  1. I found two baby teeth from my pet poodle. One in the coat of another poodle after a play session and the second on the floor in my hallway after a play session. The others magically disappeared.
  2. Friend said it was 44 at Geelong at 18:47 and sent a photo to prove it. Luckily it is only 37.4 here but I am staying inside until that fireball sinks a bit lower in the sky.
  3. Sitting here in the airconditioned comfort with the dogs spread out in various parts of the room. Outside temperature 38 here at 4:30pm.
  4. Yep and those diehards will see it as even more of a chance because a lot won't turn up due to the heat! It's not just about the Show, if you are travelling from far these animals are often in trailers that will be blowing hot hair through the vents, not in air cond cars. It is the travel to and from that stops me from entering many shows during the hot months - a couple of hours in the car each way to KCC Park(no airconditioning) is too much for either the dogs or myself. Only enter shows that have the option of good shade etc (like Lancefield) and then if the weather is going to be extremely hot I just opt to stay home. My aim is for the dogs and I to enjoy the shows.
  5. Sounds ideal to me. Which part of the tablelands are you in? Wishing you good luck and great success with your new venture!
  6. This article add a few missing pieces to the story!!! http://www.news.com....r-1226230896745
  7. Even worse is that on the news I was half watching/listening to it said the dogs was 8 weeks old (not sure if that is 100% correct) as there seems to be varing reports of eight months to three months depending on which news item you read. Initially wondered if she considered it an unwanted Xmas present. Made me wonder if the cute and cuddly stage was becoming less endearing now it was probably demanding more care and attention and making more work for her. Now I know why I am vetting my puppy buyers so stringently.
  8. Had the same problem Christmas eve - 5 month old pup I had here for over a week had a very loose and slimy poo. She also threw up so to be on the safe side I isolated her from the others in a large crate (to keep an eye on what she was outputting as well). She seemed bright enough in herself so I didn't feed her for the rest of the day, she only had access to water. In the morning was full of beans although I still kept her away from the others till later in the day after she had eaten some cooked chicken and there had been no more observed problems. She still was a bit loose but not worryingly so and was full of beans. I guessed she may have eaten something (chook, duck, goat, sheep or cow manure might not have agreed with her)or otherwise picked up a bug but none of the others showed any symptoms. If she hadn't been so bouncy I would have been off to the Vet but decided to give it a day and observe her due to it being Xmas eve and also having a teenager sick running a fever. Both have bounced back - pup quickest as teenager looks to have German measles and it is count the dots!!!
  9. I had an experience like this when we first moved into our current house and had no fencing. I was in dining area and saw large dog marching up the driveway as though it owned the place. I went straight outside to chase it out only to be confronted by two very large hunting breed dogs. The female probably would have been ok but the male barred his teeth and adopted a threating pose. I decided that retreat might be best due to the fact their was two large dogs and only myself at home. Went back inside and immediately rang the local council ranger - only to get a message bank. I then rang the council about how to contact the ranger. When I explained why the lady said that the owner had reported them missing and was out looking for the dogs and gave me his mobile number. By the time he arrived they had run everywhere around the house area and then had created havoc by running around the fencing of the chook pen. The turkeys became so terrified by the aggression at the pen and noise of the dogs the lighter weight ones flew out of the pen into the paddocks. At the time I wished I owned a gun as I felt my animals were so vunerable and all I could do was sit and wait for the owner/ranger. When the owner arrived with a friend he caught the bitch easily but the dog was more of a challenge and even he had trouble getting it to his car. After checking around once they were secured I found they had killed my youngest pet bantam chook that used to roam around the place and except for the male turkey all other turkeys(6) were scattered (later found some ended up across the highway in a neighbours property). I believe I was lucky (thank goodness) they didn't see the goats and kids in the back paddock only because they were so engrossed in trying to get the chooks and turkeys and their owner arrived quickly (although not quick enough for me!!!). He said that someone had opened his gate. The dogs had travelled around 2 kms from their home and even though they caused problems here I was just thankful that they didn't encounter any kids or vunerable people on their journey as I wouldn't like to imagine what could have happened.
  10. Charges after dog thrown out window Tuesday, December 27, 2011 » 05:04am LIVE: Breaking News A woman will face court charged with animal cruelty after allegedly throwing her dog out a unit window. A woman will face court charged with animal cruelty after allegedly throwing her dog out the window of a unit complex in Sydney's west. Police say a dispute between a 24-year-old woman and a male friend took place in a unit in Park Avenue, Kingswood about 3.45pm (AEDT) on Monday. The woman allegedly picked up the dog and threw it out her bedroom window 15 metres above the ground. The dog was treated by a vet for a broken leg, broken teeth and suspected internal injuries. Police later charged the woman with cruelty to an animal causing serious injury. She was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday. The dog will remain in care and undergo further tests.
