Ok. Well in that case as long as the breeder is ethical where the dog comes from is probably not a big deal. If you are relying on another person for transport I would contact some local breeders to find out if anybody will be showing the next weekend or the weekend after, because it is not guaranteed that they will be there and it would be horrible for you to be dissapointed when you are so enthusiastic.

Hello I Am Don Burke, Yeah Right!
RallyValley replied to Wazzat Xolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am Don Burke Nah I hate the guy, any jerk that has caused people to tell me all about my "labradoodle" instead of asking me what breed my dog is gets my goat. -
BichonCrazy are you just looking for a pet or are you looking for a show dog?

Are the ones at K9 grippy? I don't want to teach him to mouth hard because the dumbell is slipping around. I don't think you'll find dumbells with grip on the mouth part IMO, wood encourages the dogs to "chomp" on the dumbell, as the soft wood is so enticing! But I only have one dog experience in that You can teach them not to mouth though with whatever one you use. My concern is that wet, smooth plastic can slip, causing him to use his teeth, I have never seen a dumbell up close so this fear might be unfounded They can roll the plastic ones around in their mouth. When it comes down to it, a dog can mouth wood or plastic, its you who has to teach the dog that mouthing isn't allowed Lincoln won't even squeak an i Sueak, just holds it, so I should be ok. I was just looking and if I get one that is the right sizeI should be fine. RS does Ruby fetch anything now you have taught her to get a dumbell or did you have to teach each object sepereatly.

Where do obidiene people buy dumbells ect from? Is there a clean run of obidience?
-
Quick question for obiience people I was talking to a local retrieveing whiz who uses Shirley Chong's retrieve method to teach her dogs to retrieve for obidience/retrieving. I don't have a dumbell but am thinking, because the criteria of a dumbell is very clear (because of the bell/bit) would it be better to initially teach retrieve with a dumbell rather then a canvas bumper? Or could they be interchanged and the dumbell taught after the dog already has a retrieve?

Yay! I love when the paddocks start to get green!

In the USA it is the done thing for my breed to advertise the price, I don't think it's unethical or makes you a BYB, it just means that people kow how much a pup costs, not that if they have that money they can get one. The US breeder I look up to most, also on the comitte of the American Chesapeake Club, also hunts and does obidience and pet thrapy with her dogs , advertises her own litters and litters of her progeny on her site and lmost always lists a price. However I would be scared to do it here in Australia because of the stigma attached.

The info about looking after strays came from chatting to a few locals in Athens one day, confirmed by talking to staff at the botanical gardens. (conversations were in Greek, do they weren't telling me lies because they thought I was a tourist) I emailed family in Rhodes and it's not the same thing there, it is an Athens only thing I guess.

No, not really. The show on the 22nd is a small local judges show, the one the weekend after is interstate judges and more likely to have multiple Bichons, even then if there isn't many being shown thats not a given, the best way to know is to contact WA breeders.

No shows on this weekend unless you want to drive to Geraldton! Next Sat is a all breeds show starting at 12.30pm in the arvo at DogsWest grounds.

Yeah but he also has a column in womens day where he regularly recommends "breeds" such as cavoodles, labradoodles ect to people looking for info about dog breeds, esp. those with allergies.

Some people just make you feel bad. I was recently chatting to someone at training about how I was training Toby's weaves slowly and in stages and they asked what I meant and I showed tham how all I have taught Toby so far is left side entries that he will from both sides up to about 4m back and from almost every angle. They then went on to rubbish my method,my training skills, my dog almost every thing. They just made me feel like an idiot becuase I don't want to lure my dog. I was so mad afterwards!! I think that there is a difference between advice and critisim, advice us constructive and understanding. Critisim just rubbishes you but provides no soloution or alternative. I hope you don't let those mean people upset you too much Huski, everyone teaches and learns differently and I think scent work would be something you logically teach a beagle for fun. I will start my Chesapeake on retieves really early.

I have run my dog in JD runs and almost run clean but I am going back to foundations with him because I was unhapy with inconsistencies in his training I caused. If you think your club teaches the class the methods you would use and it will compliment your methods at home then do both.(So not helpful )

He looks cute. Is his other foot shaved to? No he just has a very short coat over his legs and head. Shaved Please Tiggy he's a show dog!

I have a 14yo an almost 3yo and a 6mo. I think I will be waiting till I have a 19yo (hopefully) 8yo and 5 and a half year old to get another. This is because I want to reach a place with my younger two boys where I am not having to teach three dogs new things, I will ideally be maintaining the skills they have and be able to focus the real training on the new one in 5 years.

How Does One Become A Registered Breeder?
RallyValley replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not necessarily, although in theory that is how it works. In practice you may find that a dog that is slightly larger or smaller than the standard may be the most excellent worker. The only way to test for working ability is to give the dog work. Damn my horse mind to hell. Coming from that background has had disadvantages! -
Here is my big boof with his bandage: I don't want to curse myself here but I am surprised at how good he has been not chewing on it!
