so you invited her to come sit with you? You don't have to sit with people from the same breed, not even the same group. When everyone turns up from our friendship group there are at least 3 different groups represented by the dogs, we have had dogs from 5 different groups under our tent city It's only very recently I have had the pleasure of sitting/showing with someone who owns the same breed as me.

you can send in an entry without actually attending. I just call it a donation. I send away to maybe 3 or 4 shows a year in this way. Helps keep them going so I have choices still next year. eg I am going to Echuica this weekend, Henty is on so I sent them a doantion. Next year might be in reverse.

You wait until your dog is turned into a shivering mess because it had 35 kilos of out of control mutt jump on it. I will protect my dog from illmannered dogs and owners by what ever means I see fit. It's why I also walk locally carrying a riding crop. I could care less what you think I should or shouldn't do, control your bloody dogs, stop using their breed as an excuse and there will never be a problem.

just do it! I knew no one, knew nothing, my only advantage, if you could call it that, was I had trialled in obedience and agility, so had a very vague idea of what was going on. And it was very vague. I sat down with total strangers who were only too pleased to help me out. I told the steward I was new to all this, in fact told the stewards at my first few shows I was a newbie. Honestly the stewards and judges were all so nice and helpful. The people I talked to and sat next to were the same. I'm not part of any in crowd, but I have a good time, after 5 years, quite a few people recognise me and we nod and smile at each other, I have made friends and we all sit together, people will help me out if I need a hound holder or a handler. Even people I don't know. It's not that hard. I don't know why some people make out it's a big conspiracy against them, I've enjoyed it since day one. I'm quite happy to sit on my own with my dogs if no one else I know is there, I usually strike up a conversation with the nearby people, I am happy to read a book, whatever. It's my day out and I enjoy it. I don't rely on other people to make it fun for me, I do that myself.

I never mentioned kicking a dog in the head, suggest you read the posts more carefully. Humping another dog is a very quick way to start a fight and I won't have mine injured just because of a very rude dog. Not to mention 35 kilo's of "puppy" throwing it's self onto another dogs back, head, wherever is not going to help the dog being jumped on. Defence is protecting your dog from another dog's behaviour.

not a funny little story at all but a nasty little story. As a first time show secretary last year I can tell you it's not bloody easy sorting out owners/handlers/payers etc whent there may be 3 or more different names to be sorted out for one dog entry. There is the owner on the entry form, the envelope is addressed to someone else and the cheque is signed by yet another person. Multiple that by quite a few and it's a massive headache. In one case I had about 4 different breeds of dogs, all owned by different people, with the numbers going to someone else and the yes the cheque was signed by yet another person. It might be your hard earned money but it's the volunteers helping out at ground level who pay in blood, sweat and tears. Instead of making fun of them maybe you could help out instead and then you'll find out just what a good job they do.

as long as the weather is reasonable will be here as well

actually one of my greyhounds walked very nicely in a haltie, never tried to rub it off, as he matured it was needed less and less, no extra training done by me, he just grew up

I disagree - you should have control of your dog by now with recall but labs are hyper excited etc for longer than 17 months... lots of dogs are hyper excited all their lives but they are not puppies all their lives and it should not be used as an excuse for poor or rude behaviour. walkers like me are not in the minority, threads have been done before about how far you would go to protect your dog, nearly all who responded said they would kick or hit another dog. As for a 17 month old lab being called a pup, that's just an excuse. I reckon the sniffer dogs, guide dogs, assistance dogs etc would mostly be doing a full days work by then.

and 17 months old is not a pup, it's a bad mannered dog who is going to end up in big trouble. No way I would be letting him off lead around other peoples dogs while he is so lacking in training. And it's not just other dogs he has to worry about, if he did that to my dog he would get a swift kick from me and your ears would burn for weeks.

how do you know that's all you have to do? Been selling pups on there recently?

of course they do! I am so sick of comments like this, if ethical registered breeders didn't advertise where most people look then those puppy buyers would never be any the wiser on how to get a good quaility puppy.

if you have really been lurking for a year then there is no need for such questions, it's discussed heaps. Your Mother is a grown woman, she got herself into this mess, she can get herself out. Best you leave her to it.

That is incorrect. Advantix does repel ticks, you are mistaking the way it works with Frontline (where the tick has to attach in order to die). I would say it is your tick prevention product which is working to fight ticks rather than the dogs diet. ;) Rebanne, I am glad the supermarket food is working well for your dogs, but I also have never had a problem with fleas. But I am not talking about fleas. I didn't reply to you though I quoted English Ivy who did mention fleas

from a human perspective. I have creps in my knee, nothing shows up on xray, sometimes it aches like anything, more often it doesn't hurt at all. I very rarely limp. I have had at least 3 xrays on the knee in the last 5 years but nothing shows up.

what ? those little shows held on week days, where all the Judges rock up ? I also don't buy the line of it's the handler not the dog. If a dog is good enough it will win groups, full stop. I agree if a dog is good enough it will win groups but I also think that some dogs do win because of who is on the end of the lead. so there is more then one way to be a petrol champion imo, it's not just the people who title their dogs on 6 point challenges. It's a pity the system couldn't work and produce worthy dogs the way it should that GayleK put so well in her post, I just object to people thinking the only "bad' Grand Champion is the ones that got there on 6 point challenges.
