  1. Please take the dog to the vet before his ear becomes worse than it already is. A week is a long time to put up with an infected ear. Some dogs are very stoic and don't show pain. The vet will take a swab and identify the problem and you'll be given appopriate medication. I certainly wouldn't be putting anything in his ears without a diagnosis, you could do a lot of damage.
  2. Yes Sophie will be home on Monday night but we're not at all sure all is well. There's a possibility of malignancy. She's having a biopsy and we await the findings from pathology. She had a biopsy 9 weeks ago but pathology came back with an inconclusive finding. She did look to be improving but the situation has flared up again. I'm hijacking your thread here. Please keep us posted on Molly's progress.
  3. Good news Chuckie. It seems she's almost back to normal. Don't we lose our appetites when our dogs are sick? Sleeping doesn't come easy either. My Rottweiler Sophie, is going in for yet another surgery on Monday and I am not in the least interested in food. I'll be opting out of Christmas dinner because Sophie will be in some pain and I want to be with her. I was going to have the family dinner here but have decided that I'll do the cooking and my son can collect the food from me and take it to his place and the rest of the family will gather there. There are too many people and too much noise and Sophie can do without the stress.
  4. Coco, what is his diet? My dogs are fed a BARF diet for their main meal. Sometimes they have Eagle Pack dry food for breakfast. Recently I fed another brand of dry food because I was given a packet of a top quality dry food of a different brand One of my Cavaliers started scratching and he's never done it before. None of the other dogs were scratching at all so I suspect it's the different dry food that doesn't agree with this dog. I put him back on EaglePack two days ago and he's rarely scratching at all now.
  5. Agree that assuming fleas are the problem is probably the way to go considering the pup isn't on flea prevention. I use Sentinel Spectrum. I don't know if Interceptor Spectrum covers tapeworm. No paralysis tics in Melbourne Not a silly question at all You will probably see flea dirt if Obi has fleas. Look for tiny black specks if you don't see any fleas. Have a look on Obi's lower back at the base of the tail. Fleas usually infest that area and have a look on his tummy for fleas or flea dirt. Check your packet of Interceptor Spectrum to make sure it covers tapeworm because fleas are host for tapeworm. I prefer Sentinel Spectrum to Inceptor because it stops fleas from breeding so your house won't have a thriving flea colony. None of my dogs have ever had fleas or worms on Sentinel. It does all worms including heartworm and tapeworm. As Poodle Wrangler mentioned...Pricelesspets sells these products much cheaper than vets or pet shops.
  6. Wishing you a Merry Christmas too Tony and all the best to you for 2008. Yes you do post thought provoking subjects We may not always agree but I always enjoy your posts.
  7. Why do they need to open him up to see what it is? They can do a fine needle aspirate and take some cells for analysis. I have all lumps aspirated on my dogs.
  8. That's good news indeed. She'll probably be back to normal for you tomorrow. They opened Dana up and saw that section of the bowel was discoloured and necrosis was setting in. She had an obstruction caused by three loquat stones. Both the vet and I thought we could feel something in there but the xray didn't actually give us much information.
  9. Does your dog vomit very often or is this unusual for her? If I had waited and withheld food for 24-48 hours from Dana she'd have been dead. She's not a dog who vomits but she did vomit her breakfast that morning and I noticed she couldn't get comfortable when lying down. This was not usual behaviour for her. We went to the vet a couple of hours later. She was in good spirits and happily playing with the nurses in the waiting room. She needed emergency surgery and had 15cm of dying bowel resected. She's a Cavalier so she's a small dog. I wouldn't take the risk if I were you, I'd take her to the vet.
