How To Decide Which Rescue Group?
keetamouse replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I would really research the group, especially how long they have been going for, also stay clear of people who say they are a rescue group and as soon as they get dogs out of the pounds they go straight on their face book page and then ask for donations to help the dogs. Just doesn't happen with reputable rescue. Maree CPR -

Some Fostering Questions
keetamouse replied to koalathebear's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I have been fostering for over 10 years now and have had over 400 come through in that time. ALL the fosters are in crates at night, NEVER IN MY ROOM, as the majority of new homes will not have the dogs in their room, so it is going to be hard on the dog to then go to their new home and have to sleep in the laundry. I often lend the new owners a crate (they end up going and buying one themselves) because the dog will settle straight away and not keep the family awake all night, that is the worst thing that can happen and if the dog whinges for a few nights the new owners will get annoyed and return the dog. Gypsy Needs A New Home
keetamouse replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Meant to add that Gypsy is a Pure breed and her breeder cannot be contacted. Maree CPR -
I am listing Gypsy for Dave who needs to rehome her. Gypsy is a 4yr old female English Staffordshire bull terrier who has a beautiful nature. She loves ball games and a splash around in a shell filled with water. She walks great on a gentle leader and has attended some training. Gypsy would suit a family with older children and although she currently lives with a cat and another dog she would benefit from being the only dog in the household as she is not so good with sharing food, bones and toys. Other than that she is really good with other dogs due to training and early socialisation with other dogs. Gypsy sleeps inside of a night and we would like her to find a home where this is possible. Gypsie has been desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped and wormed Please call Dave on 0433 891 385

Any News On Ned Please?

An example of dogs acting differently with different people, I was at Qbyn Pound yesterday morning and a lady was there surrendering her Spoodle, he was whinging the whole time we were talking, I asked why she was surrendering him and she said he has behavioural problems, I then asked "what" problems she said that whinging that he is doing, he has done it for 5 years that I have had him, what else is wrong with him, she said "JUST THAT" She gave him to me and I put him in my car and then stood there talking to the ranger, he, Micky, layed down on my front seat "not a peep out of him" I had some errands to do for the next 2 hours and then drove to Lake George for Fiona in Goulburn to take back with her and guess what "not a peep out of him" the whole way 30 minutes all up. Go figure Maree It supports the argument that re-homing is sometimes best for everyone. The dog may recommence whinging in its new home though - it was probably too confused to whinge He may start again but has not since being in care so can only go on my experience of 450 dogs coming through my care in 11 years, I don't doubt that his owner was probably a stressed person and it carried to the dog, just my observation. Anyone know if JaneyA is around Daisy needs to contact her urgently, have left messages on her mobile and on DOL. Janey if you are out there please contact Daisy. Maree

I have all my fosters in crates at night, I can have anything up to 3 in one crate, don't hear a word all night, from memory I think out of 450 dogs I have had come through my place in 11 years only a hand full have taken a couple of nights to get used to it. They all get fed in the crates (one at a time of course  ) so they associate the crate with getting fed. I also lend a crate to the new owners so that the dog is settled for the first week or so, 90% of new owners go and buy one themselves. I also separate my dogs when I go out during the day, which is only for a couple of hours, I do worry about the fire thing though. Maree CPR

You can put the same dog in 5 different homes and they will act differently in each home. Maree CPR -
I have found some of the worst offenders are the educated and well to do professionals. Wonder what their back yards look like. *

Rescues And Their Adoption "fees"
keetamouse replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
My adoption fee is $380, which only increased a few months ago. I am out of pocket for possibly $7,000 over the years, I take the smalls and most of them need dentals, grooming, etc, I am now retaining $50 of the adoption fee for my costs if the dog comes back within the 2 week trial period, in some cases after only a couple of days, I take the dogs to the new owners I don't have people coming to me as I live alone, have too many dogs and it is a security issue for me. I also get the vet work done on any dogs that have had knee surgery, and I have had many over the years. I have people who cannot afford to pay the adoption fee and unfortunately they don't get the dog as I wonder how they will get any vet work done on the dog if need be. They may be a great home but I live by the saying "I just don't want "a" home for the dog I want "the" home for the dog" and it is not "what the person wants it is what the dog needs" My investment for the dog "is for life" Maree CPR -

Dump them in rescue or put them down. I was told years ago that they go back to the "breeder"
