  1. This is horrifying. My heart breaks for those having to do these sorts of things. I too, would be refusing entry to any council worker to my property, but how long it that going to help with this sort of legislation behind it? Sooner or later they'll turn up with a police and a warrant I'm writing a letter now to the Victorian government.
  2. This was my first thought too. But I didn't know guide dogs could be privately trained like tdierikx's example. Whoever has trained this fog I completely agree the situation isn't safe for the owner.
  3. Can anybody tell me reliably, how many [parent] dogs are kept by Billabong Creek farm?
  4. http://www.news.com.au/national/prime-minister-julia-gillard-to-receive-a-cavoodle-puppy-from-partner-tim-mathieson-for-50th-birthday/story-e6frfkvr-1226150415252 Quote from that article: "They get stuck in to their breakfast which is home-made meatloaf mixed with milk powder" I feel sick.
  5. Anybody who breeds large quantities of dogs with primary regard to profit and secondary to nil regard to dog wellbeing and the betterment of the breed as a whole. That is my definition.
  6. I actively agree with this. What a horrible example to set to a country - I've never supported that *fill in the blank* PM but this is the final straw. Weather her or her partner it's wholly irresponsible.
  7. The yellow and the chocolate lab sitting and lying together - loooove that one! And oh, the line of Novas, that photo it to die for, the colour is just outstanding! Are they owned by a DOLer? Outstanding dogs, outstanding photo! The jumping Dobe... shot of a lifetime, woooooowwww that is incredible. Would love to see that in colour! Labby yellow pup, lying on the tiles with the wood fence background, that is so clear! Lovely, lovely photo. Oh I just saw the Novas all lying down, how obedient of them Now I've reached the felines... that blue point longhair, that is a magnificent shot, and the eyes are just so expressive. Incredible work there. Himalayan? The tortoiseshell with the yellow eyes, another stunner! That pose is awesome! The head shot of the Dobe; he has the most gentle face of any doberman I've seen! Overall I am very impressed and if you ever find yourself in Townsville in need of any birds/bearded dragons/mice/dog subject matters, hit me up :D
  8. What an awful thing for dog and owner to go through, best wishes, let us know when you hear back! Zeke and I have fingers & paws crosses for you!
  9. Somebody take lots of photos for me? It's a little far for me to travel, exciting as I would find it to attend! Rubystar, your signature is incredible, did you make that? Lovely, and lovely pair of dogs :D
  10. I am of this mindset. It would be nice to have the comfort of pet insurance, but to my mind it's not worth it on the offchance that you have a huge vet bill.
  11. *headdesk* I guess adopting would have been beneath the family...
  12. Is is a legal requirement to restrain your dog in the car. I know police around this area have been giving out warnings to customers of mine who have passed this info along to me, nobody that I know has been fined yet, but they could be if caught. You can get leads that plug into your seat belt as well
  13. Poor little mites. Weather or not one started it, they didn't deserve to be mauled to death. And if only one bit Red on the ear, did he then kill the second one without being provoked? He shouldn't have been left off lead, especially if he had a known history of being in fights, no matter who started it. This situation easily could have been avoided had Jim kept Red leashed and was realistic about his interactions with other dogs
  14. Comfortis takes four hours to be fully absorbed. Should be given with food, yup, especially for small dogs or sensitive stomachs. Vomiting is one of the side effects of the medication that was observed in trials, it shouldn't be ongoing. I daresay it was caused by eating the tablet without food; next time if you feed comfortis with food you hopefully won't get the vomiting
  15. Doesn't sound too alarming. If he's only just started puppy school last week, you may find he becomes more and more comfortable with other pups in time
  16. I'd speak to your vet before taking it up as a routine. Interceptor and valueheart use different chemicals for heartworm. Personally I would just recommend sticking to Interceptor and get rid of any worms that have been picked up monthly.
  17. All of these shoots red flags all over at 'Puppy farm'. Registered and responsible breeders rare concentrate on more than one or two breeds at a time, and the HUGE giveaway is nobody at her place. A responsible breeder is all too happy to show off their happy and healthy dogs, parvo on the shoes is not at all an excuse. You could set up a dip tray if you wanted to if you were really concerned about this. And how can she claim concern for parvo if she's selling vaccinated pups? If you have her phone number, PM it to me. I'd love to call her up and ask some questions. *narrows eyes* But from what you've said here, this sounds like a puppy farm all right. I would advise NOT buying from them unless you can go in person and see her dogs. Very suspicious sounding overall.
  18. Wow, you lucky thing :D Is Meo a male or female? Do you have a Snow Leopard breeding program there?
  19. I second that T, hear hear. Any proven dog attack should be dealt with - and I don't mean 'seize and kill problem solved' I mean, hold the owner accountable.
  20. This suggests a great form of civil disobedience. Everyone, call in a Labrador, call in a greyhound, call in a JRT, call in a boxer, call in a papered SBT or two, call in anything that can't possibly be identified as a pit bull. Keep them flooded with calls and make it clear that the 'standard' is a farce. What if somebody is actually trying to report a legitimatise threatening dog to the council in this scenario? I'm not saying I agree with the BLS support adds, but these hotlines are there for a purpose. Why not instead write a letter to the radio and the government explaining why their hotline should not make mention of specific breeds?
  21. Whew, wonder how that fire started? At least no lives - human or canine - were lost!
  22. Now that's not something I agree with, being a strict advocate against BSL. That's NOT the kind of thing the public should be hearing. I think everybody no matter what their dog breed is needs to behave responsible, and take responsibility for their dog's behaviour. More panic about pit bulls is definitely not what I want to see
  23. That is truly scary. I have no problem, whatsoever, with Lab x Poodles. Or Lab cross anything, or crossbreds in general (My boy is one, after all). I have a problem with unethical types promoting Labradoobles as a purebred, price it as such, peddle it as such, and claim that they never shed, fetch your paper, do the crossword for you, and select your winning lotto ticket.
