Roughie Flying Price
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to Fatsofatsoman's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got a quote from Melb-Townsville for a ~10kg pup, for $320... I think that was Jetpets. So should be at least $50 less than that, depending on dog & crate size. -

My Son Got Bitten By A Dog

Totally agree Snoop, well said. Of course they want to be sure mistakes aren't being made, but like in Dee's example which I know has dragged and dragged with her seeing very little action... they are needing to take action. -

I really like GLM as a source of glucasamine, being a natural product. If you can find the Ziwipeak treats/food around, they are FANTASTIC -

Ooooh! Ive only ever seen pictures of them. They look like hansom dogs. Will she be a pet or do you have a flock for guarding? My flock consists of my husband and me, my older boy Zeke, and my other assorted pets - no livestock to guard but plenty of birds! My girl will be my pet and companion primarily. In the flesh they are utterly magnificent dogs, and those that I've met have the most stunning temperaments So hyped up I've actually got a list I'm keeping of all the places to take her :D Tara would love to see photos too! -

You have done the right thing Sujo, for everyone involved. I'm glad you asked about the property being secure, as well, obviously as you say the concern is that these dogs may do the same thing again. Hope your son makes a speedy recovery! -
Thanks I don't mind kids novels so I will look for it once I've finished my current series Oh, that's Silver Brumby Silver Dingo! Read it when I was a kid after finding it at the library. Quite high priced when I looked the other week to purchase it, as it wasn't one of her more well-known ones. She also did one with a cattle dog if I recall correctly. One of the newer ones - Thousandth Brumby it may have been. I love her work

Desexing Pros And Cons
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to Leema's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I too am interested to read about any studies about the pros and cons of desexing/desexing early. Sorry I didn't have anything to recommend to you Leema, many of the large dog breeders I have contacted feel waiting for maturity before desexing is the way to go, but I have yet to come across a great deal of scientific study on the topic. -
Getting Flea Products Off Ebay.. Cons?
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
They do different things. Comfortis is just flea control; it kills adults outright. Sentinel covers heartworm, intestional worms, and it sterilizes adult fleas so they do not breed and spread further fleas in your environment. Doesn't kill them outright, so you still need something to kill the adults. I combine Comfortis with Interceptor, which just does Heartworm and intestionals. -

Green lipped mussel is glucousamine - that's one of the things it has in it. Also chontroitin and omega 3s. A lot of the joint projects like Joint Guard and Sashas have these as well as MSM which reduces inflammation. I find with my customers, and as the owner of an arthritic dog, that different brands of joint health products have different results for different people I usually encourage customers to try a few different brands and they often find one that stands out for their dog. -
Let us know what you think when you read a Dog's Purpose... it really is amazing, it reminded me of the first time I ever read Black Beauty, so perfectly written Oh... Red Dog was one of the saddest things I have ever watched. It certainly had it's share of laughs, but I was just heartbroken after watching it, since Red never got a happy ending... anyway I am going offtopic. Has anybody ever read this one? http://www.amazon.com/Incredible-Journey-Sheila-Burnford/dp/0440226708/ref=cm_lmf_tit_20 It's what the movie Homeward Bound was based off of, seen the movies but never read the book.

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
I though I would pop in to say hi to everybody here I will be getting an Anatolian Shepherd Dog puppy as my next dog and I'm in the very much excitement stage :D At this stage I may be getting one early next year, but we will see what happens with timing as I am waiting for a girl with a really nice affable pet temperament Each day I lay out more plans... places I can take my puppy too while we're socializing, I keep driving by places and going 'Oh cool I have to visit there'! I have this list of dog friends and family to schedule playdates with, at work I see toys or a collar and think that would be perfect. I am planning to take at least a week off work and just take my new girl out every day, everywhere I go :D -
Which Dry Dogfood Does Your Dog Like Best?
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to Stitch's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just curious - how does his tummy handle regular changes in the diet? Just wondering because they all recommend a gradual change-over when changing to a new kibble. I do any change over two days - half half the first night of brand change, 75% new the second night. I work at a pet store so I have easy access to specials, so if anything good pops up like Advance bonus bags I always nab one then But I've never had any dramas changing over, Zeke being a Lab cross is pretty much cast-iron stomach! -
Question About De-sexing
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to german_shep_fan's topic in General Dog Discussion
While I wouldn't desex a puppy at 8 weeks, if a breeder was doing so, then I would probably ask them for their own personal reasons why. Like some people have shared here they may have had lots of poor experiences with people breeding after they have said they wouldn't. At least the breeder is still trying to do the right thing. I think the other aspect is that, perhaps not with breeders who have been in the loop for a long time, but to general dog owners - early dexesing has been driven home very hard. I myself didn't know there were any drawbacks to early dexesing until this year, thanks to all of the info that encourages desexing and doing so early. Eight years ago, my vet supported desexing Zeke at four months of age, so that's the age he was done at - it was only when I began talking to large dog breeders this year, and researching the issue, I found any mention of desexing after maturity. -