  11. Judging commences at 9:00am Group 1 1 Group 2 171 Group 3 252 Group 4 352 Group 5 472 Group 6 597 Group 7 791 - 899
  12. Newsagents in our area just cut off the masthead to claim their returns so newspapers are bundled up for recycling and are given willingly to those asking for it. As we don't get any papers had a friend save them for us too!!
  13. I enquired about using this method for my pups but my vet clinic in surburban Melbourne doesn't use it. I didn't speak to the vet spoke to receptionist/vet nurse. From that conversation I gathered that they were sticking to tried and tested method rather than introduce a new method that they weren't 100% confident with.
  14. Just wondering what the entry was like for this show - are group numbers available. Thinking about going for a look (depending on weather) and would like to try to guesstimate approximate times for breeds I am interested in watching.
  15. Thanks for the reminder. Our local pet shop and feed store only stock the basics - they don't even have premium kibble - have to buy that through the vets. Visited the saddlery store in the next town today as I drove through and was able to pickup some blade wash and oil at competative prices too! Thanks!! meant I didn't have to wait to get it or have to make a special trip to the pet supplies store to get some (2 hour return trip)!!!!
  16. One of mine also has pus/mucous in one eye and it has been re occuring. I noticed that the eye was red but put it down to her getting under the house in the dirt and dust. Thinking it was due to irritation I started washing with warm saline solution so will see what the outcome is after a few days. So far she is the only one of my crew with the symptoms.
  17. Having pups that are well sought after by byb and those creating designer dogs I am thinking about this option before letting pups go. Does anyone know of vets doing this surgery on the other side of Melbourne ? I have contacted Cragieburn Animal Hospital but they don't provide this type of surgery.
  18. My smart little people only lasted about 10 minutes in their soft crates in the car before they climbed into the front seat. Thats how long it took them to work out how to open the zip. When I pinned the zip closed one ate through the material around the zip. I have fixed it but I definitely wouldn't leave them in it in an unsecure area.
  19. Strange considering the fact that the hereditary basis for PDA has nor been established in any breed as far as I am aware. The siblings may produce the problem but I have no idea how he can say they are carriers. From the few cases I know of in my breed it appears to most likely be a dominant gene so only one parent is the problem and has a very, very minor case of PDA that is not clinically able to be determined. There is no real way to work out which parent unless they produce another case to another partner. Any genetically unaffected siblings definitely do not seem to carry it. I know one breeder who had one case occur in several litters many years ago. Breeding on from those same lines she has not had another case in 20 years. It is one of the two most common heart congenital heart defect in all pure and cross bred dogs (and I think in humans) and is the failure of the heart vessels to separate properly as the heart develops. It is extremely unusual for a murmur from PDA to not be detected at 6 weeks so you and the breeder have been very unlucky to have this missed. In some puppies the condition corrects up to 3-4 months as they grow and in others it gets worse. There is no screening test to avoid breeding PDA, other than not breeding with dogs with heart murmurs. Surgery before the heart is damaged works very well but most people would not spend $5000+ for testing and surgery and would put the puppy down. In the unlikely event that a puppy with PDA is sold most breeders would expect the owner to return the puppy or have it pts and would offer either a replacement or refund, when another puppy or the funds becoem available. This is what the specialist said about it being hereditary: This is a congenital defect. Poodles lines have been studied with PDA histories, and a hereditary mechanism has been proven in this breed. It also occurs more frequently in females. The presence of this defect requires changes to be made to the current breeding program. Both the sire and dam should also be assessed by a specialist via both auscultation and echocardiographic assessment for evidence of a PDA. Small PDAs are not always discernible via auscultation. Either the sire or the dam/or both a carriers for this defect. Not all carriers will have the phenotypic expression of the defect themselves. Unaffected siblings of this pup may also be carriers. I am happy to wait for the money when another litter is born instead of another pup which will be sometime next year. I guess we just hope the breeder keeps their word to that and oh well if not. I am still going to keep them upto date on Coco and send pictures as she grows up and gets new hair cuts and what not as I always have That quote from the specialist is correct but is not what you posted earlier. The siblings may be carriers or may be completely genetically free of the problem and therefore able to carry on the bloodline with no risk of the condition happening again. One of the parents is also likely to be completely normal so not breeding with either parent would be eliminating a perfectly normal dog from the gene pool. I hope Coco recovers after the surgery with no ill affects but I would be wary about doing surgery if there is already heart damage. I know of one puppy that already had too much damage by 3 months for surgery to be an option. If the blood flow reverses it causes damage that cannot be undone. Please give the breeder a little while to digest all this because it will probably have been a big shock to them if they have never encountered it before. Then ask them to consider a refund at some time when the funds are available. Hopefully they will be able to do this for you. I only hope that if there are any requests to use that particular dog at stud that the breeder mentions that this problem has occurred so bitch owners can make a fully informed decision rather than sweeping it under the carpet and hope it doesn't surface again. I know I have been told not to use certain dogs by those in the know but it makes me angry that to some registered breeders the $$$$ are more important than the long term welfare of the breed (not saying that is the case in this situation just generalising) .
