  1. Brilliant!! I have written proof from another breeder also that confirmed my suspiscions on this breeder too, so that should back me up, along with my report of all other info the breeder gave me.. I am VERY blessed now, I have located an extremely reputable breeder and have a pup secured that I know is perfect and proper papers etc... Seriously, when I contacted the breeder who supplied this alleged "backyard" breeder - the breeder of the original sire & dam told me this person IS a backyarder!! how scary... I have been so upset about this .... I am writing now - with all info I know - this person HAS to be stopped!! Piiiictures of le puppy? :D You know it's compulsory here.
  2. Are they selling them here? You can talk to Troy to get their listing removed, if you have proof I guess.
  3. Want a lift Dju? I'm going for a bit of a road trip tomorrow. I only have demands for constant pee/McCafe breaks. Oh yeah, and bump, bump, Bump, BUMP as Sandgrubber would say. That's a realy kind offer .. strange person on DOL whom I've never talked to. No just kidding, I don't have time for a roadtrip either way, I can't make it a whole day's outing because there's only one week of uni left and all four assignments are due in seven days or less Can't afford to skip a day, even if it is for a rally that will be covered in my "merchandise"!
  4. Hopefully the people are just silently watching and planning to go anyways The turnout looks pretty good from what I can see of the numbers on the facebook page. I only wish wish wish this was in Brisbane because I would surely be going along to join in on the protests!
  5. Woo, my logo. Okay I'm disappearing back into anonymity now..
  6. Nicely said that he's a likeable person who seems to be taking criticisms without going ballistic. And he makes a fair comment in his FB reply that his interest is to avoid dogs getting into homes where there's not a match. But his comments do seem to imply that breed label is all explanatory....& if you avoid the ones he's listed....well, things will go well. The evidence , tho', continues to be how dogs are bred and raised links with how they'll tend to respond to humans & the world around them. And that applies to all dogs. That's most certainly true, it can apply to any breed as well, no matter how random (usually working breeds seem to be targeted the most though). It seems like only yesterday I was getting criticised by the puppy preschool I went to and told that I shouldn't have picked such a high-drive dog (a Swedish Vallhund ) and his excited barking at other dogs was a sure sign that he was going to turn into an unmanageable wreck by the time he turns two.. "if you even have him for that long". Dun dun dun.
  7. I'm finding it hard to dislike this guy, he sounds so oblivious and nice at the same time regarding comments on his Facebook page, even some that were meant to be very critical of him. I kinda admire people who can remain so perky and chilled when people are criticising them, without resorting to being childish or acting supremely offended. He's a numpty, but a likeable numpty! Of course it's a bad thing if someone is taking his advice and drafting a law with that as the basis, but I'm sort of in agreement with Corvus here.. some very difficult breeds that it's best the general public be wary of purchasing willy nilly anyways. Meh, I'm not really that interested in the article itself anyways to be honest, I just thought the Facebook comments were pretty interesting. He said he's going to take down the article, mission accomplished guys
  8. Head tilting here too I shouldn't have done that, he was sleeping!
  9. Oh no I didn't mean to sound snobby or anything No I mean like.. Labs are as common as daisies, they have huge litters, there are a lot of them in supply, so the price doesn't make sense to be extremely high.. I agree they are common as daisies and all the above, except you are forgetting one thing - their popularity. As long as there is a demand for such a popular breed, the prices are going to rise. Fair point If you're just looking at a pet though, there's no reason why they can't look at less expensive Labs (so long as the health tests done are similar etc). $800 sounds like a bargain for something soooo cute. :D

  11. I don't breed, but from what I can see, it depends from breeder to breeder. Some match for temperaments, others are first come first serve.. My breeder was supposed to match for temperament but I did some.. er.. gentle persuading (read: annoying whinging) for my preference for colour, and I ended up with the exact one that I wanted. Of course next time I get a puppy, I'm definitely not going to be swayed by colour (and PMS/emotions) like the first time around, I'm just going to go with the flow and get what's given to me Breeders probably know best.
  12. $1500 is a LOT.. I have what's usually considered a "rare" breed and the most I've heard a breeder asking is $1200.. The first listing of Labradors has puppies for sale at $800/pet $1000/show..? The next one that displays price is $1200, the next one is $900, the next $1000, the next $1200, the next $1000, the next is $1500, the next is $950.. (This is not from me actually looking into the ones that don't display the price, just from what I'm gathering from the surface) From what I can see from a glance, $1500 is the high end of the range, not the average. Looks like around $1000 is more the average. Of course that being said, I wanted Hugo not because of the price but because I liked how the parents looked and they both checked in good with hip scores and PRA certs.
  13. We found that Hugo was pretty protective of our chickens actually--there was a scrub turkey that continually kept on harassing the chickens and causing a fuss in our fenced off area to get to their food.. Hugo crawled under the fence and somehow managed to herd the turkey into the enclosure where it was harder to escape, caught it, and ripped all its tailfeathers out! Fair enough I hated that turkey for attacking our chooks but I kind of felt sorry for it and quickly yelled at Hugo to stop when I saw what he was doing. You're right though, after an encounter with a dog, they should seldom come back! This one hopped the fence and we never saw it again.
  14. Sometimes overseas has the best prices: http://www.arcatapet.com/sresult.cfm?PageReq=1&ML=100&searchtext=tuffy I found quite a few cheaper than the ones in the marketplace as well (including shipping, unless of course you want to buy more than one).
  15. Hugo pokes everything he shouldn't with his nose. He's just like his cousin Erik in this regard, I hear. Door is open, he pokes it shut. Bin is full of lightweight rubbish, he'll jab it just enough to knock it over. Don't want to pat him, he'll stand there nosebutting your hand.
  16. I buy Comfortis from http://www.petproductsontheweb.com.au/, it's 25c cheaper than the eBay site Mim posted edit: For the blue packet.
  17. No worries guys, happy to lend a hand Woo for CommunityK9!
  18. Sorry, but what research do you have to back up that statement?
  19. On the positive side, neutering male dogs • eliminates the small risk (probably <1%) of dying from testicular cancer • reduces the risk of non-cancerous prostate disorders • reduces the risk of perianal fistulas • may possibly reduce the risk of diabetes (data inconclusive) On the negative side, neutering male dogs • if done before 1 year of age, significantly increases the risk of osteosarcoma (bone cancer); this is a common cancer in medium/large and larger breeds with a poor prognosis. • increases the risk of cardiac hemangiosarcoma by a factor of 1.6 • triples the risk of hypothyroidism • increases the risk of progressive geriatric cognitive impairment • triples the risk of obesity, a common health problem in dogs with many associated health problems • quadruples the small risk (<0.6%) of prostate cancer • doubles the small risk (<1%) of urinary tract cancers • increases the risk of orthopedic disorders • increases the risk of adverse reactions to vaccinations This is the advantage.
  20. Hugo would eat Nutro alright but when I presented him with Black Hawk over Nutro, it was like.. "Nutro? What's Nutro? Give me more of the drugs you're keeping for yourself, please!" It's like Black Hawk is loaded with a dog version of crack. He went berserk over it.
  21. Not much info in that thread, just bickering
  22. I was just wondering, is a vasectomy different from desexing? From what I know, there are a lot of disadvantages to desexing male dogs and I was wondering whether getting Hugo a vasectomy would negate those disadvantages?
