  1. Yep I usually take Any strays to the vet first (if they have no id on them) to check if they have an M/C that keeps them out of the pound system especially if they could be a restricted breed or mistaken for one. If I pick them up a 2nd time then they go to the pound or RSPCA so the owner has to pay money to get the dog back. Hope he had a family looking and ended uo home.
  2. that's not considering the amount of money the op has paid over the life of the insurance payment while the dog was alive. A very rough working out by me puts the op at paying around $1300 over the life of his insurance payment including the extra payments, so they are definately worse off. I HATE insurance companies. They are schemers and have so many exclusions and ways out of paying things that the average person can just not concieve. I agree with you too, that it is wrong. Considering your pet died in October, when if you started your policy in Sept 09, the beginning of your year would be Sept 2011, it is only one month into the next year. Surely rather than you paying 11 months of a years policy that your dog is in no way going to use, is wrong. Im sorry for your loss, and im sorry that some corporate body intends to compound your loss by making you have to deal with this. No as already stated by other members. An insurance company sells you *annual* insurance which they allow you to pay monthly in installments to make it more affordable. If you claim on that years policy then you have to pay for the whole years policy. My mums car was written off in an accident in October 2010 the insurance had only renewed in September and the insurance company took the remaining years payments from the payout. This is common insurance company policy. I am with medibank for my youngest dog and made several claims last year with no dramas. Very sorry for you loss OP.
  3. Argh so frustrating. Mine was shipped 12/12 and yours has arrived before mine. Mine only got to the AusPost depot in Sydney yesteday and is in transit to Bris today humph! Waiting and seeing everyone elses arriving is hard lol. The way my first order is going my 2nd order will arrive first!
  4. Oh boo. My first package was posted 12/12 and took until 27th to make it through customs but nothing since, nothing about going through the sort facility waiting sucks. Edit: i lie just checked the tracking again and it says it arrived at the post office this afternoon (i checked it this morning so nothing then) ***squeeeeee*** so excited i wonder if they will actially deliver it or just do the mail drop thing. It supposed to be going to my work.
  5. One of my baby girls (the other was being difficult). Not so happy Mum made her sit still with the Santa hat on when what she really wanted to do was play with it.
  6. Oh boo RubyStar. My package was posted on the 12th and hasnt even checked into Aus. Yours was posted 16th and has shown up! Lucky for some ;)
  7. Oh boo RubyStar. My package was posted on the 12th and hasnt even checked into Aus. Yours was posted 16th and has shown up! Lucky for some ;)
  8. That is awesome GussysMum!!! Woohoo I finally got my tracking number after asking again and just checked it and it said it was processed through Chicago on the 15th and is on the way to its destination but nothing since not checked into Aus or anything boo, looks like I won't see it until early next year.
  9. I got the exact same email RubyStar, I replied to it immediately and was apologized to and told my tracking number would be sent to me on Monday (it was friday night over there by that stage and the packaging team had left or something) I am still yet to receive it. I think I will email them again now. ETA - My reply also came from Evelyn.
  10. I was wondering about that too - can anyone just refuse to speak to the RSPCA even if complaints have been made against them?? Of course they can. the RSPCA has no legal right to force someone to speak to them, no matter what.
  11. Regarding renting and the runs. Those particular runs are not permanent and dont need to be concreted in or anything, they are just anchored down, then when/if you move you just take the whole thing down and move it with you. So I doubt your real estate or landlord would mind
  12. It was June last year so June 2010, so you may have heard about it back then....
  13. Probably a cheaper and more effective idea would be to build your dog a fully enclosed run. There is no guarantee that your current yard with an electric containment system will keep him in (as per previous posts) and the last thing you want is a dog aggressive dog running loose. Because even if the dog is only dog aggressive, if she goes for a dog and the owner tries to intervene it could become a dog attacks human case, not something you want on your conscious or something you want to deal with. You can get some very decent runs for a very decent price these days. I know someone with a fully enclosed 10sqm run that only cost him $900 delivered and keeps in his Malamutes. Something like this http://www.barkcontrol.com.au/buy/petsafe-large-rectangular-kennel-run-2.3m-x-3.8m-x-1.8m-75136/303 Would be good.
  14. Mine now says shipped 19 Dec as well. But as per my last package I haven't received an email yet. So basically it says shipped in their system but all they have done is processed it and it is now waiting for shipping (this is a glitch in their system) they probably won't be shipped until today or tomorrow. When you get your email it will say that actual shipping date in it.
  15. The Ayen Chol case would have had no effect on this particular case, seeing as it happened in June, well before the Ayen incident.
