  1. Some vaguely good news for those of us in Qld. Linky And the pic they used (better than a snarling or chained, muzzled PB)
  2. Read the story before but it is a great one. Thanks for sharing!
  3. Thanks for sharing. I am going to post this on my facebook page.
  4. Sorry but if this is the case they should not have owned a dog in the first place. If you can't afford to register your dog why do you have one? That is a cop out excuse. I do agree with your second statement and have basically told people that they are being nieve thinking that getting rid of pitbulls makes the world a safer place to live, that their labrador/golden retriever/<insert other common family dog> has just as much potential to bite, maim or kill. People need to pull their heads out of the sand.
  5. Makes Victoria's new laws pale in comparison doesn't it. I thought it was bad that thousands of family pets could die in Victoria but tens of thousands are set to die in China WTF is the world coming to.
  6. Oh no Emily Keira had demodex when she was 4 months old, it took weeks and weeks of injections to get rid of it. Probably cost me close to $1000 by the end of it. Willow is insured hay? Sorry OP for thread jacking you. Glad you got some answers from your vet, I am sure it will clear up quickly with antibiotics. My pup had something similar when she was young, it went away pretty quickly with medicine.
  7. I just wanted to say sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how devastating it must be to lose such a young pup. I will be giving both my dogs lots of cuddles tonight, these sorts of threads always make you thankful for the time you have with them. Poodlefan has great advice.
  8. Yeah the UKC Breed Standard has a disclaimer on it about not being used to identify dogs as a certain breed. Also the DeFrey Vs Logan City Council case had a spokesperson from the UKC as a witness to states that their breed standard could not be used as a breed identifier. Someone needs to take the Council or State Govt (Vic) to court when they have their dog taken and have the "Standard" disproven in court.
  9. I have posted this in rescue but am very desparate so thought I would put it up here as well where it will get more hits. I am chasing an urgent foster preferrably in South East Queensland or within a couple of hours of Brisbane for a Male Rottweiler. Rambo along with 4 other dogs, 2 birds, 6 shetland ponies and a fish were all orphaned when there owner passed away a couple weeks ago. Currently all the other dogs have fosters, ponies have been rehomed as have the birds etc. I am going to pick up Rambo and the 2 other dogs who are still left on the property 3 hours northwest of Brisbane tomorrow and I desparately need somewhere for him to go whether that be a temp foster until we can find a more long term foster or a suitable forever home. Unfortunately I do not have the facilities or ability to keep him with me at all as I rent and have 3 dogs on the property as it is and the house is small. Rambo is approxiately 2 years old, is a large male rottweiler who has been living with 4 other dogs (inc 1 female and 3 males of varying sizes)and was living on a 5 acre property but being kept enclosed in a large dog dog yard with the other dogs. If you know of anyone who can help or of you can help then please call me ASAP Lee - 0406 646 907
  10. Tell your friends to call local Real Estate agents in the areas they are looking and explain what they are looking for ie: $400 p/w and dog friendly and the real estate will be able to tell them off the bat what houses they have available that are pet friendly and if they are not sure about specific houses they will call the owners and check to see if they are pet friendly or not. The extension spoken about earlier, petfriendlyrentals is legit and I have used it. I think you need to have Mozilla Firefox to use it though. Also tell them to look on Gumtree a fair few landlords (people who don't use agents) as well as agents advertise on there. I found my house on Gumtree in the Wynnum area and I have two dogs, both approved and on the lease
  11. I hope your Labrador has been neutered. Extremely aggressive anything is not acceptable in the breed standard. Btw. Labrador doesn't have an 'e' on the end. Personally, I think a lot of people should be breathing a sign of relief with publication of the standard. It is very detailed and would let through most bull X's I've met. Moreover, your dog can be exempted given " a certificate signed by a veterinary practitioner stating, or to the effect, that the dog is of a particular breed." Pedigree Am Staffs are also explicitly exempt. It's not good. It is stupid. But it could be a lot worse. The dogs will not have to meet the exact standard. It will be like the 22 point checklist they bought in and used in QLD. Basically if your dog meets a certain number or certain percentage it is a Pitbull or Pitbull X, trust me a lot of Bull Breeds will fall into the higher percentage that classifies them as a "Pitbull" according to the Vic Government. They also had and still have the Vet letter clause in Qld Legislation, it didn't stop Councils in Qld from taking and euthanizing or trying to take dogs in Qld who had Vet letter stating they were of a different breed.A friend had the Council try to take her dog away from her even though she had a Vet letter stating he was an Amstaff. So there is no guarantee a Vet Letter will help you at all.