  20. How old is the dog Mille? We have only ever tested one of our boys prior to a mating and that was because he was an older dog that had never been used at stud. He'd been in four homes prior to coming to us so we wanted to make sure he still had swimmers The dog is 9 years old. They said they tested him in order to freeze sperm and he was ok for sperm count. I did ask about fertility because they originally wanted 3 matings over 3 days. I guess stud dog progeny record is not open to public view like online studbook AQHA horses? I have been out of dog breeding since 1970s (might be still out of it). Thanks for your comments. I tried to get information on stud dog's progeny through Dogs Vic but was advised that this information is no longer available due to the privacy laws now in force . How annoying and illogical. Somebody should take this up with them. The privacy laws should cover people very strictly. But dogs should not be covered by privacy laws at all. All information on their achievements, hits and misses should be something available on the register for all to see, as it is conducive to breeding to improve the breed. Hiding information about dogs available at stud is harmful to a breed. A dog is not going to be able to sue the registry for breach of privacy, and as long as there is no identifying details given about owner or address, there is no breach of anyone's privacy. How ridiculous that privacy laws should be abused in this way.  Privacy and litters are printed in the Gazette. If you had the inclination and the time your could go to KCC library and note the details of litters sired by the stud dog in every state and following up on them - but it would be time consuming. I enquired after reading information detailing the top producing Hungarian Vizsla sires (ANCK Database last updated 1 July 2005) listing the name of the sire, owner, titled progeny, number of litters and total number of offspring as to where the current information could be sourced from. I was advised by the Dogs Victoria Office that this information is no longer available due to the privacy laws. (Unable to copy the listing as it is part of a website and copying from it is barred - understandable)
  21. Obviously an incentive that is working in Taiwan - wonder if it would be successful here!!!!! Dog poop lottery draws in thousands Thursday, December 08, 2011 » 03:16am Thousands of Taiwan citizens are collecting bags of dog poop in the hope of winning $A2000 in gold. An innovative scheme to keep the streets of northern Taiwan clean has seen thousands of citizens dutifully collecting bags of dog poop in the hope of winning $A2000 in gold. More than 4000 residents of New Taipei City, which surrounds the capital, have signed up for the competition since it was launched in early August, and have so far collected 14,000 bags of the stuff. 'The outcome of the campaign beat all our expectations,' Lai Lien-chueh, from the city's environmental protection bureau, said on Wednesday. Those taking part in the scheme were given one lottery ticket for each bag of dog waste they collected, with the top prize in the draw including gold ingots worth about $T60,000 ($A2000).
  22. Thanks for the map Rural Pug - much appreciated. Makes it easier when you know the general direction you need to head in. Last year I didn't get there till mid morning and I had to park right down the back near the water tanks. Then had to try to find ring by navigating through the crowds while lugging all the gear. If I remember rightly there was a heavy downpour of rain just after I arrived last year but luckily the club is a small one and we had use of one of the gazebos so I didn't need to bring any form of shelter.
  23. It would be handy to know where my breed group is going to be located prior to arriving at KCC Park, is it possible to access this map online? I can't get into members section since computer had to be fixed as I lost a lot of information. Have just made a second request to Dogs Vic for another password. Is the pavilion going to be available or is work still in progress on the re-surfacing?
  24. I have been using comfortis and my supplier sent me this email regarding new product. I won't be using it as I rather worm at set intervals and luckily we aren't in a heartworm area so not a big issue for us atm *** Panoramis For Dogs *** BUY NOW This is just a little note to let you all know about a new product that has recently been released in Australia. We can see you have tried comfortis! It is certainly one of our most popular products because it works brilliantly for the control of fleas! If you loved comfortis as much as we do, you might also like this new product called “panoramis”. ‘Panoramis’ is a monthly chewable tablet for dogs that – Treats, prevents and controls fleas Controls flea allergy dermatitis Prevents heartworm disease Treats and controls adult hookworm, roundworm & whipworm infections. Panoramis is promoted to be an ideal choice for: · Dog owners who dislike mess and inconvenience · Households with children or other pets · Dogs that swim or are washed frequently · Dogs with dermatological (skin) conditions requiring topical therapy Before starting panoramis is it import to discuss the suitability of this product with your veterinarian. Any dog that is older than 5 months and has never taken any heartworm preventatives, a dog that has missed a monthly treatment or been more than 2 weeks late on a monthly heartworm treatment, are not likely to be ideal candidates for the product without a heartworm test first, so you should consult with your vet before starting treatment. Also remember that Comfortis and Panoramis don’t treat ticks, so if you live in a tick area, you will still need a product for ticks. Panoramis can be safely used with preventic or kiltix collars (but remember that nothing substitutes for checking your pets thoroughly each day during the tick season!!). We hope you like Panoramis as much as we do. The feedback on the product so far has been very good! For more information on Panoramis go to http://panoramis.com.au/default.aspx Regards The team at Budget Pet Products .