  16. Oh I agree, their service is fantastic. I don't think anyone is really going to make it a big deal or complain, but as you said a quick note on the website about delays wouldn't go astray and would probably be appreciated by most. In the end I am happy to wait. My main package was posted 12/12 so I am hoping I am one of the lucky ones and it only takes 9 or so days to arrive. :D
  17. Still no answer as to why the secrecy? Refusing to talk to the RSPCA investigator? Why not releasing the autopsy? Why not the CCTV? They are making it as hard as possible for her to find out what happened. If they were not at fault they wouldn't be making it so hard. And why wasn't she contacted? Her dog was laying dead in their pound, a dog that had been reported lost/missing and they never contacted the owner? Yes we as owners have a responsibility but as yo have admitted, even the most responsible owners can sometime have a pet escape. And I am sure this lady regrets it every day now but I can understand her anger at the Council and police, especially considering the secrecy they are operating under in relation to her dogs death.
  18. No it doesn't sound like people breeding under 2 litters or 20 pups per year will get penalized at all. Only "breeders" ie: people who breed 2 litters or 20 pups a year.
  19. I am the first to admit (even though both my dogs are big dogs) that wandering big dogs can be frightening, I encountered one 2 weeks ago and stayed clear, encountered it again a week ago and could see that time that it was friendly, I took it to the vet, but I am a very confident dog person, with experience in dog body language. In saying that, the council are being extremely secretive, on top of that she notified the council that her dog was loose the day of and she was never contacted...why? Even worse if they had been contacted by her before the report of the dog in the neighbours yard came in, because if that was the case then they could have called her to come get the dog. I can understand her anger and I would be the same. Could you imagine calling the pound expecting no news and being told your dog was dead, to see your dog laid out like that dead.. I can't imagine how distressing that was.
  20. They have always given me my tracking number when asked...you just have to send them your name & order number. I did the same as RS and got the same answer next day. Not that it mattered as mine got delivered the day I got the reply Was just me being impatient. They did leave something out of mine so I sent them another email with a reply the next day apologizing and saying it will be sent to me on the next business day. So cant complain with the service. Same here. I sent an email back saying I hadn't complained about it not showing up or asked for it to be replaced just that I wanted a tracking number. They said someone would send it today... Bummer about all the orders backing up and not being shipped for over a week. I ordered one last Thursday, the way its going it could take more than a week for it to ship though. I agree with whoever mentioned extra staff, because they do say on their website it will be shipped within 2 - 3 days.
  21. AS above Megan_ you have to have council approval now to own 1 dog if you live on property under 300sqm... That is ridiculous, as far as I am concerned you should not have to ask permission to own 1 dog!
  22. It took a few days for me to get the email saying my order had been shipped from when the order said it was shipped by logging in to my account. I think the updated on the account might be done electronically with a scanner or something and the emails done manually, which would explain why it took so long for you to get the email as I imagine they're inundated with orders. I'd be going by the date it was shipped on your account. Unfortunately no. I emailed them and asked them about that and it is a glitch in the system and automatically classifies it as posted on their website when it hasn't been posted yet. The email you received is the true postal date. Mine was posted 12/12 but said posted on their website 8/12, hopefully the order I did yesterday will be posted by Monday.
  23. Perhaps if he is taken to the local ranger instead, and informed of the owners address, they might take more notice having to pay to bail him out. Agree. If I pick up the big boy I did last night again, now that I know he has a M/C, he will be going to the local pound so they have to fork out cash to get him back. I will give them the benefit of the doubt at the moment that he is getting out without their knowledge but now they have had to pick him up from the vets, they definitely know and should contain him.
  24. I would go in a mention it to the staff and see if there is any response, if not report it.
  25. I can understand the sentiments of people who want to hold onto a dog being worried that they may be PTS at the pound, in saying that it isn't right, sometimes you just have to suck it up and do the right thing and if you are really worried as others have said put your name on the animal if an owner is not found. I took this dude to the Emergency Vet last night (only Vet open at that time) It was the 2nd time in the last week that I had seen him wandering our area. The first time he seemed nervous and I was on my own with my leash aggressive dog so couldn't approach him, I watched him from afar and called the Council to report him. Yesterday I was walking the same dog when I spotted him running around the local park and playing with the other dogs. I ended up calling my parents and getting them to come get my dog and bring a spare leash. I had treats on me (always do when walking the dogs) and approached him, gave him some food and soon we were besties. I walked him home, he was a sweeite, walked well on leash, took food ever so gently, sat on command, shook hands, he was desexed and seemed well looked after. All in all a gorgeous dog, I fell in love, he stole my heart the sweetie. Found out he had a chip when we went the vets (I suspected he did) and I left him there for them to contact his owners. I am going to call them soon to see if he was picked up.
