  1. WELL THE VET I GO TO SAYS THAT HEARTWORM ISNT PREVALENT IN OUR AREA BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER IT IS BUT I GIVE THEM ALL A MONTHLY HTTAB JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE,ALSO CAUSE I GO INTO AREAS OF AUS WITH THE DOGS THAT HAVE A HUGE MOZZIE PROBLEM FOR 3MTHS A YEAR..THE VET SHOULD HAVE A CHART OR SOMETHING THAT SHOWS HEARTWORM PRONE AREAS LIKE A MAP OF SORTS.. DONT MIND THE CAPS IME NOT YELLING, JUST A LAZY BUGGER THAT CANT BE BOTHERED RE-TYPING .
  2. Shitabrick hey Haha sometimes my dogs will crap out dogmade marble, makes it easy to poop scoop the yard, but is a sign of to much bones this week for them.. :D
  3. If the tape worms are being expelled thats good it means the worm medication is working as it should...alls good no probs..all dogs on raw and meaty bones need regular treatment...Mmmm lucky dogs get Roast lamb for human grade meat even though the meat inspections are top notch, a few tapeworm cysts wouldnt get picked up, but its a lot better now than it was say 20yrs ago..
  4. Mine get those huge marro bones every week, cut up though so they can get to the marro more easily, also chuck bones or half a sheeps back and ribs.. <there eyes bug outa there head when the see them lol>..and chew happily and quietly for hours *Ahh love that peacefull time* about worms, if there on a regular worming program say every 3 or 4 months i dont think there would be any probs..The only raw meat i dont feed my dogs is pork....Apparently my Great Grandma ended up with a tapeworm, she was from a country area and used to love eating 'blue'or bloody steak not my style ETA But theres no way i can confirm this...
  5. Seriously leg humpin isnt a good look, I seen a lady in the park sitting on the bench with her JRT happily humping her leg off I ask her why she dosnt stop him,she said its a behavioural problem and shes supposed to ignore it and he will stop...yeah right 2months later the dog still does it Dont know about meat and vegetables, but sometimes my dog will sit down and show the world his wang...
  6. LOl just give him a pillow to love........ Sometimes these things just..Happen...
  7. My three get a damp shammy rubdown every week, witch cleans the coat without removing the oil from the skin, unless theyve found some wonderful putrid stench to cover themselves in then its bath time, a good tip that i can give is every so often brush in and brush out some bicarb soda,it takes away any of that doggy odor and is really great for the skin and shines up there coats a treat.....
  8. HI,this is from personal experience, when i was a kid living in QLD i used to go bush quite often and i would end up covered in little bush ticks, Metho was the method used to get rid of them(As stated above)a little cotton que tip dipped in metho and wiped on the ticks would make them fall off in a minute or so.. I might be a little bit feral but ime not as bad as i used to be
  9. Also there are natural treatments that help rid the body of worms and keep these little nasties at bay.. cascara golden seal black walnut rhubarb wormwood sage garlic thats all i know
  10. I dont feel this thread has deteriated into a slanging match, infact ive been popping back in for a view every know and then and have found it most impressive and informative. thanx everyone..
  11. I started out with food reward then switched to positive reinforcement at about 5months old ( not me the dogs ) using whistle not clicker, now there all on hand signals..
  12. :D Its just a pinch collar peeps, alot safer than a check chain imo, instead of a thin chain tightning on the dogs neck, the pinch collar simply pinches the skin of the dogs neck in several places at once.when you pull back on this collar the prongs are pulled together all at once to pinch the skin now a lot of people "choke" there dogs with a chain and i reckon that would be more painfull and harmfull to the dogs throat in the long term... also the pinch collar can be custom fitted to your dogs neck by simply adding or removing links for that perfect fit... Its crap how all the good stuff gets banned. its also a slim to none chance that anyone will get busted using one.. All my dogs are on flat collars, but i found the pinch collar invaluable in retraining the big girl not to lunge at and chase the cats in the street when i walk her..only had two weeks use.
