  1. Yes, a good idea. Or put POA, Price on Application. Deters the 'grabbers for free', at least. Then, as you say, a suitable owner is told...'no cost to you.' If a person is being screened properly then it really doesn't matter neither does it matter where the dog is advertised. We have an adoption fee of $300 on dogs in our care and still get a bunch of idiots who want to breed them (even though they're desexed) - people who want to hunt with them etc etc.
  2. Can I just suggest people who want to contact people who have FTGH on Gumtree don't send them e-mails that make you sound like an absolute looney. We frequently have dogs FTGH on Gumtree but obviously they have all vet work done and all homes are screened but I tell you what we get around 2 emails a day that are just bizzare and come off like the sender is a complete mental. The dogs we have FTGH on Gumtree are private rehomings but we don't care that they're free because homes are fully screened - so not getting into a debate about that but just wanted to say about the looney factor and people will just hit the delete key.
  3. I had used the Woolworths brand of 4Leggs as they were smaller and didn't have so much 'stuff' on them that will come off in my pocket but either product are great.
  4. That's not normal entire dog or settling in behaviour. I would ask your rescue organisation to provide you with a Behaviourist.
  5. I don't take my dogs to obedience clubs because my experience is that they are boring with 30 minute heel patterns and other boring routines, they use training methods that are outdated, many of the trainers seem to have a lack of canine behaviour and put dogs in dangerous situations and then you have the dog owners that have little control over their dog. We used Luci Ellem Training here in Sydney for many years as they had a small class sized and a very varied class, the only reason we don't go anymore is that the classes stopped.
  6. Thanks :) he is a stunning pup in real life. Beautiful soft coat and soft nature and a really unusual colour. He's a Blue Fawn :)
  7. In this case I think it's pretty clear that they haven't contacted breed rescue at all. But yes, we are contactly all the time about Dane x's which we are not able to help in most cases as we struggle enough with resouces just for the actual breed and we are breed specific.
  8. Heya, probably 95% of the dogs we assist to rehome don't have papers.
  9. Maybe this is about your own emotions that your dog is potentialy nearing the end of its time here? I'm owned by a 12 year old Great Dane, YES she is VERY old for her breed - I'm proud of her and how old she is and how well she looks and how GREY she is. Yes she is nearing the end of her life - that's just fact. I think you're being over emotional about very matter of the fact comments - people are making a factual statement, they're not insulting or saying anything offensive. Your dog is 10, it is OLD!
  10. What an interesting looking chap! Good Luck with him :)
  11. So just to be clear.....they are pulling dogs out with an exemption from the clause but are not desexing them before they go to their new homes? If that is the case then I don't know how any one could support them and why they haven't been reported?
  12. No, but the OP was talking about culling merle's not the other colours in a litter. The numbers are declining thou. Actually this whole thread is confusing. While I don't object to breeders culling puppies that are unlikely to sell, what I don't understand is why you would breed with a merle then cull the merle offspring. Merle is dominant so one parent has to be merle for any of the puppies to be that colour. Surely in this case, simply not breeding from merles at all would solve the problem. A Merle breeder is simply a vessel in which to produce puppies. Anyway - Breeder don't cull Merles today (not that I know of) so it's a mute point. I'm not sure you understand the colour genetics entirely with coloured genetics - it's a never ending story.
  13. Merles are a very normal result of Harlequin Breeding programs, I don't know of any Harle breeders that haven't had Merles in their litters.
  14. Can I just point out the "used to" bit. Many Breeders decades ago used to cull Merles for a variety of reasons - it's not common pratice today and I don't know anyone who does it so it's a bit of a mute point. Merles are from Harlequin breeding which is overbred becasue you can ask $2,500-$3,500 for Harlequin and many of those scummy breeders wouldn't want to miss out on the $1,000 - $1,500 the Merles bring. The higher end Harle Breeders I know wouldn't cull for no goof reason.
  15. We're on our 2nd bag of Wellness Puppy for a Staffy x foster dog (9 months) and no issues. The dog likes it, haven't experienced any stinky farting or bad stomach noises, dog appears happy & healthy. I'm not sure it's any better or any worse than any of the other premium kibbles though given the dog was healthy already.
  16. How do they do desexing and vaccination, worming etc for $150?
  17. I had a licence to fundraise prior to being granted DGR- they will be accountable and have guidelines - so report them to the issues of the licence. If they are raising funds for specific dogs that are already with other rescues or not saved then it is fraud and they need to be reported to the Police.
  18. Huh? Seperation Anxiety training doesn't have to be long, expensive and it does have results.
  19. If they are not abiding by the 16D then would the person who has proof please report them?
  20. The seperation anxiety can be worked on and this seems to be the root problem? If you'd like to e-mail me at [email protected] I can send you a program to work with. In the dogs current mind frame I don't believe the dog is suitable for rehoming - let's be blunt....who wants a dog like that. A dog with seperation anxiety is still going to have issues with someone who is home most of the time - people still have to leave the house and the dog is still going to freak out yes?
  21. I tried one once on a 6 kilo dog.....did not work, epic fail LOL I had only tried it to test out the harness as it was new on the market. I just stick to heel training these days which works within a week with positive reinforcement. I'm glad you have found a tool that helps you walk your dog though.
  22. Sorry I'm not sure, the information I posted is all that I have been given. I did neglect to mention this is a paying job as well.
  23. Please Cross post. Sydney Animal Agency seeks 3 dogs... "We are urgently looking for three different looking character dogs that live together and could walk & pull on a lead with an actor for next week. They would like as least one of them to large". "They would have to be available on both Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 next week" "They just need to be different sized breeds, or different looking dogs that live together as they will need to be able to walk on lead & pull with a stranger". "They would probably love at least one with some coat". Please send photos to me: [email protected] and I'll send them on.
  24. So sorry to hear about your boy. RIP. What a wonderful age for a Dane, a reflection of the care and love he recieved from you.
  25. That would be the reason why you only take on dogs that are suitable for rehoming. If the dog is not suitable for rehoming then you return it to the rescue.
