  1. Our boy just turned 12 months and started whining in his crate lately. Worst part is it's either when we're about to go to bed or at 2am! Might be right about the warm nights so tonight I'm going to try leaving the door open to let a bit of cool breeze into the room.
  2. Yep, seen our first brown last week just up the road. Don't seem to get them on our block though. I think our kids make way too much noise.
  3. Must be a dobe thing eh? My Buddys the same. At least if he needs to go out to pee or poop he lets us know! :D
  4. There was a guy that was attending Horsham greyhound meets. Does anyone know if he still goes?
  5. Good to see council not making any exception just because of a dogs size. Too many little dogs with bad attitudes!
  6. Our last dobe had an obsession with socks. Would swallow them down like they were cigarettes! and bring them up all over the place. Glad your dogs ok
  7. Buy a crate that your dog will grow into. Dogs adapt better than we give them credit. I was against crate traing but trust me it is the BEST thing you can ever do for yourself and more importantly your dog!
  8. Pros Gives the puppy a place as that can "own" Gives the puppy & you time out. Good for when you need to isolate the dog Can go camping, holidays, etc. For shows, etc, etc, etc Cons Price
  9. I just noticed our boys skin underneath is fairly red. He is fed a raw diet. Any ideas on diet changes. Could it maybe be the grass is his yard.
  10. Years ago I was always against the idea of using a crate but now I realise how naive I was Our last two puppies have both been crate trained and my advice is get a crate now, it is one of the best things you can do for your puppy!
  11. Our boy would probably sound like Bobcat Goldthwait :D
  12. Dobermanns are one of the main breeds that suffer from cervical vertebral instabilty (wobbler syndrome) which is caused by an instabilty in the intervertebral discs in the neck area. Signs normally develop between 4 and 10 years of age.
  13. I keep hearing whippets for children. That's what I'm leaning toward anyway!
  14. Dobes / Danes / Dobes / Danes / Dobes / Danes / German Shephards / Bull Terriers / Dobes / Danes / oh alright! there all cute!
  15. Don Burke takes on the pedigree dog industry June 17, 2011 , 3:30 PM by Tom Wright Don Burke of Burke's Backyard is picking a fight. He wants to highlight cruel practices that some pedigree dog breeders use in puppy 'farms'. He highlights the fact that in the UK dog breeding show Crufts is no longer shown on TV and the UK RSPCA has taken action against some breeders. He wants to see similar measures introduced here. He also agreed to answer talkback, leading to some fairly heated debate about some pedigree dog breeding practices. Did anyone listen to this interview last week between Richard Stubbs and Don Burke? He accuses purebreed breeders of puppy farming. I'm pretty sure he was promoting the benefits of cross-bred puppy farms only few years ago. The interview can be heard at http://blogs.abc.net.au/victoria/2011/06/don-burke-takes-on-the-pedigree-dog-industry.html?site=melbourne&program=melbourne_afternoons
  16. I also tend to think that a lot of 'show' labs are overweight and they are the standard bearers. This is absolutely disgusting and typical that the HS would try to turn it into a competiotion for the fattest dog. The labs that I see that are shown look a hell a lot healthier than those in my obedience club which are all overweight! Why?
  17. Now is not the time : . Give it a miss. This will be the most responsible thing you will ever do for a dog. There will be a better time.
  18. To quote Inevitablue Posted 14 June 2011 - 04:52 PM "There are breeds originally bred for the purpose of making people wary!" This is probably the truiest comment on this thread and I would agree 100%.
  19. Obedience training... I like seeing the other dogs in class doing what I wish my own dog would do
