  1. Oooooooo Aussie babies. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
  2. Oh I am so glad Clancy is settling in well PS. Picture is gorgeous, he does look very smoochable.
  3. Gave Charlie Brown his first wash today. He's smelling luuuurvely now He was a bit unsure at first but with lots of 'good boy Charlie' reassurances he soon got used to it aaaand got a chicken carcass for a treat. He ate it very well, nice and slowly, didn't wolf it down worryingly fast, like some others I could mention. (Jenna the big pig!!) Here's a couple more photos. I just love taking pictures of him, he has such a great face :D He loves his deer antler from Sway
  4. Ok I know this is a pretty abysmal photo, took it on my pretty abysmal phone :D This is what greets me when I get home awwwww. :) Promise I will try and get more of them together but it's not an easy task.
  5. Yes please! I was trying to be patient but clearly I'm not! Ooo I'm excited for you Puppy Sniffer. Hope all goes well with Clancy. When Charlie Brown arrived here we took him for a walk with my two. After a very excited greeting by my 2 and a rather nervous Charlie Brown, they settled down and walked well together so we headed back and put them in the garden under close supervision. No real problems, Mya was quick to assert her dominance, tried to mount him a few times. A stern 'no' from me and after about 10 minutes they were all fine. I also have no experience of Pei, never even seen one in real life before. But from what I had gathered is they tend to be a bit stubborn and would suit a more experienced owner. I'm sure the Pei people will correct me if I'm wrong on that one though. Look forward to reading about Clancy when he has settled in.
  6. Hi Everyone, It's taken me a while to get round to this. Bloody computer has been playing up grrrrr. After answering Ams' call for foster carers we have invited Charlie Brown into our home. We have had him for a week and a half now and he has settled in really well. He had an upset tum the first day but that soon settled down and he is now eating a pooping like a trooper He has very quickly become vary attached to me and follows me round the house wherever I go. This has settled down a bit and he will stay on his bed if I move round the room. (previously he would literally get up the minute I moved )but if I leave the room, he has to see where I've gone. It's early days yet and I'm hoping he will feel a bit more secure after a while. He loves his walks and I am almost mastering the art of walking 3 fairly large dogs. Charlie can't quite decide which side he wants to walk and just when I think I've cracked it and he's walking nicely on my left, he veers to the right and nearly trips me up. :D Got to stay alert, no strolling along looking at the scenery  We get lots of attention though, and he is good at meeting people. One person said she had a SharPei x Mastiff at home that looked just like Charlie but not nearly as well behaved.(Mind you, her husband thought he may be crossed with a Kelpie ) With regard to getting on with my other 2. Jenna aka Fluffy Bum is a bit wary of him and generally just stays out of his way and Mya is in the process of letting him know who's boss. He is starting to listen to her finally. Mya gets very vocal when Charlie tries to play with her and she's not in the mood.(Mya only plays on her terms  ) Sounds like something's being murdered, but it is only noise. There have not been any snaps as yet, and hopefully won't be as he does appear to be getting the message. Really hope he finds a forever home. He has got so much love to give, he deserves to be loved right back. Will keep you updated, as long as the computer plays nice Anyway, here are some photos of the cuddle bum.
  7. This is a difficult one for me to actually vote on. Without a shadow of a doubt everyone should ask before they pet any dog but in reality this is not always going to happen. I am constantly being approached by unsupervised kids wanting to pet my 2. Some ask but a lot do not. It makes me mad but I know my 2 and I know they will be fine. If I had even the slightest doubt about whether they may react aggressively I think my only option would be to muzzle them in public. It is a sad fact but I would be protecting my own dogs by doing this because if they did bite the idiot who approached in the wrong way, it would be my dogs who would have to pay the ultimate price.
  8. I watched Eight Below the other day. Beautiful film and stunning dogs but I did think about how many people went out and bought a husky after watching it expecting them to be just like in the film . My Husky was rescued from the pound, after being a stray for what appears to be quite a while, given her poor condition. She is called Mya, does make me wonder if she was bought after someone watched the film, as the pack leader was called Mya. Sad If she was a stray how did you know her name was Mya? Her microchip info said she was called Mya but the contact details were out of date or something. No luck tracing the owners anyway.

  10. It's coming up to 2 years since Mya came to live with us. For those that don't know the story, Mya was rescued, by K9 Angel, from Blacktown pound in a very sorry state. Painfully thin, the poor little girl. She has settled in wonderfully here. Apart from her enduring urge to 'roam', she is an angel. Here is Mya 'helping' me in the garden. I swear she was a cat in a previous life. She always has to curl up on anything I leave lying on the floor, including the grass edge clippings Having a 'chat' with my youngest. Up close and personal. Mya loves faces. Especially if she can lick them
  11. Ooooooo, only just seen this. Takoda is absolutely gorgeous. I am so pleased she is helping to mend your heart Rach. Good to hear she came through her surgery safe and sound. On a side note. I can' t believe it's nearly 2 years since Mya joined us. She is doing so well. I must send you some recent pictures. x
  12. Just had a look at the Samford Pet Resort as a possibility for boarding my 2 next time we go away. For those of you who have used them could you please clarify what they mean by 'shared accommodation'. I have never experienced this before. The few times I have used kennels (for a previous dog) they have always had their own area within a kennel block, if you see what I mean. Do they really board your dog in direct contact with other dogs?

