  1. we have a broken dally.... he is the least busy dog i have ever owned. every one said he will be active and need heaps of play time and walk 3km per day min. lets just say if leo has to run to the letter box and back (3.5km one way) he is last to finish... the jrt's beat him every time... they take twice as many steps, but he still comes last. after we get home... he has a drink and crashes the jrt will fetch his ball for you to play some more. jrt has teeth worn down as he's ball and mouse obsessed. if you say ball or mouse in the this house he will drive you insane till he gets one of either. the dally i find easier to train than the jrt they are smart but once they get it, tis done. the dally does it IF he feels like it. so a pic of our mob... after this sort of play leo the dally has a nap. the others all head off else where to get into mischief. you will find they steal your heart. they are active... but compared to sheep dogs no more so.
  2. hey spotted devil, it would be easy to make just cut one pannel to cover the main part and stitch another pannel for the end that has no door. if the old one is cuctus then use as a pattern by unpicking... the end without the door... it's only sewing in a straight line.
  3. leo so does understand stealing..... see he waits till you leave the room to acquire the object (lets say xmas day meat) and then he knows to keep it he must swallow it whole to keep the object. or you will open his mouth and take it out. if it's too big he just runs.... fast! ;) :D so yeap he knows.....
  4. as a kid our working dogs used to roll in the wool (at shearin) and had lovely coats. alfa keri is just lanolin(sheeps wool grease). often used on paw pads. have used it also with success on horses.
  5. spotty chick aint that the truth re dallys and fetching. leo did not know anything either. he now plays with us chasey. will fetch a little but will let every other one of our dogs fetch the item. he's doing tricks too, but the consitancy is not there yet. time and practice. i will often do a 5min session 3 times a day. less is more. now days when i come home he runs threw all his trick to see what grab my attention, far better than leaping on me.
  6. tilly that's norty! but i like that for an idea.
  7. some on pf you you know ya wanta "bite" them. with sexy leo when we go to town i get "aren't you gunna breed him" i always say "yeah when i glue his nuts back on" i go by the theory silly question silly answer. ;) or the other one....... isn't it great he's so well behaved.... yeah born that way like children!
  8. no fleas here just ask leo (he fleas the hoomans regular like)..... must be a drama in flea areas. lucky we are in a flea not so common area. nor do we get ticks!
  9. i love that teenage stage..... well tis when most townie non doggie folks rehome the puppy. a lot of our dogs have come this way. no puppy puddles for us. leo for instance.... 11 mo although they said different, you could just tell. i feel sorry for the poor hoooman's cause dogs are supposed to be fun and there experience often will put them off for life. leo was challenging to say the least, he knew nothing not even the basics. i think he took the owners for a drag... each day. loose lead walking no! his name no! jumping up contantly yes! now in 6 short months for 11mo sit beg come comando crawl drop stand up on his hind legs shake roll over i can ask him to put up one paw on comand with me chosing which one. run (he had never ran out free) swim instead of try to walk on the bottom. the first 3 days sent me nuts he paced and had accidents and marked constantly i was nearly gunna put a nappy on him . turns out he had a kidney infection so he had it before he came. then he was made 2 stone lighter and he has not looked back. just keep on doing it and it will be fine.
  10. the thanks is really ellz's as she found this lot for me. due to the postage issues that you also seem to have truck companies like to only deliver to town. round here things tend to fall off the truck in that case never to be seen again. at this stage for a doggie bed leo is slumming it in an old doona from a motel where i worked. complete with cover. i have my eye on a flash water proof one. made by some folks from bega. it is swade type fabric, it only takes 5min to dry even if hosed off. cost $40.00 they will make to a specific size so the crate floor is not an issue. so long as it falls in aprox there size they will charge no extra... always a plus. i'm also gunna get an elcheapo blue tarp and make a rain cover so when we go out with horses if it rains over night leo will stay dry.
  11. here's a link to a mob that have reasonable postage as in australia post (they were the only ones that would freight rural to me. tis a tad big for leo and he's a really big dally. http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/XXL-Met...83cm-p14745.htm $89.00 + 17 for postage thanks to ellzs. oh and it came to the beach with us. it gets folded up about 4x times a week. so lots more than the average crate.
