  1. ANKC won't recognise it if the AKC doesn't. Best to try council again or move house. Of course you could try not registering but........ What breed and do you have a picture?
  2. Unfortunately a lot of breeders do get quite shirty if price is asked early on. Why, I have no idea. Not in the breed but I would have said around $2500. At least ish has no trouble helping someone out. Good luck!
  3. Maybe you should read their previous posts Thistle
  4. Really you have no idea what your dog does while he is out roaming. Just because you think he won't go into a neighbours yard doesn't mean he won't. I am sure the owner of the small female is thrilled at having your large breed male hanging around all the time. Man up and start being a responsible dog owner. Keep your dog in it's own yard for starters. Your dog is a full grown adult of a breed many people are scared of.
  5. As I am seeing this 9 hrs later I can't offer any advice but I hope Bunter is feeling better this morning
  6. Nup, all they are doing is making space for more and more dogs to be bred there. By buying from someone that even the OP thinks is dodgy they are supporting an unethical breeder, they are enabling them to keep breeding.
  7. no advice. You've been given plenty and are still prepared to support these awful people in their money making scheme. I hope it all turns out well for your son's sake.
  8. wipe the deposit off. Lesson learnt. Pounds are not the best place to learn about dogs and their needs. I don't know anyone who slathers sunscreen on their dogs purely because of their colour. Even dark dogs with minimal hair like smooth coats would need sunscreen on their tummies, snouts etc if what the pound said is true. I have white and brindle greyhounds, same coat as a whippet and they have never had sunscreen on them. If I did take them to the beach then maybe on the snouts and bellies but quite frankly I'd have them under the shade umbrella mainly. If you are taking kids with you then you surely would be taking some shade for them? If it's just for taking the dogs for a run then you are not going to be out for hours and in the summer time one hopes it will be in the early hours of the morning or the late evening. Exercising in the heat would be more of a worry then a bit of sun. I suggest you look at the breeders websites here and also the state clubs. There is so much more to a whippet then putting sunscreen on and so much more to a brindle as well. I understand you might like or dislike a colour and I am happy to admit to having a personal preference but when there are kids involved what you really want is a dog that suits them, not a particular colour or sex. When I fostered for Greyhound Adoption I said send me only males as I would never keep a male and I was told, rightly, nicely, I would take what I was given because I had cats. The first 2 greyhounds I kept from them were both males! and I often think on what I would have missed out on if those 2 had not come into my life.
  9. I've read of 3 dogs that have been diagnosed with ME and fed Advance dermacare on FB. At least 2 have been put down. It's a very demanding disease. Fern's was relatively mild and we battled on for over 12 months but I wouldn't put any dog through that again.
  10. I was never really asked what I was feeding to my adult dog when she was diagnosed. But I bet vets are asking about food in more depth now. Which is a bit late for the dogs recently diagnosed.
  11. this video is very interesting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNDWvejza4c&feature=youtu.be
  12. Yes a lot of breeders will refund the puppy buyer. Yes it's common to charge puppy price for a 12 month old dog.
  13. I have reported this post as it's in the wrong place. Hopefully you will get answers when it's in the right place. They look like good scores to me. Remember as well the environment and up bringing also play a potential part in poor scores.
  14. You just correct her with the prong because you can't control yourself. Admitted in your first post.
  15. Ab's for sure and get a blood test for her prog levels. If they are low she can be supplemented with progesterone to help her hold on to th ebabies
  16. Oh Stitch. One of my guides would be having to give more and more meds. I don't use the still eating so they must be ok thing. My last one, Fern, she looked at me and clearly said I am sick of this please make it stop. Fern was still eating but she had adult onset mega esophagus. Battled it for a year. I wouldn't put a dog through that again. Really look at your girl, you'll know when.
  17. It's such a hard question to answer. For me, once I start asking that question then I start making plans. We all have such individuals ideals. I know I will go earlier rather than later having left it too late by 12 hrs for one dog. I vowed never again. Dogs live in the moment, they don't stay awake at night thinking what if. I wish you all the best with your decision, it is never easy. Big hugs to you and your girl.
  18. The breeder should have been approached long before this. You really need a 2nd opinion. Can you take the dog for a couple of weeks and get it to a specialist? I bred a dog with OCD in the shoulder, was diagnosed by 4 months, seen by a specialist shortly after. He told me that by operating to scrape out all the cartilage etc the dog still would not be right, so I didn't. This was a pup I kept. As it turns out the dog was pretty much a lemon and was relieved of all pain before he was 4. Sh!t happens no matter how careful anyone is. Broke my heart. But I would want a 2nd opinion and hopefully by a specialist, before doing surgery. This where the breeder might have been able to help.
  19. I too favour the water through the door. Has worked well on several greyhounds Maybe you could set him up when Thistle is already in the house?
  20. A very wise judge said once, something along the lines of; get the most experienced judge to judge at breed level ( as that is hardest ), the next experienced at group level and the least experienced at show level. Because once you get to BIS you have 7 amazing dogs to judge and anyone of them could could win. Makes sense to me. And I am not knocking any judge least of all one worthy of judging BIS at Crufts. I didn't see the BIS judging but you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I firmly believe that yes personal preference can come into play. We are all influenced one way or another and if you have 7 wonderful dogs to choose from but you know one breed a little bit better then the other 6, can see how well it fits the standard just a fraction more then the others, then yes you might choose that one. It's why exhibitors like to show under judges who know their breed, hoping that if everything else is equal, then familiarity with your breed might get you over the line. I used to keep a list of judges that had given a class in group, or more, to a greyhound, being excited they were prepared to put up what is a rare breed in the ring ( as long as it was of suitable standard of course ) Most show people do similar. If you have a choice of going under someone who has put your breed up or going to another show where a judge has never put your breed up guess which one most would choose? Flame suit firmly on
