  1. Nothing Australian in the dogs but they were used to work Australian sheep, we exported many merinos to US in late 19th, early 20th centuries...............dogs are from Europe, Basque shepherds went to US amongst other nationalities.....knowledgeable Aussie person says they can see Koolie traits in Aussies working, makes sense, Koolies came from Europe too...idea of breeds as such is pretty recent, dogs just came in "types" depending on their jobs in life, and their names usually derived from their locality or their job
  2. Where there is a will there is a way and I reckon he will climb 1.2 m as easily as a lower height.......................our last, similar in size, could scale 1.2m plywood at 9 weeks and then just fall down the other side, we gave her more freedom rather than end up with a broken leg, but she always had someone her.........think you need a cage if you are going to be away during the day
  3. You might be better off importing semen from a proven, tested adult which has had success showing overseas.............breeders rarely export their really top stuff and why settle for less?
  4. Breeders of ANKC registered dogs are not meant to breed for the pet market, they breed for the betterment of the breed, as explained, this is where good quality pets come from....not from puppy farmers
  5. I have three generations of bitches here, all had typical messy first seasons and subsequently lost less and less each season, until swabbing showed nothing, swelling was normal........thank goodness we always have a boy here as well because he tells me now, but you have to watch as usually girls are well in when he starts taking notice and prog's then do the rest, but not much time frame!! Both older girls have had litters, never missed Girls are heavily coated so not bits as obvious as with smooth coats Repro vets tell me many bitches are like this, apparently they don't read the text books LOL
  6. Both police and the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council are investigating the matter. --Lhok I understood it was a condition that there be no unrestrained dogs around when a health worker, etc came to a house? Was the case when my father had carers calling anyway
  7. All ANKC stationery has been standard for a couple of years or more now.....and it is Main reg not Mains, that's for menus LOL
  8. She has learnt from past experience that there is a consequence, watch carefully, she may show subtle similar signs whenever you walk in the door, you may just not be noticing, perhaps you have the doormat look whenever she has been left alone indoors? ...no, she only shows the door mat look when she played with it; she is normally very exited when she sees one of the family no matter whether she was by herself for 5 minutes or for an hour, but when she shows me this 'look' I know I have to look for the door mat somewhere in the garden. I really meant YOU have the doormat look, not her..........just in case she has done it again...........just fleetingly
  9. She has learnt from past experience that there is a consequence, watch carefully, she may show subtle similar signs whenever you walk in the door, you may just not be noticing, perhaps you have the doormat look whenever she has been left alone indoors?
  10. Believe it has genetic predisposition, but most common in large fast growing males, therefore they must be kept lean and exercise should be vigorously monitored....my experience anyway with a medium sized breed....and I would think seriously about breeding affected dog or its close rellies
  11. Unfortunately in WA you can still sell a puppy "without papers" and not be breaching any CoE. Having said that I would go elsewhere. Well, WA should start complying with ANKC Regs!!!
  12. I always stay, last thing I can give my special friend..............but we don't know what else is happening in people's lives and unless we are in their shoes we should not judge
  13. ??? ...I don't understand this, that's not consistent with the information I have, e.g.Border Collie - Wikipedia Discussion here is regarding dogs registered with ANKC, Australia is recognised as country of development ie. first breed standard/s (NZ might disagree), UK is country of origin
  14. Too late now but I understood DNA in saliva can be used to determine who bit?
  15. Basic obedience, socialisation and a suitable temperament are all that are required
  16. DV do not do the training though.......all they do is assess.....I have had two certified.....big difference between therapy dog and an assistance dog too
  17. Is a grape vine all that dangerous? Could you not fence it off? Seems a drastic measure and no guarantee a replacement won't be just as bad
  18. Has an exemption been agreed to re ACTCA members breeding ANKC registered bitches?
  19. Having seen Lappies herd, I am sure they bully the reindeer by yelling at them!!
  20. Dogs shed skin just like they shed hair and it can occur mainly at cost drop.........even short single coats moult, as you have noticed
  21. I'd have to say "yes" to "you can do better handling this". I'd also like you to remove the word "dominance" from your explanations of her behaviour. It may be popular with Cesar Milan but it rarely applies to pups. Lighten up, supervise more and praise like crazy for what you want. It will get easier. But more encouragement and less discouragement will also build a happier more confident pup. :) Poor little thing, agree with above advice, and get her vet checked too
  22. Usuually up and bouncing in hours.......I have never needed a collar on any of my post speying/caesar bitches........but I am usually around all the time........I try and avoid them jumping and getting wound wet, you will be given care instructions