  12. having lived on a farm forever... i feel your pain for those whose dogs don't work. nothing more frustrating than a dog that won't work and having to chase the stoopid things your self, or the one that shows to much interest. chasing without being called off. *hangs head in shame* have seen many meet there end this way. great working parents does not always make for great working off spring. these days however doing more training.....(with the dally) i think most could be made good with different training methods. farmers often have methods which are often passed down from generation to generation which involve a belt for the wrong thing and no real reward for the right thing. my jrt earn there keep as ratters and mousers. the dally however has a cart but running along side is the last thing he wants, riding in style more his thing. i think he's more of a posser/ pretty boy sort, he's in for a shock i want him to run under the cart for turn out events.... as he's only 18mo. so along way to go. he needs to learn how to be attached to me without crying... i think he will.... but a work in progress.
  13. pestine poweder will kill fleas but is a bit pricey. derris dust for the vegie patch is the same stuff... but half the price....pestine will set you back upto $20.00 and a trip to produce or vet shop. derris is often in supermarkets...for $6.00 for the same amount.
  14. my friends email is tina @ snowy. net . au(spaces removed) or yes you can send to my email in profile and i can forward.
  15. friend has a husky 2years old. suddenly about the 24 october he had a seizure. he has a few in a group... then has none for upto 14 days. vet was seen and given meds to be used in case larger amounts of fits happening every day. bloods have not been done yet. it was a watch to see for a pattern. anti seizure meds have not been given at this stage. what we want is info on causes? info on medication side effects? info on regularity? etc..... wanted to pick your brains and vast knowledge.
  16. oh pf just wanted to confirm things are going well with my order... like the others money is no object...... but i'll give you 10 bucks each... not more than 15.... cause the dogs mate for free and it's not like you even had to get a stud doggie in... puppies only drink milk so at weaning time lets say 10 days i'll come with a cardboard box and take puppies off your hands... that would be fine! :)
  17. oh miss? miss, miss miss? can i change my order now, i's would lioke to add one jungle rockwheeler to my shopping cart... also do you think i can trade in the geriatric 12yo chi who snores, is incontinent and sheds chronically. that should make us even, cause he's entire and would be perfect for your breeding program  . just what you wanted for christmas. roight!
  18. me too please! just the same as in the pic...and in time for xmas... the OH will love it NOT......
  19. leo's trick is he likes you hug him while on the puter. how does he get this to happen? well he bumps your mouse hand so it flyes off the mouse while getting under your elbow so the hand falls into his arm pit, while he's sitting along side you. try getting your emails first thing in the door impossible. if you don't let go of the mouse and let the hand drop(which rewards him) the mouse goes into orbit... hence the scroll wheel is no more. even if you don't drop the hand he can bump under your ellbow still getting a snuggle... hard to stop it when 34kg insists! :) ;)
  20. those bugs would be black and orange? if so pumkin beetles is the name you are after... the reek when you squish em too!
  21. they (the doggies) live inside with us, so they get looked at a lot! vet said some humid weather and a really hot day sunday with a very bitey sun.... would have caused it to go rampant... from way down inside. being a fair way from vets and not have any 24hr ones makes it tough. first line of defense is keep things under control till vet hours. vet also said he has an odd shaped ear which "COULD" perhaps contribute... in the future to how it goes. he seems happier...although i don't think he's much different. hardly scratches at all....... he has been a bit of scratcher, vet passed it off as a breed thing.
  22. our jrts looovee possums.... for dinner! one fell out of the roof of my shed.... all hell broke loose. i thought i'd been attacked, if possum was not injured from the fall they would not have caught it. now they know what makes those noises so we get much more than whining. they will spend hours staring at the trees, in hope if they have smelt one. makes camping out very very noisey.
  23. leo has been to the vet......... he has an external ear infection. he's on ointments for 2 weeks.... ho hum! more money... 2 vet visits and a university trip ...... sigh... tis only money.
  24. he's not worried it or even shook his head since i first posted about it.. appears not to be in pain.... we have no real after hours vet, but having to call him out a second time in a week would almost be embarrassing if it turns out not to be serious. if he were in pain and rubbing ear it would mean infection or something inside. i cleaned the ear with water and it seems not to have any inflammation or any more sign of blood. there should be if it is infected?
  25. thanks folks he's not really shaking and rubbing, so think it's maybe the heat this morning...really hot here. he could have gotten hot and sweaty while i was out... then scratched the hell out of it. i have never seen malesab on sale anywhere... where do you lot get it?
