With black nailed dogs, just pop them on their sides and look under the nail so you can see where you're cutting :) Dremels's are great for these kinds of things :)

Can he not go back to his Breeder? I'd be really worried for a breed like this to just go anywhere?

So the RSPCA are going to save them are they? With their 50% kill rate in most of their shelters? -
Ok To Advertise Puppies In The Classifieds?
sas replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in General Dog Discussion
Of course it is ok!!!! The owner of the dog/s will still screen potential families. It's simply a way to let people know you have pups and you get a bigger selection of people to choose from. -
People do get a bit funny about other people rehoming like how dare they but you know what, if the dog isn't bonded in that home then you could be doing the dog dis-service by keeping in that home.
-
I don't think so at all. My 3rd dog took me well over a year to bond with. I realised I was not spending enough one on one time with her and so spent some time doing walking, playing, taking her to work etc and slowly the bond increased and now 6 years later the bond is as strong as it is with my first dog (the 2nd dog is no longer with me). Never once though did I think about rehoming her. I made the decision to take her in for life. Too true, there are plenty of people that it takes a long time to form the bond and sometimes it does not come at all. I personaly believe it is nieve to believe that you will bond instantly with every dog (even though you may want to_ - just like people we don't always gell well and it's no ones fault.
-
Playing with a dog can help create the bond, as well as training. If all this has been accounted for then, I personaly believe they should feel no guilt about thinking of rehoming. Sometimes some Dogs and some humans just don't bond as much as they really want to. I'm sure they'll be a home where an emotional boond will occur.

Chewing can be fun, chewing can feel good, so if it isn't anxiety based it's just what it is. Crate at night is a very easy and simple solution.

We're also having a flea problem and haven't for many many years.

I have absolutely no maternal instinct, no desire to have child and do quite dislike a number of children I meet - this is just who I am just like it is who other people are who like children. I dont' treat my dogs like children, they aren't substitutes for the real thing and given I don't really like children that should be a pretty logical thing. I find it annoying how some people with children just can't get their heads around why other people don't want children and don't enjoy their company - move on :)

Hawkesbury Pound Area At Risk Of Flooding
sas replied to shmoo's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Apparantly someone who rang the pound today was told that they were going to put the dogs to sleep if they couldn't get them out. That sounded very odd and not right to me, doesn't sound like something the Pound would say or do? -
More serious cases of fear and phobias The topics turned to more serious cases of fear and noise phobias and the need for medications. The "old" medication standby for thunderstorms was a drug commonly referred to as "Ace," short for Acepromazine (Promace ®). This drug is not the best choice for this, because while it sedates, it is not anxiety-reducing (anxiolytic). While it takes away the ability to move (most of the time) doesn't calm the fears, in effect making them much worse over time. Read more about Acepromazine and Chlorpromazine by Terry Kelley CVT, CPDT.

If the dog is hot then having a tshirt layer is going to add to it. A stressed dog will usually pant as well. You may also like to research another jacket product called the Storm Defender. Neither the Storm Defender or the Thundershirt are miracle cures, they take time to work and on some dogs do nothing. So just make sure your expectations are realistic.

They sometimes don't make decisions until late this arvo so you'll probably have to call in then.

My dog has the same allergy with a bunch of others, we just manage the yeast, no medication.

Gosh I hope someone took the dog home and loved it, the loyalty it showed its Dad is just heart breaking.

My Dane gets ingrown hairs along his spine all the time, I make sure I brush that area often and remove the ingrowns. Looks like you were perhaps juts unlucky with this one?

We haven't had a problem with it yet, but I think that's because we do alot of rear end awareness, so then when we say Heel and walk backwards so do they. Could some rear end awareness such as pivoting exercises assist?
