  1. He was a town fav and even had his name engraved on his leather collar The sore toe happened toward the end of my stay but I am sure once one of the staff at the cafe he hung out at noticed it would have been fixed because he is a big tourist draw!
  2. Can't wait to find out the June date so I can book it off work!
  3. When Ruby Star comes on can she pretty please link to the method she taught Ruby obidience retrieves?
  4. Page 3! So how did everyones weekend go? I have a minor brag with Lincoln making it into the final of baby puppy sweeps! I heard that some DOLers did really well at retrieving. And some DOlers did well at showing
  5. I know nobody cares but now I want to post pics of the loacl dogs of Greece: From Rhodes, an isolated island near Turkey (where my family is from ) This is at a cafe This gy reminded me so much of my own Lilly.
  6. I don't know if this article is written by some one who has not done much research but in Greece unless a stray is dying anyway they will not euth the strays and instead vaccinae, flea treat, desex and leave food and water out for them. They put special collars on them and they tend to belong to the community, ts really sweet. Most the riot in Athens are happening in Syntagma Square which is right near the botanical gardens where all these dogs live, so I would say its logical that dogs would be around in the protests.
  7. I will have to chat to the vet about it next wednesday whne we go get cartrophen, I have to say though we went for a walk with her today where she was offleash and we didn't really leave the property so she didn't have to come and she went really well and even trotted a little! I think the cartropehn is starting to kick in.
  8. My parents never want a pup again but are happy to rescue or rehome an ex showdog for thier next dog. This to me does not show any more or less commitment then someone who wants a pup, they are obviously looking at the dog for what it is, not because they want a cute pup ect. Age is a preferance just like colour, breed ect.
  9. Such a disposable society we live in. Heartless individuals that treat a dog like toilet paper. I know someone who rang me the other week desperate to find a home for thier chickens since they moved and can't keep them, only to find out they got a kitten this week.
  10. For agility it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year just to lay the foundations so you might find if you get a pup by the time you are ready to start agility the dog is old enough. Also try to chat to dobe breeders and people competing in agility with dobes the right age to start re joints. Some breeds you can start quite early but my Chesapeake won't be starting jumping until he is over 2 and probably closer to 2 and a half due to joint safety, better to wait and have a long time then rush it and have joint break downs.
  11. Thanks for the advice! She isn't the most mobile dog so unless visitors come to her they aren't a problem.
  12. Is this from CleanRun? I saw that and was hoping it would have free shipping, wanted to order it too! Do you mind me asking how much it cost you including shipping, and where from? ;) I got mine from Air Dogs but it seems to be missing off their website now so maybe they sold out. It was about $45 with postage. Great minds think alike. I am thinking or re-training Toby using the method and training Lincoln using it, we can work through it togther on Thursdays. You guys should share your book and loan a copy to me and Amy Maybe we SHOULD have DOL training club.

Its a really huge thick book but I like what I have read so far.
  15. Jeepers, I'm a newb too! :p Don't expect any expert tips from me! ;) Yes but you can give me and Toby excellent tips once we get there. There's nothing 'excellent' about my handling Yes but you and Kyzer will have run a heap if excellent courses by the time me and Toby are there.

  17. Take a camera because you will never believe your dog was that small once its grown up! We live less then 20mins from the airport so we just took a lead and collar.
  18. Was this Southern River training on Thursdays? When Lincoln is a little older and I am doig proper training with him I might just look into this because then I can get agility tips from amypie and obidence tips from RS.
  19. Earlier this morning. We are going to the vet weekly for cartrophen so I will get them to have a look at her eyes/ears. While she still has those moments of joy (trying to chase birds/sheep at a slow amble, getting the pups toys and throwing them around, guarding 'her' tennis balls ect) we will do everything we can, but I fully agree that when it's time, it's time and won't keep her aroud for selfish reasons. It seems like since she was 10 we have been waiting for that day when we have to make that choice.
  20. We did a hearing test earlier and she passed, but obviously needs a louder volume to be able to hear. Will have to find a way to test her sight. She is in pain, she has had arthritis since she was 5 and has bad hips. She gets cartrophen and joint supplements.
  21. My old girl Lilly is 14. Twice in the past week she has snapped at me. Once was when she was on her bed, I went and sat dow next to her, said "Hi Lilly" and started to pat her, she sprang up and snapped near my face. The second was this morning when I was sitting with my feet on the couch, I didn't realise Lilly was below me and they touched her (gently) and she snapped at my feet. Obviously I am going to be much more careful at announcing myself to her. The vet has said she is night blind but she hears ok.
  22. Lincoln's granddam is an assistance dog to a Vietnam War vetran! And his grandsire and greatgranddam on the other side would go and visit old people in nursing homes.
  23. I have a similar story from Kalamunda Royal where a lady askedme about what breed Lincoln was and chatted a bit, after she saw how calm Lincoln was (he was oly 4 months at the time) she asked if her son could pat him, I knelt down next to him and held his collar, the little boy was very gentle, letting Lincoln sniff his hand first was obviously well taught!
