  1. Yay!! Haha I will keep an eye out for you. I love Newfie's and he just looks like such a cutie that I think I need to give him a pat!!
  2. I am another vote for Whippet or Greyhound, they are beautiful dogs, and match what you are looking for really. I love BT's but they need someone with a lot of patience and persistence because otherwise they will out persist you when it comes to training. In saying that I know some really fabulous BT's owned by friends who have done a wonderful job with their dogs. One is so great we call her Nanny Scarlett and she looks after all the pups and teaches them manners. Best of luck finding a suitable breed.
  3. Hey if I can't get a broadsheet to pick it up, it's going everywhere else I can find space, including as letters to every politican I can find. If that is the case, happy to help distribute when the time comes. I did point a few people on a different forum over here to have a look see earlier just because I think it is a great article and well written.
  4. LOL - it's my piece, Kiera. I emailed my old lecturer recently to ask if he could remember the story and he sent me some news story links as starting points and I went from there. There's more information to be collated out there - this is just a first draft. I was considering expanding to a full feature article and approaching some broadsheets on it, but there's more to be done on it (and in fairness I should probably take it off here if I wanted to do that). I completely understand. I look forward to reading the finalised product.
  5. Fantastic post. Thank you very much for sharing. Do you mind if I copy and post elsewhere/make it a note on facebook. Obviously happy to give credit to you or whoever was in charge of writing this fantastic piece.
  6. I have been told that the AVA have sent out a 5 page letter to all vets stating that they do not support BSL and giving them instruction on how to handle to situation. A good friend of mine has physically seen this letter. He is going to try to obtain a copy.
  7. Oh will you be taking 1 or more of your dogs? I will have to look out for you. Especially if you take the Newfie pup :D
  8. So true. I have a dog aggressive/reactive dog and it would be plain stupid of me to stick my hands in to grab her even by the collar when she in all out reactive mode because she is so highly aroused she wouldn't even realise what she is doing before she has done it. I would never ever walk her off lead, I actually specifically walk her through the business centre of my area because very few people walk their dogs there and I have never seen an off leash dog there so less chance of someone's out of control dog running up to us and getting into a fight with my dog, I can also easily see dogs coming and take avoidance measures. Luckily I am yet to actually have any dog run up to her (touch wood) but I guess my plan in that situation would be to lift her front end as high off the ground as I could and start yelling/kicking the other dog. I will say I have used the wheelbarrow method previously and it has worked a treat. But I don't actually walk backwards to start of with, first I lift up as high as I can and then when the dog has released I move backwards to minimise damage to the dog being attacked.
  9. Yay, I might come on the Saturday, I think I actually have free time this weekend and I have never been. OMG it says they are going to have dock diving there!! I love dock diving and would love to do it with my dogs but there is no proper set up in Aus.
  10. Happy for you to use photos of either of my dogs. Keira is a Ridge X Bullmastiff (Basically from Pig hunting lines) and has previously been mistaken for PB by someone who wanted to breed her with their male......idiots Phoenix is a Pitt X Let me know your email addy and I can email you some pics
  11. Thanks everyone. I will get the owner to contact the CCCQ and chase up the papers. Hopefully he isn't one of those people who thinks "papers" are vaccination certificates or a receipt and the dog really is pedigree. I am not taking the dog but he is trying to rehome the dog and I am helping which is why I am trying to find out who the breeder was and get hold of papers so whoever we rehome the dog to will have all the appropriate things.
  12. Will get him to give CCCQ a call and see if they are in his name/what he needs to do to get them re issued. If they are not in his name will they be able to help by advising of breeders who had litters born on that date?
  13. Ahhh awesome thanks guys good idea LOL. I will try that. I am not really up to date on purebred dogs and papers etc as I have never had one.
  14. Hi All, I am trying to work out who the breeder of a male American Staffordshire Terrier was so we can have his papers re-issued as the owner has lost them. He is a fawn male dog. He was part of a 14th or 15th of February 2010 litter. The breeder is apparently in the Willowbank, QLD area but could be nearby suburbs. If anyone knows who the breeder might be can you let me know. Thanks
  15.   :dancingelephant: :cheer: Awesome news to hear these girls are home. I can only imagine the worry their parents went through while they were gone.
  16. Well considering they said the dog was so big they had to have help apprehending the dog it clearly wasnt a pitbull, they are not really expected to go much over 25 kilos and come up to around your knee.
  17. Thing is, most people don't have a clue that dogs need to be "socialised". And even if they did, they would think "socialise" means "run around like maniac at the dog park". The great majority of dogs we meet have had very limited socialisation and no or very little training. A lot of dogs spend their lives in the backyard. So if the majority of the population has no clue that socialisation is good, or how to socialise a dog, then how would the politicians know? It also doesn't help that most pet shops and vets say you cannot take your dog out to socialise prior to having all its vaccinations which means the majority of people miss the critical socialization period of 8 - 16 weeks because most don't finish vaccs until 14 - 16 weeks. Re spending time in backyards - I am helping out my dog trainers with a group class they have and I am specifically helping with a Kelpie X Cattle Dog X Jack Russell who spends his whole life in the backyard with no stimulation and they wonder why this dog barks at people and dogs and shows aggressive behaviour, this dog is 9 months old.
  18. Am I missing something? Was there an attack in NZ?
  19. Someone needs to tell the Australian Federal Government about Calgary, Canada. They are at their lowest bite rate in 25 years with only 137 reported dog bites in 2007 (compared to Brisbane's 1175 in 2010/11 and Bris only has twice the population of Calgary) and they are dropping even though many many APBTs and crosses of are being bought into the Province and fostered or rehomed from other BSL affected cities. They legislate towards owners, they do not have BSL. What they are doing is so far ahead of any other State, Province, County, Council in any other Country in the world. The Calgary Model Attacks fall to lowest in 25 years I wish we could take a leaf out of their book and bring in laws that will work.
  20. They need to be notified again as they won't realise what is happening.
  21. How bizarre I was just going to ask you that. :D Gosh there are some ill informed people out there. ETA how many spare rooms do you have in your house PF? Yes PF, that is a great question. I have first dibs on a room at PF's house!
  22. Have you emailed them Geo? I will get onto Tybrax and see what she can do.
  23. Canberra's closer. I'm pretty confident the ACT won't get on this bandwagon. I don't know anymore, they are pushing for It to be national, how will they cope If being pushed I'm beginning to think they will surrender, I really hope not but this has now made me lose that hope that It wouldn't Sadly I think the same as you Danni. How long will the ACT hold up under National pressure to ban/restrict the breed. I think Australia as a whole is going to quickly become a very dangerous place to be a Pittie. The idiots who breed them, fight them etc won't care that their dog is taken away and euthanized but those of us who do care will be heartbroken. The good owners are being punished.
  24. I just feel sad and scared for my dog and scared for all the poor innocent dogs who are going to die. This is disgusting. I don't know how much longer I will stay in Australia if these laws are bought into place. Might move to Calgary.