  14. Your search probably turned up my posts about Jenna and the JPS proceedure which we decided to go ahead with 2 years ago. I do not advocate the wholesale use of this merely based on breed, but with it being a 'preventative' procedure it is practically impossible to know it's efficacy. As someone pointed out, just because a dog who has the operation, grows up with no hip problems does not mean the operation was a success. You will never know if the dog would have had problems without it. It was a very difficult decision for us. By the time any hip problems begin to show it is too late to do the JPS and other surgical options at this point are much more invasive. My worry, at the time, was if I was going to actually cause problems for Jenna by going ahead with the operation. I am very happy to report that, so far, Jenna is showing no sign of any problems at all. Again, I know that could've been the case if we did nothing. I guess we'll never know.
  15. Could be the browser you are using. I find that some sites do not work with Safari so I use Firefox most of the time now.
  16. Hmm - good point - I hadn't even considered that. Not all registered dogs are "show" quality or have the right amount of working drive for main register - limited registration is a provision for that. It also stops dogs with faults being bred from and those puppies being registered. You might have 2 dogs out of a litter of 8 that are considered of high enough quality to be put on the main register, you might not have any or you might have 8. So no, i don't think limited registration is a provision for the pet market, i think it's a way of bettering the breed. I would be interested in the ANKC's interpretation of "pet market" but personally I don't consider a breeder who is breeding solely so people can have pets ethical. The breeders I know breed for themselves because they want a puppy out of a litter. The show quality puppies are then sold into show/performance homes where those homes are available and the rest are pet homed on the limited register with desexing agreements. Yes some of those puppies go into pet homes but it's not what i would consider to be the "pet market". This statement is something I find very difficult to comprehend. I have learned a lot about registered dog breeding since joining this and other dog forums but as hard as I try and understand what is so wrong with breeding for the 'pet market' I just can't. I am not into the 'Show' scene so I will admit I have limited knowledge of it but as long as all the usual good breeder practices are in place; health checks, screening homes, good care for the dogs etc (as mentioned in an earlier post) are taking place and the only problem you have with the breeder is that they have no intention of keeping any of the dogs, what is the problem? What we all share on this forum is our love of dogs. A dog who is a beloved pet provides endless joy, love, devotion and more. In return a pet dog in a loving home receives love, care, attention and more. How can someone who is supplying the means to all this joy/love be doing a bad thing. Try as I might, to see others point of view, I just can't see this one. For example, a friend of mine owns 2 dogs. A male and female. They are newly registered breeders. They have a mentor to help them. They love their dogs with a passion. All relevant health checks done, they decide to breed their first litter. Everything goes well, the pups are cared for in their home. The pups are loved and good quality, caring homes are found for each one. My friend is sad to see them leave but keeps in touch with each and everyone of the new homes. He will always care about the well being of those pups and would have them back in a heartbeat if anything went wrong. Now 6 families have gorgeous healthy, well balanced, happy dogs to bring joy into their lives. This is unethical?
  17. I took my Labrador to see Henry Stephenson in Wurtulla a couple of years ago for some acupuncture.. Can't really comment on how good he is. Sadly Holly was beyond help and had to be put to sleep shortly afterwards but might be worth a try, if he is still there. I think the vets is called Kawana Waters Veterinary Surgery.
  18. Ouch, that looks very sore. Poor Zuess. I'm sorry I have no advice, I hope someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.
  19. Oh Rach, I only just read this. Life can be so bloody bloody cruel sometimes. Wish there was more I could do but know that I am thinking of you and praying for some peace for you. Eventually the tears will stop flowing and you will be able to remember Gypsy with a fond smile. Unfortunately there is no speeding up the process. You need to grieve, you need to cry, you will probably get angry. It's all part of the process and it sucks but you will get through it, just take it a day at a time. Look after yourself. Lots and lots of hugs for you and your family.
  20. That's just awful Jules. Massive hugs for you. I hope you have someone with you now. Run Free Brock.
  21. Beautiful words, Rach, for a beautiful soul for you and your family. you did all you could, and more. Whitey was so lucky to have you, he fought a brave fight but his time had come. Be kind to yourself. Cry, scream, do whatever you need to do, there will come a day when you can think of him and smile instead of cry.

  23. Poor girl, I hope she improves overnight. To you, it's awful to see our little ones suffering.
  24. Just wanted to point out that most pet insurance would not cover these after the first year anyway. I have my two insured with Pet Plan as (at the time - don't know if it's different now) they were the only company who covered ongoing conditions for life. Most will only cover for the first year up to your limit, then the following year will not continue cover. Definitely worth checking the small print for that one. I made various claims with Petplan a couple of years ago when my labrador sadly became ill, aged 5, and died. They were not exactly prompt with payments but ultimately they did pay up all my claims without any real trouble
