  1. My vet told me not to use zinc based sunscreens as the dogs lick them off and the zinc is not good for them. Apparently you can get non-zinc based ones that are made for dogs.
  2. I've posted it on my facebook page as I know some people in Emerald. Hope she is found very soon and safe and well.
  3. I have most of the Michael Ellis DVDs from Leerburg and highly recommend them. Yes they are long, but I like that as they give you so much information. I've ordered the new Advanced Motivation one and have watched a little bit of the streaming version - looks up to Michael's usual standard. His info is easy to understand and he's also easy to listen to - unlike some others I've watched.
  4. When I've walked my black Newf past paddocks containing black Shetland ponies, the ponies have whinnied to her. This has happened on several occasions with two separate ponies.
  5. I wonder if it is an extension from sultanas, raisins, being bad for dogs. I think I remember reading that sulfur is used in the drying process and I think sulphur is bad for dogs. Don't know if this is correct.
  6. Who is running the Melbourne one? Advanced Dog Skills. It's on the 28th & 29th January at Bulla. Phone no. 0418 791 948
  7. Curash powder is really good for rashes - available in the baby section of the supermarket.
  8. They played it during the interval at Cesar's seminar in Melbourne. I thought it was very funny.
  9. They definitely are - I'm in the middle of one now and I know someone who is starting one soon. What email address are you using? Try Katie at [email protected]

  11. My Newf is interested in having a go too!
  12. Congratulations Murve and Orlando. Unfortunately I didn't get there to have a look.
  13. Can you advise date and venue for Victorian seminar? I would be interested in attending. Thanks Julie count me in & maybe another :D I will let my instructer know she also would be interested I'd be interested too and maybe a friend as well.
  14. She was getting better, then I got her out of the car without putting her lead on first and she took off and did a zoomie and now we're back to square one I think. :-( Stupid me! Hope you went well today. Will look for you if I get there tomorrow.
  15. Only isolated/scattered showers so you might be lucky. Hope it all goes as well as your training session. At least you know you can do it! Might get there for a look on Sunday.
  16. Lucky you! I'd love another Landseer. Where are you getting him/her from? Look forward to photos.
  17. Can't on Saturday. Thought I might try and get there for a look on Sunday. Are you competing?
  18. How exciting! When do you get your pup? I wouldn't crate a Newfie at night. I tried it for the first two nights when mine was a pup and she hated it - complained loudly! The third night I gave up and she slept on the vinyl floor. Never had any more noise from her at night. I think she was too hot in the crate. She now spends most of the night on the vinyl floor in our ensuite, or short periods on her hammock bed in our bedroom. A crate is probably ok for short periods at shows but they aren't big enough for an adult Newf to stretch out in. I bought the biggest crate I could find and she goes in of her own accord, but never stays in it for long. The extra large crates are also very heavy!
  19. I don't know why people say things like that, for some reason some people just have to suck the positvity out of things. I don't think that comment 'sucks the positivity' out of it. Most things are easy if you know how and dog training is no exception. The fact that it isn't difficult is more testament to how amazing dogs are. I've taught my Newf a lot of things and it blows me away at how quickly she learns new things. She's the first dog I've done more than basic obedience with so I've been learning how to teach the different things as we go. Thanks for posting the link Brennan's mum. Whether difficult to train or not it is still impressive to watch.
  20. I have often had similar thoughts when reading corvus' posts. Why would you put a wild animal through all that stress just for your own amusement/interest/ego??? I think it is cruel.
  21. That's the very first thing I thought of when this was mentioned to me, especially when he said to dip her feet in the solution I've used Condys solution on a chestnut horses's sunbleached coat. It looks purple when it gets on the white hair but turns brown as it dries.
  22. I'm doing the NDTF course at the moment and would recommend it. Delta only teach one method of training, whereas NDTF teach different methods of training and all the various equipment so you can use whatever method and equipment suits a particular dog and handler. Dogs vary a lot and so do people so having knowledge of different methods is an advantage.
  23. Great photos. Lovely to see Lukey looking so happy. You've done a great job with him, as you have with the others.
  24. I was thinking of coming down for that one as well, mainly for the RATG for the gundogs on the Saturday though so was only going to do the one trial....still thinking LOL Hi TO spoke to the Geelong Sec last night she said to post them by Tues in an express post thingy she will accept them, Enteries have to recieved by them no later than this Friday. the Cataloge entries should be up on their site possibly by next Tuesday Oh if you are interested there will be a talk on Tues 5th at 7pm in the Pavilion (Kcc Park) on Obedience trialing, speaker is Ross Carlson, gold coin donation, kids oopppss sorry I mean dogs have to stay at home, humans only. It wont be to long so I'm told Can anyone go to the talk? Is Ross Carlson a judge and/or trainer? I have been told it is open to all trialers & newbies, found out last night there will be dog/handler demonstrating each class with Ross, I was asked to do CCD with Orlando, only the demo dogs are to be there light supper after talk Yes Ross Carlson is both Judge & trialer/trainer Thanks Tassie and Murve. It sounds good so I will try and get there.
