  1. Every warm thought coming down to you. Those vicious viral/bacterial things are determined to run their course. And the vets are giving him every support possible to hang in there while it does.
  2. 'You're not going to take our little buddy!' Just gorgeous. Brilliant ads.
  3. Gorgeous video of Bonnie ... including Don't Forget About Me, Georgia. She's such a loving little dog. Her new family will adore her.
  4. I haven't done any, but I think it's a great topic. It's made me think of all the topics I'd love to learn about ... from people who really know their stuff. I heard 2 people being interviewed on Radio National. Both had expert knowledge about dogs living beside humans in our lifestyles. One was from Sydney University, the other was from University of WA. They were so practical & down to earth. Just the kind of people I'd love to do a course with.
  5. I remember one of the most experienced & rational rescuers told us that ONCE she lost it when her foster went. She found herself running after the car with tears flowing. So, by comparison, you did very well! Seems that Bonnie went off happily with her new family. You said, when she met them before, she happily went to them for attention. Which she'll now get loads of! But you will miss her ... & so does your son and Georgia who showed what a good friend she can be.
  6. i love the coaching squad! They did very well. So did Hank & you.
  7. ESCS, your tibbie's cousin, Lily next door, is anti-possum, too. The resident possum wants to invade the deck ...but Lily's having none of it. Her dad's tried to broker a peace by building the possum a stylish possum box in a tree. Possum's not having any of that.... so no truce. Maybe there'll be a similar fall, one day.
  8. Our sweet natured gentle sheltie, Danny, leapt to the attack when the printer suddenly sprang into action. Only way to make a truce was to put the printer up on a very high shelf. In his long life, he never made a household enemy of anything else... or outside the house, either.
  9. Bonnie's sure gone from wanting to shut out a painful world, to being totally at ease with all around her. She's now confident she's loved... & that she's beautiful. What a difference!
  10. My goodness, the Princess now has the dignity and confidence of a Queen. Honestly, you wouldn't know it was the same sheltie who first came to you. Maybe her new owners can arrange some play dates with other shelties.
  11. There was a similar article in this morning's Sydney Morning Herald. But it was better balanced with a breeder of 30 years experience, Sue Rose, and the lady from Dachie Rescue, Sharman Moore, bringing the faddishness down to earth, with some realistic information about the breed. Someone should give these two ladies a bouquet for pointing out that owner expectations need to be matched up to actual breed characteristics. Just like for any breed.
  12. .... put whatever (cloths, t-shirt) in a plastic bag & secure tightly. So no wet ice bits. Can get creative with packs of frozen veggies, too.
  13. can you post a link please? Made me curious, too. Googled & found this Australian site: http://www.kulcar.com.au/?gclid=COTuhJTDgbwCFUshpQod4z4AOA Makes me wonder if it could also be used for other purposes than in cars.
  14. Herald Sun reports 19 children were rescued from locked cars. It was a mixture of accidental and deliberate cases. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/victorias-heatwave-19-kids-locked-in-cars/story-fni0fit3-1226802088521 I was at a children's party where, afterwards, a 3 yr old girl was accidentally locked in a car. The mother was desperate. Late afternoon weather wasn't too bad, mercifully. Different matter on a shocker of a day.
  15. My response was based on a breed that is specifically a companion dog.... & always was, in its history. With 'alerting' talents. So I based my answer on what I've seen the 'prefixed' breeders (who show) achieve, both as individuals and working as a group. I'm not a breeder myself, but I know what I see being maintained/developed in that breed, by those people. It's brilliant. No problem, then, in ticking the no bloody way in the poll. BUT I'm not talking about all breeds, where different purposes could apply. So I understand why 'Maybe' was polling well.
  16. I'm sorry for your loss. Our vet told me that she finds the average grieving period for dogs is three weeks. But I've found it depends on the individual dog. Also, just my experience, the older the dog, the less quickly they bounce back. That fits change being harder the older they get. Our 14 yr old girl never got over the loss of her younger 'sister'. Again, tho', still comes down to the individual dog. My only advice is to provide things & activities which are new and rewarding.
  17. Stay hydrated. When our air-con went on the blink one awful day ... I used the frozen veggie packs from the freezer as cooling pads & in front of the fan. Also put t-shirts in plastic bags in the freezer, for a bit.
  18. Lovely pic on NARGA Facebook page. Seems the authorities have been great about providing support for people's pets. They understand people's safety & emotional welfare depends on their knowing they can bring their animals with them to evacuation places.
  19. On a burning hot Brisbane day, I saw a dog in a car on the top level of our local mall's carpark. In full sun. There's a police beat office inside the mall. Qld law says police officers can intervene on behalf of animals. So I went & told them. The officers were fantastic. They grabbed their caps & took off to attend to the dog.
  20. Yeah there is. I have filled out the form with my information and they'll gather it and I guess contact everyone. That's good, Ivy. Means people with pets in need can quickly get on to people who'll help.
  21. Does that mean there's some central recording point where people can indicate they'll help with animals. If so, excellent!
  22. Ams, I realized that you just passed on that summary. Onya for doing so. It's excellent. I've now done the same as you... & passed it on to a number of relatives & friends who live in fire-prone areas. Yonjuro, the count's sure gone up, since I heard the news much earlier today. That total is now nearly double. Conditions must be dreadful.
  23. A great article ... well done. I'd add that you also give some very good advice about dogs in the DOL forums. You share your knowledge & experience.
