  1. Thanks Simply Grand, Asking for a deposit is a bit too much, especially if you can't visit and play with the puppies yourself. A requirement for a dog to be desexed is mad. I am the one to make this decision. This decision will be based on the dog's temperament or health reasons etc, not because a particular breeder doesn't want competition. We are talking about living thing, in most cases a member of a family. Perhaps I am alone thinking along these lines.... Asking a small refundable deposit is OK, desexing is not to avoid competition, but I would not buy an already desexed baby or agree to young desexing if that is a condition of sale. Go elsewhere. There are many reasons why a pup is on limited registration. Just remember that a succeessful ethical breeder's last pick of litter is often better than another breeder's first pick, they are not necessarily second rate citizens!!
  2. My thoughts are with you for I have made the journey several times...........and the thing I now know and hold strongly is it is better a day too soon than a day too late..........we have to do it for our loved companions, the last gift we can give them
  3. There is a crate in the puppy pen for them to explore as soon as they can find their way out of the whelping box - by three weeks
  4. Know a pointer breeder who would agree with you, takes a skilled trainer to find other motivation, friend has done a great job with theirs
  5. I am told we aren't far away from a govt ban on dewclaw docking.................my breed is not docked, except for rear ones some lines throw, personally you might as well dock legs, they get injured too LOL
  6. You are talking about a cross breed here, they are two different breeds as far as purebred ANKC registered dogs go....................if breeders are breeding for coat alone, what do you know of the background and the health status of the forebears? Ethical?????
  7. I was grateful for the post, it drew my attention to the existence of such scum...................I am not on FB, etc and would not have known about them otherwise
  8. Cripes, that is why my dogs are so unruly, I don't have a television set in the house and if I did it would only be on ABC so no ad breaks LOL So I need a TV to train my dogs? Just kidding
  9. Surgery is only real option, unless you want the dog to suffer undue pain for rest of his life, they don't repair themselves..................find a good surgeon and even then the best possible recovery only comes with very careful aftercare for weeks and qualified rehab if you have access................voice of experience speaking!! And if the dog favours one leg the other will almost surely go too, unless definitely a trauma, cruciates go because of poor construction so likelihood of both stifles is high
  10. Had this with a dog once, thought the poor boy had mumps when I first saw him one morning, was thought it might be a stick injury and antibiotics saw it gone quickly.............but if yours has recurred I would watch for whatever might be causing it........I recently had a splinter in a thumb which was all but invisible when eventually removed (splinter, not the thumb!!) not even infected but extremely painful
  11. 5 mins max at that age, incidental training rather than sessions, and puppy should think it is playing, no work
  12. I have heard test is not 100%, friend got caught
  13. They weren't to know she was only going to be there three hours, they would have started the same admission process as for any dog hence they are entitled to a fee

  15. She could be losing sight or hearing, very disorienting and makes big out doors scary
  16. Just as long as it's not someone trying to get bloodlines "through the back door".....it happens...........so I would clear it with all concerned first..............I and there is no contract stipulating breeding restrictions on this bitch........have seen it end in court!!
