  1. How do you know the shelter won't put him to sleep, but arn't telling you that, they are more than willing to take him back, I would be asking what they are going to do with him like others have suggested. Maree CPR
  2. It is extremely low numbers it is approx 4 dogs a week, and some of them will be from the seized pens, sick dogs etc, also some weeks we will loose some really nice dogs but a lot of the time they hold them over and they get adopted, some weeks there are none so overall it is very low. ACT has a 4% euthanasia rate. They should be looking at the BYB, they are the ones who are getting away with it. They advertise in the paper, they should be doing a blitz on a Saturday and going to their homes and checking them out. Maree CPR
  3. I cannot believe that people are actually doing this, and the pounds are allowing it to happen, after the reputable groups have been doing their rescue on DOL probable since DOL started, and the pound knows them, they are letting "unknowns" operate in this way with the lives of the dogs in their hands Maree CPR
  4. There's a reason for that. I also find it disgraceful that once again you have posted under "Blacktown List" and lumped everyone in on your support of that group. Nobody should have to look on Facebook and only Facebook to find dogs they could possibly save. I find this whole takeover absolutely disgusting and damaging to every dog in that pound. Nobody should have to be subjected to guilt trips or dogs with mustaches, just to rescue. Nobody should ever need to go through a third party to rescue a dog. Shameful. I have wanted to say this same thing for ages, thank you for doing so. Maree CPR
  5. CPR have been rescuing the smalls from Griffith for approx 2 years and would like to continue as I have had quite a few needing dentals and knee surgery so am extremely worried that if these dogs are not vet worked because of the large costs involved that these smalls may be PTS. There is not a concern for Needy Paws to take all the dogs from Griffith thinking that they will be PTS as I have said there are the groups who have the experience and knowledge and the clause 16(d) who have been doing this for years and I am fortunate that I can afford to do the major vet work. If they are involved in direct adoption from the pound my concern is that they will not be desexed etc, do we know if Needy Paws will be getting the vet work done Maree CPR
  6. I do worry when new groups pop up all over the place and they don't do their rescue on DOl but on facebook. They say on FB that they have got x amount of dogs out of Griffith Pound but some are moving on to other rescue groups, they are also asking for help with transport costs, if they are being transported to other groups, the group that the dog is going to pays for the transport.
  7. Has anyone heard of Needy Paws Rescue?? Maree CPR
  8. I know this thread is about the ones we do know about before hand that will cost money and I have a $1500 vet bill for a 6 month old girl who needed one of her front legs broken and then reset, I knew this was going to cost but still took her on as I dreaded to thing what would happen to her. I only do the smalls and most of the ones that come to me out of say 10, at least, 8 need dentals, now, I don't know this until they get to me, some rangers are pretty bad at judging the ages of the smalls (this is not a critism just a fact)I NEVER rehome dogs who have obvious dental problems, I always get the work done, and yes it is costly but once they are in my care I am responsible for them and will do what is best for the dog. 9. Chihuahuas SHOULD NOT, be desexed until at least 6-8 months old, what a shame a puppy has died because of this. What are the laws in Vic on this??? Maree CPR
  10. Keep an eye out at the pounds in her area in a couple of weeks time
  11. It is so true "Our work will never be done" Maree CPR
  12. I only use Nature's Gift on the smalls who have had most of their teeth removed, which is probably from their previous families feeding nothing but tin food and "crap" for most of their lives. Dry food is Royal Canin. A lot of the dogs that come to me will refuse and not eat anything, it has been 4 days in a few cases, I don't offer anything else but the dry, they eventually will eat and realise that if they don't eat they will get nothing else. It may sound harsh to some, but having anything up to 15 "small" dogs at any given time I can'f afford to buy extra's, the Royal Canin is dear enough on it's own. Maree CPR
  13. I always ask people to donate towards my vet bills, that way they ring the vet directly, which is all above board and they can get a receipt sent to them from the vet. If I don't have anything owing (which is rare) then I accept money if this is what they are wanting to do to help then I give them a receipt, or they usually don't want one. Some over he years have put an extra $50 in with the adoption fee. Maree CPR
  14. It's just that the little dog looks like it has 'down' ears like a spaniel (along with that colouring). Maybe it's just the photo giving the impression. Long haired Chi's have the feathering on their ears as well which from the pic give the impression of them being down, I think it is not a clear picture. Maree CPR
  15. Yes that's what my daughter was quoted. Agree they do need to be able to make some noise. I had a dog done approx 3 years ago here in Queanbeyan and all I needed was to sign a form from the vet to say she was a nuisance barker, I did not need anything from the rangers. Maree CPR
  16. We don't get the paralysis ticks here it is probably a bush tick which aren't the same. Maree CPR
  17. I would send the Chi on holidays, away from the home, for a while until it is sorted. Maree CPR
  18. I did notice the bloke with the 2 kids, his girlfriend was smoking, from memory he was as well and he was going to the pub, BUT, couldn't afford the vaccs......
  19. My vet here in Queanbeyan told me that the vets and pounds are no longer taking them to landfill they are all going out to Mitchell to the furnaces and are all put in together and then the remains are recycled. The tip is running out of land this is why they started to recycle. It is also environemental friendly as opposed to how they used to do it.
  20. It would stop me, I am a Carlton supporter Maree CPR
  21. This is not true, the RSPCA transfer dogs to DAS because their quaranteen pens are full and they do not put stays in with the general population of dogs that are up for adoption. This has been mentioned in other posts so just to set the record straight, this is the reason. The RSPCA is highly respected in Canberra and ONLY because of Michael Linke. Maree CPR