  13. ..... Hi gemibabe, How can you tell if your dog is overweight? In order to get an accurate assessment on your dogs weight you should check three areas. The ribs, neck and hips. Some dogs carry their fat in different places. Older dogs for example carry a lot of their fat in their neck area. Some in their hips and others along their sides. By checking all three areas you cover your bases and get a better picture about your dogs weight. Checking the ribs: Standing over top your dog with them securely between your legs, place both thumbs on the spine. Now slowly run your fingers along their rib cage on both sides. You should be able to feel the bones of the ribs without any pressure. If you have to increase your pressure to feel the rib bones your dog is overweight. Checking the neck: Push your index finger and your thumb deep into the side of your dogs neck. Now try to touch your finger and thumb together at the tips. If your finger and thumb are more than a quarter inch apart your dog is overweight. Checking the hips: Run your hand over your dogs back end. You should be able to feel the two pelvic bones without pressing in. If you have to use pressure to feel the bones your dog is overweight. How much weight should they lose? My answer to this question is, how fit do you want your dog? Almost all the dogs I've seen are slightly overweight, even when conditioned. Personally, I recommend consulting a canine sports doctor and getting their opinion. They specialize in active dogs and can give you detailed advice on how to condition your dog and get them to a reliable and safe weight.
  14. Yeah,(nods head in agreement) looks are quite decieving to an untrained eye, used correctly(how there supposed to be used)they are brilliant for retraining. very gentle and fast.. i did'nt think they were 'illigal' to be used in Aus,maby its just the importing thing ..
  15. You can hire or rent towles from spotless linnen, about $1 per towel i think, they pick up and lawnder towles and drop of new ones...If thats any help..
  16. Socilization, Socilization, Socilization, prevention is the best cure, but now you have to deal with correction. Do something now ie;profecional training, otherwise you may end up with one of those dogs that" cant go anywear"
  17. Larns; sorry i dont have the ability to post pic's at the moment but i can tell you that your pup is a spitting image of my pup(same shape, colour, partial black mask ,white blaze, ect. Only thing different mine dosnt have white chin ) my pup is just on 10mts and stands just over kneehight atm, she is ridgeback/apbt(amstaff) X weight is 29.5 kg atm;i have pure rodesian ridgeback also she stands just under my hip, weight 37kg ; i also have pure apbt ,stands mid thigh, weight 40 kg...as soon as ime able to post pic's,Woo Hoo look out, forum will be flooded.
  18. LARNS, holly s#%t!! your pup looks just like my ridgy X pup,WOW. , your feeding reigeme looks great to me instead of feeling confused just get as much info on everything possible to do with dogs health/nutrition/grooming/ he-he which is what your doing and just pick what you feel you agree with and run with it (making small adjustments here "n" there to suit) then you'll never ever be confused ever again.. PS what breed/s your pup again?..
  19. I"M not trying to have a go either,if anyone is to keep animals and be a good animal husbandman/woman some serious reaserch and study into natural animal behaviour and actions/reactions is the only thing you can do, otherwise it is very eazy to "ruin" a good dog through forced negative unnatural learning patterns..the addage of "spare the rod spoil the child(DOG)" is rubbish;if a kid is constantly belittled and hit he/she grows into either fearfull or agressive adult..it is only 1 of those two things nothing else, and dogs are no exception...
  20. UMMM i dont meen to sound like an idiot(but i probably do so who cares )but when this all started did you think about Mozzies?or sandflies constant licking of mozzie bites can cause seriouse infections..i have also found that a swim at the beach or saltwater baths regulary do wonders that medicated creams dont do..
  21. How about dried liver for a while allways seemed to work well for my 3..
  22. Iron dog competition;has anyone heard of this?if so what does it intale,i have heard its something about mountain run, and swimming but thats all i know....
  23. Cordelia :D couldn't help yourself, one last dig hey :Gee i gues in your eyes ime an irrisponsible dog owner for wanting to get my dog steralized hey.Oh well it's just as well he got desexed against my wishes then.. ;)
  24. My appoligies to your thread KIT i think i will just have to aggree to disagree also...but yes sterilization is an alternative to desexing perhaps you should discuss the pros &cons with your vet.... ;) well bye now..