  10. See Tony, you are doing it again. Flaming and doing a two bit psychoanalysis of people. Why do you feel the need to do this so frequently? You made this thread about people, not about dogs. If you are going to label people then you would surely know you will offend. Most people strongly object to being called do gooders or any other derogatory names by someone who hasn't a clue who they are or what they stand for. I agree that some people post attention seeking posts and to be quite truthful I think that's exactly what you have done in this thread. You surely must have had some insight that people would object because you've made some very offensive comments about people here. Perhaps you might put a little thought into what you post before you hit reply. YOU have made this thread about YOU. What do we make of that? Maybe some introspection is required. As for rescue dogs being abused. Some are, some are not. With my rescue girl whatever happened to her before she came to me has never been a subject for discussion. It simply IS. What IS now is what I concern myself with. She is not referred to as an abused dog because I don't know her history.
  11. Sorry, I'm not Cavandra, she doesn't seem to have been back online so I'll answer the question. I use both Ester C and Joint Guard on my big dogs with no problems at all. Have been using both products together for at least a year.
  12. I agree. Please take the dog to the vet and have these warty things checked out. I run my hands over my dogs every night just to make sure there is nothing there that wasn't there yesterday. Anything new that I can't identify and the dogs go to the vet.
  13. http://www.dogsinmotion.com.au They have a good range of life jackets. They are in Doveton.
  14. Excellent news No wonder most of our friends think I'm rather eccentric. I was consumed with anxiety about my dog after she had the surgery and all I thought about was dog poop. I have two large and two small breeds and I was outside 'reading' dog poop to figure out which small dog did what. The worst part of it is that I admit I can tell which one did what You'll be able to sleep peacefully tonight knowing all is well doggywoof.
  15. I didn't explain myself properly . What I meant was when your dog is lying down resting does she stay in the one spot or does she keep moving to another spot or moving around as though she can't get comfortable. That was the clue that alerted me that my girl had a problem. She was not bloated at all and didn't even feel hard in the abdomen.
  16. One of the signs that alerted me to the problem was that my dog would lay down in a spot and stay for only a minute and move to another spot. I could see she was uncomfortable and had no idea why. I didn't even think of an obstruction...I just knew she was acting strangely. Keep an eye on your dog and see if he's moving around instead of lying still in one spot. Hope it all turns out ok for you and that you find a massive poop to pick up in the morning
  17. If she hasn't pooped by tomorrow morning I would be taking her to the vet. My dog had a blockage 12 months ago from eating loquat stones. It resulted in her needing a bowel resection. A very expensive exercise and a very sick dog.
  18. Some folk will try to turn posts into a cheap shot psychoanalysis of people they have never met and know nothing at all about. Tony, I usually find common sense in your posts but it's damned arrogant to accuse people who dare to disagree with you as having undealt with baggage. That's taking a personal shot at people who perhaps think you might have a load of undealt with baggage yourself which may explain why you seem to feel the need to do this at times. This is a discussion forum. Not everyone must agree with you. Different points of view are what makes this forum a good forum. That's why we're here, we learn all the time. I doubt anyone here claims to know everything about dogs. My rescue dog was standing behind me, I didn't know she was there and when I turned around my hand accidentally clipped her lightly on the side of her head. She dropped to the ground immediately with her face on the floor. The fact that her incisors are worn to the gum line and canines less than half the length they should be and that she was skin and bone when she came here certainly indicates she was not well cared for. I don't know if she was abused previously but she isn't abused here and is now a confident and much loved dog. She's happy, contented and well adjusted. Whatever history she has is behind her is no longer part of her life.
  19. Tell us how much experience you have had with dogs and with crate training. Tell us why crate training is cruel and why you are advising against it. Perhaps you can list the negatives for us. The doors of my crates are always left open and my two small dogs choose to go in their crates of their own accord at times, during the day. They don't sleep in them at night, they sleep on my bed.
  20. Nope. Not with a squirming baby puppy.
  21. If it's been like that for a week I would be taking him to the vet today.
  22. My Cavalier was given Rilexine 14 months ago by injection. Unfortunately she had a reaction to it. It caused a quite a large fluid filled lump over her shoulders and she needed drainage tubes. The vet said they hadn't seen other dogs who were given Rilexine shots have this reaction.
