Mine works out to be a little more expensive than that, but I'm pretty happy with it. $280 a year. I could probably get it cheaper if I could afford to buy 12 months in one go, rather than 2 x 6 months dosage.

We use Advantix plus Sentinel Spectrum. I've only ever heard good things about SS Dju

My in laws GR when we minded her for a few days. She went swimming in Kyojin's new pool and then decided to roll around in the dirt afterward.

I tried my first LLW with Kyojin the other day. He walked really well, considering OH's normally the one holding the leash. I can't have it completely hanging though, need to lift it just the slightest with my left hand (still slack, just lifted) otherwise it hangs right in front of my knee which drives me insane.

Won't be able to make this next meet either as it is my sister's baby shower. The following one is due for the 2nd January. Should we change this to the 9th??? Not sure how many will turn up the day after New Years? Only just noticed that GG had written all the dates down for next year. I shall put them into my new diary so I have some idea with my work shifts as to which ones I'll be able to make.

Hmm, wondering if I will finally get to see some Akitas at a show!

A Rottweiler. I grew up with them, and they are just the most beautiful dogs. Very well natured, loyal, easy care coat, like exercise but aren't hyperactive, love being around people but can also be by themselves during the day, and ours have always taken to training really well. Great recall.

I love my dog, but Kyojin, why must you insist on pooping on my rug when I'm running out the door for work?! (Twice now!)

Oh that has made me so sad too I think the worst day of my life was when my Rottweiler, Chelsea, died. She had cancer and had been sick for a while. I wrote a letter to my friend at some point saying that I think Chelsea was getting better and that all I wanted was for my best friend to get better. I never got around to giving it to her though. Not sure when, but at some stage I went on grade 8 camp and forgot to say goodbye to Chelsea. She got really sick while I was away and there was nothing more that could be done, so my parents had her put to sleep. They picked me up from camp and the first thing I asked was how Chelsea was, so they told me what had happened. I remember walking through all the other kids to our car absolutely sobbing because I didn't get to say goodbye. I stuck the letter I wrote to my friend in the back of a photo of Chelsea and I and I'm pretty sure I would still have it at my parents house somewhere. Since then I'd never felt close to any family dogs we got. Now that I have Kyojin though and he is my own dog, I feel really close to him already.

All beautiful dogs!!! to the forum!

Exactly what Kavik said. Some people might sa "Yes" as an alternative marker to clicking. You would either say Yes, or click and then follow up with the reward, praise etc. Saying 'Good boy' takes longer than saying 'Yes' or clicking, so these can be more helpful as you want to mark the behaviour the very moment it is done.

Perfectly fine to take treats to the park imo.

Awesome, thank you so much!!!! :D He's about 20 weeks now I think. He knows drop (he thinks it is the most fun thing to do, ever!) and stay/wait. I was just going to start teaching him 'roll over' too, so I will practice that one with him first. I bought him a clicker today, which he was going well with until he decided it was all just a little too exciting, and thought he might nom on my toes. We got introduced to loose leash walking at puppy class on Wednesday night, and then OH took him for his first test LLW yesterday (and recorded the whole thing on his phone because he is a very proud dad!). So naturally Kyojin now has a youtube channel. He's grown so much already in the month that we've had him!! (Kyojin)

Hey KTB, I think from memory you once posted a video of Elbie learning to play dead??? Any suggestions (or from anyone else) on how I might teach Kyojin this trick?
-
I don't have aircon, but I do give Kyojin is own fan to keep him cool. And ice blocks, a pool etc.
-
As well as what Toujour said, I think it was Whisked Away??? who posted this person's channel just before. She has lots of great videos showing you how to teach your dog certain things, but this should give you some idea of how you could introduce Hugo to nail clipping. http://www.youtube.com/user/kikopup?featur.../21/LHgBvnQ71ss

A few from me

Speaking of blowing coats, when we took Kyojin to the Husky/Malamute dog meet on Sunday (Yes, he was the odd one out!), a few of them were blowing their coats. So they had taken them out for a good brush in the park. I have never seen so much hair in my entire life. :D :D I'm a bit scared about Kyojin's first blow now!

Just use something to block off the extra space for the time being - a box, an esky etc.
-
I use the kibble recommended to me by my breeder - Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy. He also gets veges, rice, yoghurt, eggs, meat/bones etc as well. (Not all at once! )

Gorgeous!! I bet you must be really excited about having him come home. Not too long to go

Have had a wonderful weekend. Took Kyojin on his first actual walk yesterday, and another one again this morning. We just came back from the dog park where we met up with another DOLers two Malamutes. Every Sunday arvo a big group of Huskies and Mals meet there. I think he really loved having a good run with other dogs of his own kind. Poor little thing's exhausted now though!
-
We weighed him about 2 weeks ago and he was 17kgs then. They put on quite a bit each week, and he is certainly WAY heavier. I'd say he's gone past 20kgs now. I tried to pick him up last night and it was pretty difficult!! Thanks I do love that one, even if it was taken on my crappy phone. His face is so sweet in that one. He doesn't really make any noise actually. He is already protective of his yard though, and just started barking at our neighbours for mowing too close to our yard. But other than that, he doesn't really make any noise. He has such a deep, manly bark though!

Nope, I tried ages ago to make a sig with pics of my cats (before I got Kyojin) and I couldn't for the life of me get it right. WhiskedAway made it for me :D

Just wanted to come in and show off my new signature :D
