  1. Wow, how exciting WA!!! Your big day is finally here
  2. Beautiful photos! Doggies look like they had a ball. Kuma looks so big next to the others
  3. Some recent photos of my boy: (Nothing special, just hanging out at home with his big brother, Oscar)
  4. I wouldn't stress about it too much, Kyliegirl. My trainers were talking about LLW the other night and said that it's at the very top of the list of dog training points that people/dogs have trouble with. Do you take any food rewards when you go? For us, rewarding Kyojin actually makes him walk badly as he starts swaggering like he's some awesome cool dude if we praise him on a walk, and so then he'll forge ahead. But without praise, he's lovely - go figure! But I know a lot of dogs respond really well to getting food rewards on a walk. The thing my trainers said is to make sure you never let your dog drag you anywhere and so even if that means that sometimes you only get 5m down the road, then so be it as long as they didn't pull to get there. I'm sure that would be frustrating as hell, but as someone mentioned, KTB I think? that try not to let it stress you out as Echo will pick up on that. Not sure where abouts Niques lives, but maybe you, me, Niques and Sammie could all get together for a walking session soon and give each other some pointers??
  5. Kyojin loves to push the shower curtain back and try and lick the water off your legs while you're showering. And then again when you get out of the shower. And he loves to give lots of warm squishy face kisses
  6. Those activity centre type areas sound great, K&P. I'd be willing to pay a small amount to go to one. Not keen on unfenced areas.
  7. You can take dogs in to Bunnings. ;) If I'm popping to the local shop at night or early in the morning Justice loves coming for the ride, even though he has to wait in the car. He knows exactly where we're going when I say 'shops' and knows he doesn't get to leave the car but every time he'd still rather come with me than be left at home. I've always wondered that as I'd love to be able to take Kyojin with us when we go. Trying to find as many places as possible where he can come with us.
  8. That sounds great, K&P. I'd love to take Kyojin swimming, we haven't had the chance to do that yet. If they'd allow us, that would be a great place for all the dogs to play.
  9. Won't be able to make this one unfortunately. Can't have Kyojin's stitches getting wet, and he probably wouldn't really enjoy being on-lead around lots of other dogs and not being able to play with them. Hopefully we'll have this much interest for the next one!
  10. I'd never trust Kyojin off-lead either. Other than in a fairly small, completely confined dog park. But in an open space - definitely not. Akitas are known for having pretty crap recall. Well, more so that no matter how well trained you think they are, there will come a time when they find something better and they'll just run and run and run and run.... We've already seen this and boy is it not fun for us All the breeders I spoke to said they are never, ever to be let off-lead. It is a bit disappointing that we can't take Kyojin to the beach with some doggy friends, but at least we can take him to an enclosed area and know that there's only so far that he can run :p
  11. Yup, that's the one. The little dog section has always been PACKED when we've been there. The big dog section does seem to be a lot more under control, though it's always been really busy when we've been there. The little dogs bark a lot and seem to rile each other up. We've only been a handful of times though. I think a walk would probably be a great idea. Especially as Asti isn't very familiar with bigger dogs, and Kyojin isn't very familiar with little dogs - they could meet and get to know each other without it being too scary for them.
  12. Would love a walk sometime Sammie. Kyojin could do with meeting some more smaller dogs too, as when we take him to the dog park we like at Annerley, there's a big dog section and a little dog section, so he usually only gets to meet GR's, GSD's etc. He seems fascinated by the two SBT pups that visit next door every weekend. Beautiful photos of Asti!
  13. Oh wow really? where are you? I am in darra  We're at Acacia Ridge - pretty much just down the road from you then! KTB: I'm glad the service went smoothly and that so many people who loved your father were able to attend. I have only ever been to one funeral, my grandmothers, but I understand what you mean by it being comforting hearing stories you'd never heard before about someone. It's lovely to hear how someone important to you has touched the lives of others.
  14. WA, if for some reason Halo turns up in Qld, I do apologise for you never seeing her again
  15. Naww, lovely photo KA. I hadn't seen that one before. These men are such big softies when it comes to their doggies it seems - Kyojin was a lot smaller when these photos were taken. Not sure OH would be too keen for these cuddles anymore!
  16. Betsy: No new photos lately. Plan on taking some more of him tomorrow after we take him to the hydrobath - he's looking and smelling rank at the moment after all this rain/mud we've been having. He literally smells like pond scum Ravenau1: Kyojin doesn't really ask either actually. If he's in his crate, he'll whinge to be let out to pee. But if we're just chilling out at home, we normally try and get into the habit of taking him out at regular intervals. He'll never make any noise to go out, but as he sleeps 95% of the day, if he's up and about, it's usually because he wants to pee. We were going to try the bell trick, but we never got around to it. I'm still thinking about it as it would make things a lot easier. From what I understand, you just hang up a bell at the door and ring it every time you take her out to pee. Then start trying to get Astrid to ring the bell when you take her out. Eventually she'll start ringing it herself. You'll usually have a good idea whether she actually needs to go or whether she's just playing silly buggers by how long it's been since you took her out last. Niques: Glad James is back home safe with you Kyliegirl: Echo is gorgeous! What a handsome little boy.
  17. Urban Dog Training at Carindale. Not too far from Mt Gravatt. That's where I currently attend, and a fair few other DOLers go there as well. All of their classes are listed on their website below with prices and class times/availability etc. http://www.urbandogtraining.com.au/index.html
  18. If I come, I'd probably rather the beach. I'll just bring Kyojin on a long lead
  19. I'm pretty sure that's the really massive park there. If so, OH and I went there with his parents GR once. His parents go there with her all the time. The place is HUGE! Lots of shady spots scattered around and some tables and chairs etc. We might be interested, OH and I should both have that weekend off, but it's not too long after Kyojin's due to be desexed so it might be too early for him.
  20. Oh Lilli, that poor doggy! You can see how skinny her little legs are Ruby's looking beautiful; very shiny coat. Hope your first day goes well today, Clastic!
  21. Parrotpea, that photo is hilarious. What a great shot!
