Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You
whiskedaway replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
Halo very rarely gets bathed for that exact reason - she thinks she's dying. OH and I were going to bath her yesterday (she and Akira STINK from their fun in the pig troughs at Mt Gambier) but for that very reason we put it off. She really needs to be done Saturday because she has a show Sunday and can't stink for that! -
Vaccination Schedule For Show Puppies... Any Different?
whiskedaway replied to Merrirose's topic in General Dog Discussion
Halo had her last vacc at 12 weeks which was actually a week before she was three months old. I waited two weeks, but if there'd been a show in Adelaide the weekend before she had her first show I would have taken her out then. -

That it is. At a week old we knew we would get a puppy - actually we knew as soon as they were born because being four girls it meant that we'd be able to get two show prospects out of it. We knew which two it'd be between by five weeks when we met them (we had second choice after the breeder, and we'd narrowed it down to the two girls) and then at seven weeks LM made her choice (which was one of our two that we were chosing between) so we took the other girl. She was my favourite from the start and I didn't think there'd be any chance of us getting her so I was quite surprised! -
They were only teensy - maybe a cm at most. The webs started appearing late Sunday then we started seeing the spiders Monday so they weren't there until the end of the weekend. I was very glad I was going home after the show on Monday, because I could not have slept another night there knowing they were all around! Don't know how Evolving and Tobster managed that last night!

Especially that one name Portia. Thought you might think that! I'm still clinging to Viola, I love it and hopefully I'll get to use it at some point. OH didn't mind that one toooooo much but it ended in A and didn't roll off the tongue nicely when put with Akira. And anyway, I couldn't imagine Halo as anything but Halo. It suits her. -

It was Fable. We had Envy, Portia and Viola on our list, but they got poopoo-ed very quickly by OH. Halo was the only one we agreed on. -
I use a 36" for my Sibe who is a little girl at 20" tall - it's big enough that she can lie down in, though her ears get a bit squashed if she stands up (it's actually the Lappie's crate, we very rarely crate the Sibe). So I'd say a 42" should be fine.

Group 5 BIG was the Sheltie. The baby was the Border Collie. Can't remember the rest, but there were a few Border Collies.

Everything except car travel (we use harnesses though will use crates when we have a bigger car. Akira was never crate trained but took to it extremely well, and Halo has been crate trained from the start. We're going camping this weekend and it's so good knowing they'll be safe in their crates, and I also use it a lot at obedience when it's only me there because there's one dog in a crate at all times. Currently I just put them in the same crate together for obedience, but that won't last much longer!

Dallas is such a cutie! ;)

Unfortunately no - but that just makes him mysterious.

Will try and get someone to take a photo of Houdini and her new lead over the weekend.

Projected Improvements - Adelaide

My baby had the best day out she's had so far and I was really proud of her. Nothing in group, but she was awesome so it doesn't matter. -

Ah I missed you, I wasn't there Sunday! And yes, the first show is the worst, it gets heaps better. -
Mine arrived today. They're fantastic, feel nice in my hand and yes, while there's a bit of stretch it's not too much.

Exciting!!!! -
No way is the one who finishes first allowed to steal the treat off the other. They eat treats outside and are supervised, so the one who finishes first goes back inside when they're done.

We have some different rules. For example, Akira is allowed to sleep where she wants (as long as it's not on the bed) whereas Halo has to sleep in her crate. However Akira has earnt the right to not be in her crate because she's proven she's toilet trained (taking herself out to toilet during the night four times when she had gastro is a good example of that). Halo hasn't proven it yet, though I've relaxed a bit and she's now allowed to sleep on the bed during the day (when I'm at home of course) because I'm trusting her more now and I know she's not going to eat the cords in the bedroom anymore. So for us the different rules are just until they prove that they're trustworthy and then they have the same rules.

She was born the 22nd or the 23rd of Feb, wasn't she? So she'd be right on three months! Perfect timing. And come on Kirst, I want to know which one she is! Isn't it crazy how quickly they grow up SmoothieGirl? Halo is five months next Monday. Only a month more and she can start earning points! -
Just saw the photos of them! They are gorgeous! Here's one of my gorgeous ones that will hopefully arrive tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm thrilled. :p

Yes correct. I've ordered mine without the clip (I loop them through the slip collar ring) but you can get them with a clip as well.

How And When Do Your Dogs Go To Bed?
whiskedaway replied to shyfig's topic in General Dog Discussion
Akira and Halo must go to bed when we go to bed. Sometimes they go earlier (normally Akira, though Halo put herself to bed last night). Last night we went to bed at 10pm, and Akira put herself to bed at 9pm and Halo put herself to bed at 9:30pm. Akira sleeps under the bed, Halo sleeps in her crate. They both sleep until 6:30 weekdays and until 7-8am on weekends. We have a doggy door, so Akira can take herself out to the toilet whenever she wants, but as Halo is crated she needs to wake us up. -
I ordered two last night from Glamour Show Leads. Am very impressed with how quick the response was and am looking forward to them arriving.

Some Breeds Less 'smelly' Than Others?
whiskedaway replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes they are provided the owner cares for the coat correctly. My Samoyeds can go months without baths and they never smell. Not drying the dog correctly would be the biggest mistake most owners make with a Spitz coat. Agreed. Get my girls wet and they stink, but I always make sure to dry them properly and keep them nicely groomed and they can go without baths for ages as long as they don't roll in something filthy or smelly. -
Does Anyone Else Miss Being Able To Buy White Bed Linen?
whiskedaway replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have white linen - if the dogs are dirty they're shut out of the bedroom, but Spitz coats let the dirt drop out easily so they're pretty good with white. Fake tan makes the white sheets dirtier than the dogs do!