  12. Offtopic but OMG Bosco is gorgeous Lokelani!! You are in a good State!
  13. I am thanking heavens right now I do not live in Victoria
  14. Thanks for the letters Leema, I have used them and sent an email to my local member this morning.
  15. Dogs registered as non Restricted breeds can be looked at by a Council Ranger and determined a Pitbull and seized anyways. This is why this is stupid. Because basically if you have a dog who could be mistaken for a PB even if it isn't you almost have to register the dog as a PB to keep it safe.
  16. Ergh! What an idiot. Good on you for standing up to her and putting her in her place.
  17. This is sickening . Trying to trick people into giving up their dogs when in reality these councils have no powers to take these dogs in the first place without following the proper process. I really really hope owners are smart enough not to fall for this but I know that is wishful thinking. We just need to post in as many places as possible so that as many people as possible see it.
  18. Apparently no progesterone tests were done on the bitch. And for someone that says "these dogs are my heart and soul" she sure has re-homed a lot of adults in the past year. Also is it not perjury to claim you're not a dog breeder when in fact you are a registered breeder and have bred dogs??? Hmmm I think it was the lady who had the bitch that said she was not a breeder. Not the breeder who studded out her male dog.
  19. I think I know which DOL dog you speak of and she knows her dog is incuded and thanked him for including the dog He did actually get loads of great feedback on Facebook and people were even upset he didn't use their dogs LOL but obviously not everyone feels the same and i understand that.
  20. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I will link this page to the author of the video so he can have a read and hopefully make a new and improved video that will appeal more to non PB people. Melz understand completely. I will remove it now but it is still posted in multiple places on facebook which is going to get a massive audience as well so I would urge her to contact him asap.
  21. melzawelza - She needs to contact the maker of the video if she has issues with his use of the photos she made public on the internet. It will not be hard to find him he will be one of her facebook friends. She made public on the internet? 1. her facebook profile is private and 2. She did not post the pictures of her dogs stating like a big red light 'THESE DOGS ARE APBT' which is what the video is doing. Not only is it completely incorrect (One is not APBT and the other she has no idea, may or may not), but it is incriminating her dogs! To not see why that isn't ok is madness. I had nothing to do with the making of the video. As I said she will be facebook friends with the person who did and she needs to contact him.
  22. Come on, you've met me in person and you know what I'm like without being colored by your present prejudice against me, grow up a little why don't you... You said "general population", you didn't say anything about Australia. And I am willing to bet a lot of those images of dogs fighting are from the US anyways. I think it's highly unlikely that there are "more than 50% of the population" in Australia who are tattooed and yet only 16% of Americans have tattoos. That seems like a hugely skewed amount, you need to keep in mind that we're all humans at the end of the day, a little cultural difference is not going to result in an increase in tattooing by 34% or more. Anyways, that's irrelevant, my point was that your friend shouldn't be using copyrighted material to be making a promotional video for the American Pit Bull Terrier. You think I am the one who needs to grow up...? Haha ok. I have made my judgement based on my meeting you and things I have seen with my two eyes and been told by Multiple people who I count as friends. Re read the page you provided it said 36 to 40% of the younger generations have at least 1 tattoo and that was 5 years ago. On top of that 60 year olds arent going out to get a tat so obviously that keeps the stats lower but as older generations pass and newer generations come of age following current trend it will quickly surpass 50%. But this isnt a discussion about tattoos.
  23. Where did you pull that fact out from? http://www.vanishingtattoo.com/tattoo_facts.htm It's kind of dodgy from a legal standpoint to be using photos that aren't either public property or registered under creative commons in a video, though.. Your friend could get in trouble for that, it's important when making promotional public videos to get the permission of the people who own the footage or images in the video. That could potentially be why it was removed, or it could have otherwise been removed because it contains pictures of dog fighting/shocking imagery. Sorry to say I take zero of what you say seriously anymore DJU. Why do people continue to pull American Statistics for Australia...... different countries, different cultures. They do the same with dog attack statistics its ridiculous.
  24. No where in the video did it say they were bred for dog aggression it only said they were culled for human aggression. The fighting photos were included to point out what WE as "humans" have forced these dogs to do, the horrible pain and horrible deaths we inflict on them. I have seen much worse photos posted all over facebook and the web in general. Legislation in most States of Australia is just a restriction ie: dog needs to be neutered and some States have no legislation and as someone else already pointed out you do not know when the photos were taken so it proves nothing in relation to people flaunting laws. The tattoos were included to show owners dedication to their dogs. I think you will find that at least 50% of the general population now have tattoos. melzawelza - She needs to contact the maker of the video if she has issues with his use of the photos she made public on the internet. It will not be hard to find him he will be one of her facebook friends.
