Well folks,I tried feeding my little poo eating pup lol pineapple. He who normally eats what is put down for, lest he goes hungry from one meal to the next. He ate everything in his plate EXCEPT the pineapple.

When I brought my 8 week old mini schnauzer home he was on cooked chicken and rice together with soaked Optium puppy chicken and rice. He only gets the dry food at his lunch meal and even then, only a small hand full. It only took me a couple of days before I introduced him to raw mince and then slowly just kept adding different meats. I took him off the cooked and now he is completely on raw, and from a 3kg. bag of Optium, I still have more than a quarter left. He's been with us now for 12 weeks. He is on chicken frames, chicken wings and chicken necks for one of his meals and meat for his other two feeds. As he gets his permanent teeth, I will introduce 'harder' bones that he can eat. A friend of mine was looking into buying a pup and the breeder was feeding the litter Science Diet. Personally, I wouldn't touch it.

I also use the flexi lead and have for many years. The thing I do is when approaching someone I pull the lead in shorter so as to have control. It's the only sensible and courteous thing to do. It's only a matter of common sense. It's the person holding the lead, not the lead itself.

When I had my mini schnauzer vaccinated at approximately 16 weeks old (many years ago) he had a very bad reaction to the vaccination. His problems went on for around a week, and if I remember correctly, he was being monitored by the vet daily. He had one more vaccination taking an antihistamine beforehand and still had slight problems. From then on, I stopped vaccinating him but had his titres taken annually. He always showed he had immunity. My current puppy had his vaccinations done in two parts over a month and he was OK.

I wasn't referring to you specifically. I meant other dog owners in general.

My puppy is coming along very nicely at home BUT he is on occasions eating his poo. He is raw fed, getting a variety of meats and other proteins so I don't think he is lacking in his diet. I have just spoken to his breeder and she says she has never come across this before, and in actual fact, neither have I. She asked if I pickup when he is out there with me and indicated that may be the cause because he is trying to please me by cleaning up. I think it's only his, and not our other boy's deposits. I don't leave it around, I like to go out and pick it up when I see it there. Besides not having pup with me when I do clean up, is there anything else to be done?

Help! The First Day With New Puppy - Settling In?
twodoggies2001 replied to CodyLu's topic in Puppy Chat
Our family brought home an 8 week old puppy several weeks ago. His breeder said he had not been crated at all, and on the first night, he was put in there to sleep and he did the entire night until around 7am next morning. He is put in there whenever we need to go out or at bed time, and he has been no trouble going there. It seems like it's his chill out space. I assume this could be an exception to the rule, as I too read up and learned it could take time to acclimatise the puppy, but he took to it like a duck to water. We have an older boy of the same breed, and we just put the pup down to sniff out his new environment with the older boy following lol. They are like velcro now. Of course, he was taken out every 30 - 60 minutes in his waking hours to 'do his business' with the command 'make wee' but I must say it's so much easier having an older dog to teach him the ropes. When he's tired, let him have his own time to sleep, start basic obedience and once he's up to date with shots, socialise him with people and dogs alike. Good luck with your puppy. He'll bring much joy into your lives. -
Absolutely. These supposed 'boguns' don't realise that what they are doing isn't correct protocol with dog owners. Sometimes a quiet word in an non aggressive way will go a long way in education.

A friend of mine picked a pure bred rotti from the RSPCA, several years ago, and to tell you the truth, he was the sweetest natured dog. I also was apprehensive about meeting him initially but my fears were unfounded. He was gentle with other dogs as well as with little children. I'm still at a loss as to why such a beautiful boy was at the RSPCA.

Anyone else noticed Mynah birds coming down and eating their dog's poo? I have a pair of resident birds that wait for the dogs to go and then proceed to eat the deposit. The sit on the fence in wait

Chicken Necks And Roo Meat For Puppies
twodoggies2001 replied to luvs_mutts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I brought home a baby mini schnauzer 6 weeks ago and he was being fed cooked chicken, rice and kibble. Within 3 days he was switched over to completely raw. I started giving him chicken necks but put them through the food processor initially. After a couple of weeks, I just cut them into smaller pieces and he manages to chew through them. He also gets chicken frames, also cut into smaller pieces. As yet I haven't given wings, but intend to do so once he finishes the frames. I give him a variety of meat, including kangaroo, but I buy the human grade. There's not much that he has turned his nose up at. Basically he is fed what my older boy gets now only smaller pieces. I think he is trying to tell me that he doesn't want the kibble anymore as he leaves most of it in his plate. I bought a 3kg. bag when I got him and still have a good portion of it left. I am loathe to throw it out, so I give him a small handful every now and then. -
To Report Or Not To Report...
twodoggies2001 replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
OP has already explained that they can either walk this particular block or risk walking a highway!! In all honesty I would report them- but I keep my dogs indoors when I am out..... Sorry, where does the OP say there is a highway, I must have missed it. In post 17. http://www.dolforums...ost__p__5716622 taa -

