  1. I'm sorry to hear about your little dog. I have always found the Hills AD tins to be great for sick animals. It is a highly palatable food but also calorie dense and nutrient rich. Most vets have it in stock.
  2. Took Stevie to the river for the first time this afternoon. She loved it! Will take a long line next time so she can swim properly. She was dying to follow Maisie in! Drying off in the grass. :)
  3. Wow wow wow!!! Just amazing!!!
  4. If he is scratching all the time, he might have skin problems and that can stink! Might be time for a vet check.
  5. That's why I feel very lucky in my job. Being a specialist clinic, we don't do any of the nasty stuff and we generally see the best pet owners. And we get to cuddle the animals whenever they need it. :)
  6. Antihistamines generally don't work very well on dogs. But I don't know the doses sorry.
  7. It's very flexible Michelle. I am hoping to do it in two years. :)
  8. The dog lunged at her face! That was no warning. If he grabbed her lip, it could easily need 70 stitches.
  9. I didn't think I would be able to handle it, but it was fine. Mind you our surgeries aren't too bad in the scheme of things (eyes) but they can still be pretty gory. We had a vet student almost faint during one!
  10. We actually see heaps of migrated chips at work. They are commonly found on the shoulder, but the other day I scanned one and it was in the dog's armpit!
  11. I'm doing it via correspondence through Box Hill. I also work full time.
  12. Nobody in their right mind would chip a newborn puppy. Imagine sticking that massive needle in a Chi puppy! It's also tough on rescue groups who often advertise before getting the vetwork done. Especially with kittens which are normally advertised from 5-6 weeks. As usual the laws make it harder for the people trying to do the right thing.
  13. My dogs live with my cats but I honestly don't know what they would do if a strange cat came into the yard. I suspect they might kill it, but I don't know. I would be devastated if that happened, but it wouldn't be my fault.
  14. Does anyone use a Pet Loo inside for their dogs (particularly toy breeds)? Do the dogs use them? Do they stink?
  15. Great videos! Love all the snakes. That poor Tiger though.
  16. The two restricted breeds were not 'slaughtered' - they were humanely ethanised. And sorry but you cannot compare being kept in a tiny cage, abused, neglected, etc with being PTS.
  17. Unfortunately I did have to take the next step with my girl, but not just for behavioural reasons. She also had severe health problems. She did make great improvements with the help of a trainer but she was never a 'normal' dog, and you should prepare youself that your pup might also never be 'normal'. Unfortunately she is now out of the most important socialisation period and who knows what happened or what she experienced with the breeder during this time. I wish you good luck though - my girl never bit either, despite being so fearful and in so much pain.
  18. I don't know if that type of cruelty is common place - but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. But I believe it is cruel and very stressful for animals to be bundled into trucks, driven for hours to a slaughterhouse, then killed (probably not quickly) in front of other animals.
  19. This is why I am a veggo. I have no problem with the concept of eating meat, but I do have a problem with the cruelty involved in producing our meat. Its not just the slaughter either - its transporting them on 40 degree days, crammed into trucks like sardines. If I knew someone who raised and killed their own meat quickly and humanely, I'd eat meat again. But until then I'll have to make do with my lentils! :D
  20. I would be bypassing obedience classes and getting some professional one-on-one help ASAP. I had a Great Dane pup with similar issues (although she was completely shut down). I got a great trainer to come and help us she made great improvements. You can't muck around with a giant breed with serious behavioural issues.
  21. That was horrible to watch. The dog looked very uneasy.
  22. It will all be irrelevant soon anyway because more and more councils are now bringing in laws that mean you must contain your cats. Cats caught on other people's properties or public property can be trapped and impounded.
  23. My dog has done both cruciates. When the first one went, she had a TPLO done at a specialist clinic. When the second one went, I spoke to my local vet and he suggested there was no rush to get surgery done. So I kept her fairly quiet (no walks) and put her on anti-inflams for 2 weeks. She is also on glucosamine and Sashas Blend. She is now completely sound! If she goes lame again I will do surgery, but I would definitely try the supplements first with Pearl.
