  1. Shopping for puppy stuff is lots of fun. It's addictive though. Every time we take Kyojin to the hydrobath to wash him, we come home with at least 4-5 more things
  2. I don't think it's necessarily cruel either. I don't believe that all dogs like walks, or require walks. My parents two dogs don't get walked, but they seem to be very happy, and are a healthy weight etc. They have toys, and they also have each other for company.
  3. Beautiful photos and video, KTB. The boys look like they had a wonderful day. This rain here is starting to drive me insane. My yard is now a big muddy dam. Haven't been able to take Kyojin for a walk for probably about a month now, so I'm trying to look at dog raincoats online. Not to mention we can't get any of the yard stuff done that we want to, like putting pavers in around the front gate and Kyojin's kennel to stop that area from becoming so filthy when it rains, but we need the rain to stop so we can do that!
  4. I just saw an Akita on my way to my parents house this morning! I have never seen an Akita in the flesh before, other than my own boy. Really surprised since there are so few in Qld. He/she was absolutely gorgeous Too bad we were passing each other in the car so I didn't get a better look.
  5. Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you have all been having a wonderful day. Went over to the in-laws last night for our Christmas dinner with them. Had a wonderful time actually!! This morning my parents, and my brother (who is here for a few days from Melbourne) come over for an early lunch since OH had to leave for work at 12.30. We ate LOTS, watched a movie and played cards for a few hours. Now I'm trying to work out how to kill time for another 4.5 hours until OH gets home from work. Tomorrow is our main family get together with all the extended family, so there will be a lot more eating and celebrating tomorrow. Unfortunately OH starts work at 7am tomorrow, so he will miss all of it. Kyojin loved all the attention he got today. It seems my family are very smitten with him!
  6. My stupid boss decided that instead of closing early on Christmas eve like they normally do, we're all working until 6pm tonight This whole week has been nuts with customers, so I can only imagine how hectic today will be.
  7. I would definitely fly. I had Kyojin flown over from Canberra to Brisbane and it was the best decision we made. He didn't have too long of a wait before the flight, flight was about 2 hours, and as soon as we got to the transport place, he was ready to go. He was completely fine and happy, and there was no stress on us.
  8. Ooh, thanks for the hot tip. Between Kyoji and the two cats, our floors are a nightmare. We have to vacuum every two to three days!
  9. We walk Kyojin loose leash with just a plain collar and leash. He's 5 and a half months, and about 30 or so kilos. He doesn't pull, so I haven't given a harness much thought. I'm waiting for him to be fully grown so I can buy him a K9Pro leash and collar so that when he is much bigger and stronger, I have a tougher leash than the nylon ones I'm using currently.
  10. Holy cow at the pile of hair KA!! Especially considering he should be nearing the end of his coat blow. OH is baffled by how much hair comes off just on a normal brush of KJ, and I keep telling him that it's not even close to what a coat blow will be like. I'll show him that photo - I think he'll have a heart attack!! Love that Kuma's starting to love his crate, Kyojin's finally getting the hang of his too. He'll still play the occasional silly buggers at night when he knows it's bed time, and run to the farthest part of the house. But the other night, his tummy was a bit upset and so I had to let him out a few times during the night, and each time he ran away of me and straight back to his crate without being asked.
  11. Wizzle - Kyojin's stolen chocolate out of my handbag twice now!! Luckily both times he's only gotten about two bites worth. I really need to learn that NOTHING is safe from this dog. I think he's actually a beagle in disguise, as he can sniff out anything! KA - Hoping poor Kuma's toe gets better quickly. Is he walking funny on it??? We had the BEST training session last night. It was just such a fun class, I'm actually really disappointed that we're on two weeks break now! Kyojin really loved all the recall exercises we did. He responds so well to almost everything we do in class, which makes it really fun. We had to do loads of running last night, so by the time we got home, Kyojin, OH and I were all knackered.
  12. Oh no, I was hoping to hear his leg was fine now. Poor bubba. Hope he's better soon. Please give him a big squishy hug from Kyojin and I
  13. The post was deleted very quickly but it was this one. I think it's just that labradors have become the 'personification' of the friendly, bouncy dog and on DOL, some regard Friendly as Rude. Every time I see one of those threads ('just being friendly', I know where it's going to end up Thank you I was very frightened when we were driving in but am relieved that Papa Koala is still around. Whoooaaa. I can't get involved in those threads either. It just baffles me how many people say they will kick someone elses dog just for running up to them in an off leash area. Without seeing whether the dog is trying to play, or whether it actually is being aggressive.
  14. Wow, I'm not sure how I had missed that thread KTB!
  15. Thanks, he seemed to be fine right afterward and hasn't been sick since. We've already seen 9 cane toads at our place this summer!! I never realised we got so many until we got Kyojin, so now of course I'm paranoid about them. We make sure he's always inside with us once it's dark. If we have to go out at night, poor thing has to get crated. I'm just way too afraid that he'd try and play with/eat one. We always leave his pool empty, and OH regularly rakes up any leaf litter etc. The only other thing we have seen suggested to deter cane toads is to dig mesh around the perimeter of your house. You need to have something like 40cm above and below ground level so that they can't jump or burrow into your yard. We haven't wanted to do that though. Naww, that photo of Astrid is lovely!!
  16. He's pretty good. So far he's loved every single other dog he's ever met. He has been dominated a few times and shoved around (by huskies and malamutes mostly, they play rough) and he just gets back up and runs around with a big silly grin on his face. Speaking of rain, I would normally love it, if my dog wasn't such a pansy that he refuses to pee in the rain. And unfortunately, none of our outside is undercover so it makes it hard to take him out quickly without us both getting soaked!
  17. Kyojin's had a pretty good weekend so far - he came with us to a friends house for dinner on Friday night and got to play with their two Weimaraner's all night, and then last night he came with us to the in-laws for dinner and a play date with their GR. We were meant to have puppy play group today, but they have cancelled it due to another storm forecast. We probably wouldn't have ended up going as Kyojin woke us this morning gagging in his crate. He only spit up a tiny bit, but I have no idea why he has an upset tummy. He seems to be behaving as normal though.
  18. Naww, love the photos everyone!! KTB, your boys make very cute elves. I really need to try again to get a Christmas shot of Kyojin. I wanted to make a postcard to send to his breeder for Christmas.
  19. I sure do Hopefully if we spread the word someone will know where he is!
  20. My dog trainers saw me post it on my facebook, and they have also reposted it to get the word out.
  21. Just got home from work so I have posted this on my facebook page. Really hope you find her soon! Fingers crossed the "Found" person has her!!
  22. I have a lot of northside friends, so I'll post this on my facebook status when I get home from work if you haven't heard anything.
  23. Um I'll just find out the name, it's literally around the corner from me. It's very basic, just a yard for the dogs to play in. But I thought it might be good so that we don't have to worry about randoms and their dogs. It's on Marnham Street, Acacia Ridge.
