  1. Lovely to hear. It helps you to remember that there are also some very caring and compassionate people out there, we hear so many horrible stories. A happy ending. And what hero"s!
  2. Oh no, another horrible story of an innocent dog being killed. It's like a replay of my dear friend in Hoppers Crossing whose four, yes four Shelties were killed last year after being ripped apart by the next door neighbours two Huskies who broke under the side fence to do it. Three adults and a pup, her little kennel wiped out. I feel sick to my stomach. That poor wee dog, I cannot come close to how his owner must feel I am so, so very sorry for her. There is obviously a type of people who buy Huskies who have no idea of what care and management they need and innocent others have to pay for it. R.I.P dear Hamish
  3. So lovely to see a happy story. I'm sure both will have a very bright future! Thank you for posting this, as there is so many sad stories around, we need to see the good ones too. Brilliant!
  4. God Bless both of them! What a lovely story, I wish there were a lot more like that
  5. I come from the same situation as you and remember the '80's well and so agree with all you have posted. In the Shelties I feel very passionate, as there is now getting so much emphasis on glamour and "showing fools" that you have to wonder if the dogs would be capable to do what they were bred for, also sadly, to me is the American influence which has crept in when they are a VERY different type to the British Sheltie which is something which is very closely guarded against in the UK. OK I'm raving, but opinions were asked for! My big thing would be for people to CONSTANTLY refer to their Breeds Standard from the country of origin and not to be swayed by trends. Off my soapbox now!
  6. Who's going? Sounds like the weather will be lovely!
  7. Thank you so much for posting this article which is so vey pertinent to everybody striving to breed to the Breed Standard of their breed. I wish everybody would read it.
  8. I totally agree, I love seeing the veterans and to me they are the backbone of the breed. I always give them a cheer and the respect they deserve and think it's terrific of the dogs and owners to come out. Sadly I have seen at our speciality show them being just ignored when they have come into the ring apart from a few spectators sitting around the ring which I think is very sad and shows such ignorance and bad manners. Go the golden oldies! Love you all! ;)
  9. Has anyone got any results from Group 5? Thanks in advance.
  10. I can remember using a "Halti" on my sister's German Shepherd who she had never taught to walk properly on the lead. I only had to use it a couple of times and then I used to have her normal check chain on her and start out on the halti , then I would slip it onto her neck and she would walk perfectly. If she pulled I would say" halti" and put it back on her. It only took a couple of goes and she was walking beautifully. Dogs are not stupid and it went from Alex lungeing on the end of the lead to being a totally sensible dog who was a pleasure to walk . Any "aid" can be bad if used in the wrong way. I found the halti a great help.
  11. What fantastic results, CONGRATULATIONS!! It is lovely to see Irish Wolfhounds doing so well. That was a terrific achievement, and I hope many more for you all.
  12. Does anyone have any Group 5 results? Thank you
  13. Personally I think a dog with a conformation championship should be excluded from exhibition in the neuter classes for this reason. I am with you on this, why does a titled dog need to add another title? There are veteren classes for older "retired dogs". Is there a cut off age for general showing? Maybe at some later time there could be a class where neutered dogs are shown with the others. In the UK speyed bitches can be shown in the ordinary classes. I have long thought that they should be allowed out here- as far as the breeding aspect goes they are still crediting the breeder of them and if they fit their breed standard better than the others they should win. Many people do not have the facilities or want to keep un-neutered dogs but would still like to show, they may only want one dog the list goes on.........
  14. Yes up in Group 5 we heard nothing. Had no watch and friend said "Aren't we having a minutes silence at 12 ?" Went straight to judging. There was definately nothing up there which is sad. Had my own reflection on it on Saturday. Just as well.
  15. I have to say I agree with all that you say which I think is pretty sad really and may I add that if you aren't on line then you are really on the outside!!!! I know it's all about the dog etc.. but we don't live in a perfect world thats for sure and I think it helps lazy ones to look at the ads. What I really don't like is the ads where the owner makes sure that THEY are seen, sometimes its the dogs about 30% and the person in the ad about 70% !! Yes, I know the owners are proud etc. but I thought it was "about the dog" I think it's a bit sad when "marketing" becomes important. That's only my opinion anyway.
  16. Thank you for that and I understand now about the all breeds part........but still a change would be nice.
  17. I know it's a while yet but does anyone know this years judges for Royal Melbourne? In particular Group 5? I have looked on RAS website and Dogs Vic, but no joy yet, it only says schedules will be available soon. I am hoping against hope it won't be USA or close to but I doubt it. I wish they would have UK judges like they used to- even if it was occasionally. Particularly as so many working breeds originated in UK and yes I know not all But it would make a nice change. You only have to look at the numbers entered to see that it would make a BIG difference. What do others think?
  18. Minor puppy in Group 5 was J Koraus' "Hortonpark Beau". Sorry I should have said Minor pupy in Group 5 was Sheltie : J Koraus' "Hortonpark Beau"

  21. I am posting this on behalf of my sister who needs help with her dog (he is a large mature Xbred dog). At present she is living with us having come out of a domestic violence situation. Herself and her dog is in need of training for socialisation with both other dogs and people. He is quite obedient, when she first arrived he was very distrustful , but over time I am able to go into the yard with him and he is much more settled and happy. (He is in a seperate yard from our dogs, but can see them and whereas he used to go crazy he is now ok)Plays ball with you etc. I have my own views on the situation as to how he came to be like this, but that's neither here nor there. Professional help is sought. We are in the Castlemaine area and if anyone can point her in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
  22. I would NEVER EVER feed canned or processed food to my dogs. The fact that Natures Gift is cooked tells you enough as it is not raw food I make up my own Raw food diet with the meat being roo as I know for sure there is no chemicals in it. Adding seaweed meal, (pinch)brewers yeast, raw veges, fruit, bran and wheatgerm and make baked rusks of wholemeal bread and small amount of oil (sunflower or Flaxseed) the flaxseed oil purchased from Safeway health section as the one from Vets All Natural is about 4x the cost! Plus of course raw bones (usually twice a week. My dogs look fantastic and they eat every bit. I would never change plus it is really low cost, and of course you know for sure exactly what your dogs are eating. One night a week they get just veges and rice and some cottage cheese and as a treat some creamed corn in with it. They like plain yoghurt too. Hope this gives you some ideas.
  23. You can purchase Cod Liver Oil at any produce/feed store
