  1. I highly recommend Dogtainers. They were so fantastic for me flying my pup from Canberra to Brisbane. (And my breeder works for them) http://www.dogtainers.com.au/?s=4-faqs&id=19 Before finding out that that is what my breeder does for a living, I had already gotten a number of quotes and decided that Dogtainers were by far the best. I was originally looking at flights from Sydney to Brisbane, and I had a couple of waaaayy out there quotes for around $490! Dogtainers quoted me about $150 (I can't remember exactly).
  2. I wish Kyojin liked toys. At the moment he thinks it's hilarious to try and steal clothes and run away with them! And of course he looks back at us with his big silly grin on his face whilst doing so.
  3. Have always had Rotties and Bearded Collies. Never been a fan of our Beardies too much to be honest, as they are far too perky and hairy for my liking. They are my mums heart breed. I have always loved the Rotties, though it has never been the same for me since my girl died about 9 years ago. I just haven't loved any Rotty as much as her, so I knew I couldn't get another one just yet. I have only had my Akita boy since Tuesday, but already I love him to bits. I love how he constantly looks up at me for approval, and how calm he is, even for a puppy. He loves trotting around the house after us, but spends most of the day sleeping. He's very responsive as well. Though when he wants to be stubborn and cheeky, he will be. Like when it's bedtime he gets half way up to his crate, then races in the other direction looking back at me with a huge grin on his face. Little bugger
  4. Because Kyojin's only a little pup at the moment and we've only had him since Tuesday, he's fully inside at the moment. We need to block off under the house and finish building his kennel before he can go outside for too long. He'll eventually be outside when we're out, but when we're home I'd much rather have him inside spending time with us.
  5. I think I should be alright to come even if OH can't come with me. Took puppy to the dog park this afternoon for his first meeting of other dogs, other than the in laws GR. He seemed to love every single other dog there, big or small.

    Akita

I was going to use Goodomen Akitas in NSW for a puppy due to be born next month sometime. However, I got lucky a little early and got my new puppy on Tuesday. Check them out, they are a registered breeder and are expecting an amazing litter from two UK imported show champions.
  8. Haha thanks, OH and I are mighty proud of our big boofa. We got his ipod from the RSPCA World for pets store at Springwood.
  9. I struggle to carry him!! I think I'll only be able to lift him for another week or two I haven't weighed him yet, but our breeder says he is going to be a very big boy. I enrolled him into puppy school last night, so I can't wait to see the looks on the faces of the other people there when we rock up. I already know one of the other pups that will be there is an 8 week old BC who is currently smaller than our cats!
  10. Would Elbie and Hoover like another friend?? I now have Kyojin the 12 week old Akita pup aka Sir Pee-a-lot who's looking for some friends of his own
  11. Awww, I just want to give them all a big squishy cuddle!
  12. I think I'll be there. OH is at work until 3.30ish, so hopefully he'll come with me after. I should be right to bring my pup alone though.
  13. Thought I'd better update to say that instead of having to wait until January at the very earliest to *maybe* get my puppy, I got in contact with a breeder who had someone pull out on him so he had one boy left. So on Tuesday night I went to the airport and picked up the most gorgeous Akita puppy ever, 12 week old Kyojin. Here's a photo of my handsome little (huge) man
  14. I'm not sure if it went ahead because of all the rain. I think I can make the 7th - provided work is nice to me this roster, but it should be my turn to have that Sunday off. (Either way I finish work at 3, so if people are going to be there at that time, I'll come with my new puppy :D)
  15. Wow, that's just nuts HP!! Do people really think that dogs are that disposable that you would just go "Yea sure guys, here you go" and give away a family member on the spot?! I'm actually surprised at how much they were willing to pay for her though. (Of course she's worth a million bucks, but I would have thought that people with such dodgy intentions would just grab whatever they could get, for as cheap as they could get)
  16. :D I've always thought that Akira is hands down the most beautiful Sibe I've ever seen! Ditto Dju. I love Sibes, especially black markings. But she is definitely the most gorgeous Sibe I've seen
  17. Okay, so it appears I was first off the mark . I will have my puppy sometime in the next couple of months, though I did get a very promising email from a breeder this morning. Otherwise, it looks like OH's parents GR is coming to live with us for a bit. I voted Sunday afternoons as I work a lot of weekends, but on Sundays I finish at 3pm so I can meet even if it's a work day for me.
  18. Oh, I have been dying to watch that KA! So it's super sad? I just love the story behind it. I didn't realise Richard Gere was in it
  19. I've been searching since January, and I'm not a very patient person I will admit, so this has definitely been torture for me!! The breeder of the bitch described him to me as "Fox red with black trim". All the Akita breed standard sites basically say that all colours are acceptable, which isn't very helpful I did find one site that had a zillion colour combinations described, so looking at that I think the closest would probably be: Red, Black Overlay: Red coat with black tips and/or guard hairs. ;) Oh that would be so funny! Our boys could share a birthday then
  20. Pups are due to be born roughly November 11th - so the suspense is killing me at the moment! Apparently it's the first ever mating of this colour combination (or something like that) so it's a very exciting litter for them. He's such a strikingly handsome boy!!
  21. Ask and ye shall recieve: clicky clicky He's from Daykeyne and his littermates are: * Carefactor Zero (Marshall - dog) * Hands off the Booty (Oshii - bitch) * The Pleasure is Yours (Drama - bitch) check out Marshall, he's a biggun. Oooh the feature profile at the top of the link, Overhills swift of fut is the littermate of the dad of my potential pup http://dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=31617 aaand this is the bitch: http://dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=38801 On the waiting list, and this is definitely my favourite breeding so far. So I have my fingers and toes crossed! Kuma's siblings are gorgeous I don't think I could ever tire of looking at Akita photos!
  22. Oh man, well there you go! Lucky you didn't like the look of them then! To me though, I can't tell the difference between any Akitas on the litter pages Probably the same for you and Vallhunds though. Oh, no Dju these ones really are a bit sad looking to be honest. Definitely nothing like any of the Akitas I'm after! I was too quick to jump onto my email before checking out her website first . Though you're right, Vallhunds look the same to me (All gorgeous though!!)
  23. Poor protection from the elements, and as others have said, the metal gets really hot as well. No or insufficient access to water. Usually poorly restrained, but even dogs that are properly tethered aren't going to be well protected at all if you should have an accident. I also don't like that they are not being protected from strangers, and that strangers are not being protected from them. In my personal opinion, dogs in cars should either be in crates, or restrained by a seatbelt/harness so that they aren't free to move around.
