Are Frozen Chicken Necks Ok?
Bundyburger replied to Aztec Gold's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd give half a frame over necks... The pups inhale them too quickly. Grumpy, they are given whole, as they're only small and there's potential for choking, even moreso if you cut them up as some dogs will try and eat them whole and not chew them. -
Stop your children feeding her IMMEDIATELY. This is one of the worst things you can do if the dog is doing as you describe. Agree with Nek that you need to call K9Pro and get professional assistance. I wouldn't consider her rehomable either, and would be keeping her away from your children (and others) at all times until you've seen a professional.. What does her breeder have to say about it?

Do Any Breeds Fit This Criteria?
Bundyburger replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Vizsla! My boy is small, he's only 20kg and no bigger than my kelpie. He's got fully imported English lines... all his sibs are reasonably small too (and two halfs) so Im not sure if the breeding has anything to do with it? Hes drip dry, and only smells when he rolls in muck. Best dogs ever.... -
Call your vet??
-
You asked if ou were wrong, you got told that you were... That doesn't make the posters 'as bad as you'... I haven't seen anyone telling you to eff off?? Yes, the person who said you should give up your dog is wrong but you've completely overreacted, to the lady at the beach and in this thread... I also can't see where anyone is abusing you either??

Not much really.... $70pm on premium dry food for the two boys, worming and flea stuff (buy that in bulk though) and bones... When they need toys they get $4 ones from the cheap shop... their last batch has lasted over a month and they were only $35. Obedience is $70 a year but we haven't joined back up yet. Although if you include the dog friendly car, that bumps it up by about $200

Ohh I think this might fit my boy :D I will have to get one!

Let her sleep, but make sure she gets a good hour of mental stimulation (start training her name, sit etc) and playing so she'll sleep through.. If she starts crying in the middle of the night she'll probably need to get up to toilet. She won't have the bladder capacity to hold on all night. Her crate only needs to be big enough to turn around in at the moment, so you can always block part of it off if you need to. The first few weeks are incredibly hard and you think 'what have i done' but once she's all settled in, you'll look back and see it was all worth it.

Dogs That Live To A Grand Old Age
Bundyburger replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Geepers. My dog growing up got to 16... My gorgeous old girl turns 16 or 17 this year. -
It is normal for them to scream and carry on the first few nights. Remember she is a little scared puppy taken away from all she knows, and a plane trip to boot. I'd be writing a note to the neighbours just asking them to be understanding and bear with you while she settles. I think taking her to your hubby's office overnight is just cruel, what if she needs to go out in the middle of the night? It certainly wouldn't help her learn it's not ok. You are expecting too much too soon. Take some deep breaths, and just try and relax and calm down.. The more stressed you are, the more stressed she will be.
-
Let him sleep until before bed as mentioned, tnen get him up and don't let him go back to sleep for about an hour... play with him feed him, toilet then into bed for the night.
-
Yup I have one too... pretty soon he'll be curled up in a ball on the couch with his nose tucked in his tail.. Then he either stays there or hides depending. He gets ignored by us as soon as this starts when we know it's going to storm.

Tethering Dogs In The Rear Of A Wagon.
Bundyburger replied to Bundyburger's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm not sure what to use or how to tie them in the back. They'll be wearing their harnesses, and as to a dog trailer, well that's not necessary and is just overkill I only have two dogs, and they're pets. If i can tether them properly i probably won't even need a cargo barrier, I was just answering that question before it got asked... -
I've just bought a new wagon, and the dogs will be travelling in the back as they need the space. There's 6 tether points but I'm not sure what we should be attatching to their harnesses and the tether points. In our current cars they sit in the back seat, but we bought this car so that they'll have more space to sit in the boot, as two medium sized dogs gets awfully squishy on the back seat (and they get grumpy on long trips when they can't both fit to stretch out properly). The car does not have a cargo barrier, and even if it did, I'd still prefer that they're actually secure in the back and can't do anything silly. A cargo barrier will be installed when I can afford it, but it's a few months away as other things need to be done first. Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

That's just normal. His routine is all out of whack, and there's a new little 'creature' invading his space. Took a few months for my older boy to tolerate the young one, and now nearly 2 years later they sleep curled up together, which is something we never thought we'd see.
-
Ohhh i like that... good alternative to a cargo barrier.

Please, don't do that again... It's incrdibly dangerous, worse than them not having a harness on (which I'm guilty of at times). If you had an accident while he was down there, it could be the end of him.. Only reason I say this is we had an accident in our ute, and that night our boy was meant to be in the footwell in the car when we went out. For some reason we left him behind, and if we hadn't he wouldn't be with us anymore. So it sticks in my mind every time I hear of someone doing this. It never occured to me how dangerous it was until that night. The first thing I said once everything settled down was that I was so glad he wasn't there. If i had 4 dogs and a sedan I'd buy a new car As it is, we're buying a new car on the weekend.. My wagon is dying so i'm getting a new one so we have 'more room for the dogs' yet the boys are always harnessed on the back seat They are clipped in by the seatbelt using the loop on the harness but that annoys me, so I'm going to buy the seatbelt clip thingys next week.

When I was little, my parents bought two vizsla pups. I bonded very strongly with one of them, she was my girl. So when OH and I got together and he was making noises about another dog to keep his kelpie company I talked him into another Vizsla. By pure luck a litter was coming up sired by my old girl's dad. So now I have two half siblings. If this litter hadn't of come up, I think we'd have ended up wth a whippet or a smaller dog... OH wants a foxie next.
-
My aunts dog does this, but she'll also bat the other ball around the floor with the one in her mouth, sometimes 'soccering' 2-3 around the floor..... Shes a foxie x....
-
What are you feeding him? My boy gets really stinky on cheap food... put him on proplan and the smell has gone.

Crate Training A Kelpie
Bundyburger replied to Bundyburger's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I wouldn't sedate him don't worry. It's looking like we aren't going anymore anyway but at least he will be crate trained in case we ever need it -
Walk the other dog, but be sensible about where you go. My puppy got walks from the day after he came home as socialisation was really important. My boy got a jab at 10 weeks which covered the 12 week vacc as well so we were able to start going to more places a lot quicker.
