  1. Are you contacting them by email or phone? If email, did you want to share what you said in case the wording is putting them off and we can help you?
  2. Gorgeous shots! Love the Cav. 'helping' at the end, great photo
  3. Little cuties SM! Scottie has very healthy stealing habits lol Gorgeous shot Teekay. Had you not said it was a lake I would have thought it was your backyard after all this rain
  4. My Frenchie will climb on my lap given the choice but only really wants to look around and sit there quietly. She's quite nervy so I think it makes her feel safe. She likes a scratch and attention but cuddles only if we're both on the ground. If she's picked up or God forbid turned on her back she looks like a stuffed dog with all four legs stiff as a board and frozen in place. My Border Terrier soaks up any and all attention. She will sit near me and tap my arm with her paw when she wants a scratch and she'll happily lie upside down in my arms and stare in to my eyes while I stroke her belly. She does this thing I love where if I cuddle her when Im kneeling down she puts her head down and somersaults on to her back for a belly rub.
  5. I was going to recommend a Border too but I would say their coat is both easy maintenance and not. For months when its short its awesome but it then starts getting wild and woolly (if their coat isn't rolled to keep it short). Living on a farm they might prefer clipping but it does change the texture to slightly curly and soft over time. I put effort in to training Poppy and she has a large repertoire of tricks and nice manners, she's a great little dog. She lurves learning but if I get slack with training she starts to bark at things outside the house. They're an intelligent breed and they enjoy having their brain kept active whether it be trick training or enrichment so I would imagine if left too long to their own devices they may see behavioural problems (no different to other dogs though). Like any smart dog they'll learn bad habits just as quickly as good ones. I made sure to socialise her well and she loves all people and dogs with kids being her favorite!
  6. OMG the straight legs on those horses are shocking!! How is this happening?
  7. Lovely pattern there TK. These are at the front door and I'm loving coming out and seeing them every day
  8. Yes, it would be interesting if the results differed much with the extra dogs participating.
  9. I thought this was an interesting paper on puppy temperament tests.. There's a paragraph which talks about a number of puppies chosen for service work and even though they all met the criteria, they didn't all pass the final certification. But 14 of 15 puppies who didn't meet the criteria didn't pass the final certification. I presume that's means its safer to focus on the puppies you don't want, then know any of those left have as good a chance as the other to meet your needs? Another paragraph which talks about puppy irritability being relatively stable over time so a puppy with high vocalisation can show struggling and flight behaviour during restraint tests as a puppy and barking or growling during the threatening approach as an adult. Also sucking force in the neonate test was positively related to motivation and playfulness in the puppy and the adult test. There was also a suggestion that predictability increases with age so wait until 6 months before choosing a dog to breed based on the fearfulness trait. Anyway, hope someone else finds this interesting The Predictive Value of Early Behavioural Assessments in Pet Dogs
  10. One of the Frenchies rescued was for sale for $3000 in Brisbane and I believe it has been bought in the past week. Their reasoning was they're going to $6000 elsewhere! No history, genetic history unknown, age unsure, but not afraid to jump on the over priced Frenchie band wagon!
  11. Everyone's your best friend when food's on offer!
  12. @denali I LOVE that shot so much!! Was it planned or spontaneous? @teekay you seriously have the best imagination. I can't wait to see what you come up with the rest of the year.
  13. He is such a cutie and probably thinking how did I get so lucky!
  14. Did you check if the breeder had tested the parents of your puppy for avoidable health problems? When you say supposedly healthy, what was this based on? Re breeding, hopefully if you go this track again you have an expert go over your dog before breeding to make sure it's a good example of the breed structurally. There are some dogs out there which are very poor examples of the breed and shouldn't be used for breeding, hopefully you really do your selecting carefully. Temperament and health are very important too of course. Good luck getting your situation resolved.
  15. Another bird photo here too I was at Kangaroo Point in Brisbane today and had a visit from a young bush turkey. When I ran out of banana he plopped down in front of me to sunbake in the 30+ degree heat.
  16. I think it would be 15 minutes of walking\exercise...
  17. Here's a bit of info about growth plates and when they close in puppies. It explains why chasing a ball and letting them jump off couches etc can do unseen damage. Re 5 minutes per month of age rule, I always thought it was twice a day? Growth plate information
  18. Wouldn't it! I doubt I'll ever raise puppies but its so inspiring seeing what is possible. I'd go along to an Australian one but I think we'll be really lucky if that happens.
  19. After seeing how Starkehre raised her puppies I joined a Puppy Culture discussion page. So interesting and amazing the efforts these breeders are putting in to raise well rounded puppies. The author of the DVDs and books, Jane Killion is asking the following so I thought Id share and see if anyone was interested: Is anyone interested New Zealand Puppy Culture Seminar? A club is CONSIDERING hosting a Puppy Culture seminar, but they need to know if there is enough interest to fill a seminar. LET THE CLUB KNOW If you are interested in going - [email protected] The seminar is still not booked so you need to let them know if you are interested! The date would be Sunday, September 17, 2017 and the place would be NZKC Showgrounds in Auckland. I am judging a specialty Bull Terrier show in New Zealand and the club would like to piggyback this seminar – it’s a great opportunity and I hope it happens. This is a link to the website. You can buy DVDs or purchase online access either for a set period of time or a lifetime. I bought attention is the mother of all behaviours and its great! https://puppyculture.com/ Here's a link to a previous DOL discussion on the benefits of Puppy Culture:
  20. I love that photo, magnificent!
  21. My photo this week is a cute little fairy-wren I saw on a walk with Poppy. There were loads of them but they were flitting here and there so quickly it was difficult to get a good shot!
  22. What in the? That is the stuff of nightmares SM!!
  23. Ridiculously over the top but pretty cool!
