was disappointed for what that respesents for the breed, as well as what the future for these puppies would be if their new owners were not well informed, which seemed unlikely without access to their breeder. What Do You Wish You Knew Before You Got Your Dog?
Kayann replied to GeorgieB's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wish I knew the extra issues to look out for in having two litter sisters at the same time. In hind sight not a good idea and would not do again. As our breeder who only new to breeding she didnt think to warn us about it and cause us dramas until this forum highlighted that was the route cause of many of their issues. Kayann -

Scary experience... I am glad you are all ok. We had a strange experience once I will never forget. A man came to the front door of a house we were renting, at the time all young girls. He asked for 'Paul' and we said no, all girls here, sorry, no Pauls and all laughed. It was daylight about 4 in the afternoon. The next morning every window had been jimmed and two doors still had a crow bar and a shovel sticking out of them. Luckily the house was in Zillmere in Brisbane on the train line, so he obviously didnt want to risk breaking a window to get in, but he tried nearly everything else to break in. At the time (mid 90's) we just did not consider that a uni rental was a place of interest for knocking off, nothing in it of interest for sure except the girls in it.. but scary as!!! After that everyone on that house got a wake up call... everyone moved out and into mixed housing and the niave approach to people at the door asking innocent questions went out the door. That was such a freaky experience, as two of us were facing the same man at 4 pm the day before in our own door way... Kayann -
I often wonder about what Papers mean to a pet purchaser. As an ex registered cat breeder, there are obliously software products that allow you to easily print off Pedigree papers for a cat litter. So you can easily product pedigree papers for a liter of kittens. Can a pet store not do this as well from parents papers?

Maggots (up Date : Now Talking About Other Yucky Things)
Kayann replied to Erny's topic in General Dog Discussion
This thread has me totally fascinated.. for very different reasons.. and I am not sure I want to google what 'dead wool' is... I was raised for the first 20 yrs of my life on a reasonably remote dairy farm. On this dairy farm, all kids were farm hands and all kids got in up to the arm pits in pretty much whatever was going, be it killings or birthings or milkings or whatever. I saw all manner of maggots in those days. But my parents sold out and us kids all went off to the 'city' to learn about real life as 'townies'. Now days I look back at the things we used to do in every day life, skinning calves and tanning hides and I really do wonder if it really was me. I think you do what you gotta do when you gotta do it. But do you ever wonder, maggots are one things, but is there anything more annoying that mossies??? That just about drives me insane. -

Slade Walker in Old Mill Vet Surgery in Dayboro used to be our Vet when we were in Queensland and I could not recommend him enough. He was awesome with our two dogs anytime, as is his wife Anika and other vets he has on staff. Very personalised service and always remembers who you are and what your requirements are. Even when we moved back into Brisbane I still took all our animals back to Slade for treatment. Just brillant.. -
Can I possibly have one half Birman and half Ridgeback.. to save having to walk one ball toss three times a day and peel the other off my bed continually.. You could call it a Ridman... I am working on a visual for you as we speak.. the ridge is causing me some issues though.

We had a big issue with fleas in our last house, fixed up finally by getting tick treatment for cattle from the produce store and mixing it in a 5 litre back pack sprayer from bunnings. I sprayed the house yard with this every weekend for two months as well as spot on for both dogs and cats. After two months not a flea on either dog or the four cats. If I ever had a flea problem again I would not hesitatge to repeat this approach as I felt it was the cheapest option and worked perfectly for us. The tick product was about $30 dollars and I had heaps left over for next summer.