To Report Or Not To Report...
twodoggies2001 replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't want to start world war 3, and I realise that the owner of charging dog should be more responsible, but couldn't the OP walk the dogs in a different area. I would be fearful of my dogs being hurt by offending charger and don't think it's worth taking the risk. -
Funny, but the 'ghosties' theory is the first thing I thought about too.
-
Understood. Then I must have had an exception to the breed standard. He was never 'stubborn', obeyed in every sense of the word, and you didn't have to tell him twice, or 'order' him to do anything. You just had to basically carry on in a normal speaking voice and he did what was asked of him. Our family was blessed to have such a wonderful companion in the family and we would have taken in another standard, but decided on the smaller mini because of our age.
-
This is definitely not usual. They are lovely dogs in the right hands but they are very stubborn and smart. People often say they are the hardest of the schnauzers to live with and train. Nonsense. I have had both and the standard boy was not stubborn at all and did all he could to please. He was a joy to live with and would protect the family as well as his mini companion with his life. You are right in saying they are smart, but so are the minis.
-
I have a mini schnauzer, and I guess that's about the size of your dog, and he gets 1/3 of a chicken frame, or 2 chicken necks (just to give you an idea of quantity) in the morning. He does also get the meat part of his meal in the late afternoon. If she is taking ages to eat then I would cut it into smaller pieces for her and make it easier.

When To Stop That Second Feed?
twodoggies2001 replied to Riddick's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I too have always fed my adult boys twice a day. I feed raw and natural and they get the meaty bone part of the meal in the morning and their meat part in the late afternoon. If your boy is not overweight, I would just feed the same amount in two parts. -
From time to time I have been to Petstock and absolutely cringe at the advice being given to unsuspecting well meaning dog owners. They are there to sell their products and as has been pointed out, they have NO nutritional qualifications. I actually went there to get a 3kg. bag of puppy kibble which the breeder of my baby puppy fed. If they had smaller bags, I would have bought one of them. Within a couple of days, I had him switched to raw, without any fuss or bother. I still have more than half of the kibble left and he's been here with us for 5 weeks now. If I offer the kibble now and there is raw as well in the bowl, he goes for the raw first. There must be something in that. He's a clever boy and knows what's best for him lol. Honestly, MTS I can't understand why you haven't listened to some very good advice given here, and instead gone with the advice of a pet store employee.
-
So basically the entire discussion just had here has been an utter waste of time because this basically is the diet you said Missy threw up. Where's the calcium/phosphorus balance in this???? Kerist but you are frustrating. Did you READ what I said about flaxseed oil? Seriously feed whatever the hell you want but save us the trouble of discussing nutrition with you and stop bloody asking for advice you simply NEVER take. I seriously think that MTS likes to read what she has written and start a huge debate on the subject lol

I Think It's Nearly Time For Lilly
twodoggies2001 replied to Dog_Horse_Girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was in the same situation with my mini schnauzer. Each time I thought it was time for him to go, he would rally and of course he stayed. I took both my boys for a wellness check to my vet, and she confided in me that what she saw was a very unhappy boy, and we should consider letting him go. He was almost blind, 14.5 years old, sometimes eating well, other times not eating much or at all. There were many times I thought to myself about what sort of a life he was living. He couldn't come to the park with us because he was out of his comfort zone, suffering from dementia, almost blind, he could stand out in the garden and just stare or turn in circles. Each morning I would come into the family room and to the couch where he was sleeping for the night, hoping he had passed during the night. It's gut wrenching having to make the decision. We did decide to let him go at this vet visit as we were all there, including his beloved furry friend. He went to sleep in my lap and to tell you the truth, it was a great relief to see him off on his journey. You will know when the time comes. The only advice I can give is to not hold on for your own sake. I know it's hard. All the best to you and of course Lilly.
