  1. I don't think there are any in Australia? Can I ask why this breed interests you??
  2. I think they said 7-10 working days for shipping?? Or something like that. So hopefully yours will be here really soon! They probably weren't prepared for the huge influx of orders from DOLers
  3. Oh and Michelle, you might find these two threads helpful: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=170329 http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...amp;hl=labrador The first one is Breed Information about Labs and the second thread is where all the lab owners gather to talk about the breed, so you'll find lots of useful information in there
  4. Hi Michelle Welcome to DOL!! Yellow Labs are gorgeous and a very lovely breed. Not everyone thinks that kids that young should be around dogs, but I have always had dogs since the day I was born, and I believe I was only 2 when we got a new puppy. The main thing is that you need to provide constant supervision at all times - a puppy or dog should NEVER be left alone with kids, ever. It really only takes a second for an accident/injury to happen. I think only you can really tell if you have the time and patience to commit to a new puppy with 3 kids. Or you could perhaps consider an older dog that might be more calm???
  5. My cats love it when I have baths. They're obsessed with anything to do with water, but when I have a bath they both love to run laps around the edge. Even though they've both slipped and fallen in several times before, they keep coming back for more. And Oscar waits every single day for us to get out of the bath/shower so he can lick the water off our ankles.
  6. Exactly. I don't think most people even know that decent breeders exist! I think a lot of people aren't aware that puppies exist outside of pet stores. And the convenience probably does motivate a lot of people. Why potentially wait a few months for a puppy when you can go and pick one up today from the shop down the road?!
  7. Oh too cute, I just want to squeeze him!
  8. I haven't actually heard of this before, sounds interesting. Can I ask, what reason do you do this for???
  9. Awww! Dear old thing looks so content. But what's that big hairy thing to the left?? Wrong person
  10. Sooo I think I over estimated the size of my future Akita. I think I could fit about 3 Akitas quite happily in my crate. Just set it up to make sure it wasn't faulty or anything. Grabbed the closest cat and tested it out on him. He was very intrigued by it, but probably loved the box it came in more; as soon as I took the crate out he slithered straight into the box to check it out.
  11. Thanks for the update Ishy. Love hearing peoples puppy stories! She's such a gorgeous little thing. Oooh Tollersowned, not long to go for you at all!! She's a little cutie and her dad is very impressive looking. How exciting!!
  12. Wow, so impressed with how prompt the delivery is. Ordered this one on Friday and it came today: http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/XXXL-Me...83cm-p14746.htm (decided to buy one of their insanely cheap wire crates instead). Haven't opened the box yet as I've only just gotten home from work. I bought it a bit preemptively as I don't have my dog yet, but I'll open it tomorrow to make sure it's fine etc.
  13. I always did as a kid. I was told that it helped to heal your wounds - and yes, they did noticeably heal a lot quicker. I'm not sure I would still have a problem with it now really. Maybe I'm just waaaaay too comfortable with my pets
  14. Whoa.. that looks like it WAS the whole punnet!
  15. This is about my cat instead. When we first got Mika she was really cuddly and affectionate with the OH and I for the first couple of months. She was shy around everyone else though. Then she suddenly changed and became pretty anti-social even with us. Instead of sleeping with us on our bed every night (on my throat ) she started sleeping out on the couch. Didn't want to be picked up for cuddles etc. Then several months later we decided to get a second cat to give her a playmate, and hopefully so that we might get one affectionate cat. We bought home Oscar and from the second he got in the door, he has never left us alone. He has to be in the same room as us, if not all over us at every second of the day. In fact, he still cries today if we leave the room and he thinks he's lost us. Since bringing Oscar home, Mika has really come out of her shell. She's quite social with visitors now. Normally she would hide in a cupboard until they're gone, but now she's happy to come and say hello. She absolutely adores cuddles and pats now and climbs all over us. I think she saw how much attention and affection Oscar was getting and decided that cuddles really are pretty awesome. So, definitely a good change. As for dogs, hmm I've always grown up having two dogs at a time. I can't really remember "changes" when the second dog was brought home, but I know that our dogs have always been best of friends from the beginning and gotten along like a house on fire. Never have we had our dogs fight. ETA: I don't think there have been any individual changes in personality either.
  16. I don't think I will take any time off (well maybe two or so days depending on what mine and OH's schedule is at the time) but with his shift work, and the fact that I will be finished with uni for the year by the time we get the pup, and I only work casually, it should be fine. We'll see though. OH might be able to take a couple of days off too. By the time we get a puppy (if we are lucky enough to get one out of this litter) it will be the end of November/Early December. Which should be fantastic timing for us. Next year is a bit harder to predict. I have a month of field experience in May, and then we are getting married the end of May and then having a honeymoon etc, so if we don't get a puppy by the end of this year, we will have to wait until after our honeymoon. Not to mention, there are only 2 registered breeders in QLD, so it could be quite hard for us to get a puppy at a suitable time. Fingers crossed we will get a puppy out of the November litter while I will be at home a lot so that I can give the puppy lots of attention and training etc.
  17. Sooo exciting!!! You must seriously flood us with pics! Eeek, 5am. I'm sure it'll be worth it though, and you probably won't sleep anyway
  18. I originally took our cats to the Greencross Vets at Moorooka as that is where OH's parents always took their dog (and I moved over this way from the Northside). But I decided it really wasn't the most suitable place for me, so I asked around on here and had it recommended to me that I go to the Acacia Ridge Vet Surgery. I have only been once, but I was seriously impressed by the place. Really lovely, friendly environment. Vet and front counter staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They even offered me a drink while I was waiting for them to get my registration form sorted, and then when I was waiting to pay etc (Even though I had to wait only like 3 minutes). Vet was extremely thorough, and checked things that our old vets had never checked. Price was really great too. They didn't push me to get anything unnecessary done either.
  19. It completely blows my mind that she can just pick them up and toss them into the river and be so cool and collected about it. It's like she's just tossing some pebbles in. She even cheers herself on at one stage which is just atrocious. Whoever is filming her is just as bad though and I really hope they get caught too. I wonder where she got the puppies from?? This sort of stuff just really baffles me. Puppies are such beautiful little creatures, how anyone can not love them is beyond me.
  20. I definitely feel the same way. We have always tried to space our pets out a little bit so that we don't have to endure losing two pets so close together. A friend of mine's mother has just had one dog PTS due to really old age, she has one other dog that is very, very old and doesn't seem to have much life left in her, and two 16+ cats, one who is blind. I feel really awful for her kids as they are likely to have to deal with the death of several of their family pets within a short time frame
  21. Has anyone bought one of the metal ones from there? I was going to buy a 4XL one for $78 (including postage) for my future puppy but I'm thinking I'd be better off buying the 3XL wire one for $120 (including postage) since I want a full size one, but that I can use from when I bring my puppy home. So a soft crate probably wouldn't be very practical. $120 is still about $80 cheaper than any of the wire ones I have seen in store around here.
  22. Have heard amazing things about Urban Dog Training and so that is who I will be using when I get my puppy
  23. Teehee love how her ears still have a lean to them! She's just gorgeous. So fluffy!!
  24. Knees? We don't need our knees :D Riddick is currently learning, that "BRAKES!" Means you should actually stop before you get to me when recalled, rather than bouncing at the last minute to rebound of my legs as a way of stopping I wish my parents rotty knew what brakes are!! She's the biggest boofhead, and unfortunately right at my knee height which = instead collapsing of legs when she knocks into me
  25. Sigh. I hope they receive proper consequences for their actions. What possesses teenagers to act in such horrible, violent ways is beyond me.