I am an Advance and Proplan fan, but I feed Zeke any of the premium diets - like Persephone if he wants his brekfast, he eats which brand is on special this month :D -
That last one sounds like a book I need to read! One I recommend to any dog love is 'A Dog's Purpose'. Absolutely incredible read, I loved it dearly and have reread it several times. A dog named Bailey gets reincarnated as different dogs, each time learning something crucial to his next life. The perspective is so utterly canine, you can really believe that's how a dog would think and feel. I don't have enough good things to say about this book

Thanks so much for that info Elsie that is really interesting! I would still do yearly health checks even if I opted for a three year vaccine of course; I had just never heard of them up here yet. I don't use the proheart needle with Zeke since I prefer to use Interceptor I think I am worried enough about parvo that unless my vet assured me that mine was a minimum-risk area, I would still go for the 16 week. I am getting my next pup probably next year, so this is all really useful info for me. Mystiq I had read a few accounts of collies and ivermectin sensitivity, is that what proheart vaccine uses? From this stage when I get my pup, I am thinking I'll be walking from 12 weeks after the second vaccine, though sticking to less dog-dense areas. And before then I'm planning all sorts of visits to friends and family of course, socializing is one of my favourite things with getting a new puppy

Letter To The Editor - Death Of Abandoned Dog
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to HollyMilo's topic in In The News
I believe in Karma, Rottie. It could already be happening - I put the story up on facebook and some friends are sharing it. It's a heartbreaking story to read, but the more people that know, the wider scope there is to act on it - that somebody might have noticed this creep and gotten his number, that somebody thinking the same might think twice, that somebody who witnesses the same may pull over and help a dog in the future. -
Wow Elise, new info for me (I must say your signature and its subject is absolutely stunning... lovely merle Aussie!) So M&G, you would advocate the 16 week for any parvo prone area? Because up here in the tropics parvo is particular rampant unfortunately, and to my knowledge most of my customers with new pups get the three-course of injections. I too, am interested in knowing about this suggested three yearly vaccine after the last puppy vaccine is complete. Is anybody sticking to a three-year plan? Has anybody had problems with this? Is this another instance of some areas being more parvo/disease prone than others?

I had a Jack Russell x Chihuahua, Jayne, who saved me from a snake. It was a small one, about a metre long, on the patio hiding behind a bag of mulch while I was gardening. I saw this white and tan bullet fly by me, then Jayne shot back out onto the lawn with a dead snake. He nailed it behind the head, killed it straight away and then took it away from me. He was such a brave little guy. Still miss him every day.

That's really interesting to read about, that some of you guys advocate leaving out the 16 week vaccination. I thought without that, the pup did not have 100% protection?

Staffy With Brain Tumour
Chris the Rebel Wolf replied to ChrisnLaura's topic in Palliative Care Forum
Hi Chris; Sorry I have no info on the type of drugs you're using. I just wanted to wish your and Toongah all the luck in the world. You obviously have a very special dog and she has a very special family, to ensure she gets this level of care. Best wishes from me and Zeke. -
Zeke pants quite excessively, did so when he was a pup, and now again that he is elder and slowing down some - because he gets the same burst of energy and thinks he can go all day! But then we live in a particularly hot climate.

Whether your dog is a banned type depends on what your dog actually looks like, rather than the breed.
