  1. Have you spoken to the breeder to let them know? Its hard to know whether it was missed or deliberately not passed on? Surely their own vet would have seen the problem when immunising and doing the final health check? Either way I think you need to ring and give them a chance to think about their options. Hopefully the dentist has written you a report so yu can share it with them. They may say they'll offer a full refund but take the puppy back or they may give you some money back, its hard to know. If a refund is offered and you don't want to give the puppy back you would probably be on your own with future problems though. It may be a hard decision to make and I wish you luck either way.
  2. I bet his heart was pounding when he realised how close you were. Obviously used to the smell of humans too!
  3. I like the other blog articles on that site, thanks for sharing!
  4. Gorgeous colours and what a cutie. I bet she loves it!
  5. Thistle, if you want any extra crate help, Susan Garrett's Crate Games DVD is great! This is what the DVD says: Allows anyone to produce: * Focus and motivation for work * A dog that can relax in his crate even while you work another dog * A phenomenal sit stay * A speedy and dependable recall * Distance skills for obedience or agility * Self- rather then imposed-control * A remarkable working relationship * Confidence while being proofed during any tough distraction * A dog that keenly offers responses when being shaped * ...and much more!
  6. Waaaah they're not in QLD. Love that crate...and the bed!
  7. That would be a sight to see! I bet he gains lots of attention, gorgeous!
  8. When I got obedience lessons a while back the trainer I went to (who has a purpose built training shed on her property) had two oodles of some kind as her dogs. They were completely obedience and trick trained and used in movies and ads etc. She uses them for distraction work when training and boy were they good. They knew when they were working and were very responsive to her so I think like any dog, they're as good as the effort put in to them. She at least bought from a breeder who health tests which was a blessing (and more than some purebred breeders do!). They were large but their coat was clipped in a way which made them look quite cute.
  9. Trick training and obedience can also be mentally exhausting outside of physical activity and will help make him an extra awesome dog :)
  10. Don't you just love toilet training! My first question is regarding your use of pee pads. Does that mean at certain times he is expected to toilet inside?
  11. When I was searching for my next dog (before finding this site) poodle crosses were high on the list of suggested breeds in the online breed calculators I started using. French Bulldogs were also featured highly and I've always preferred purebreds so I went down that track instead. There has to be a reason their popularity has remained though and the few I've met do seem to end up as lovely natured, easy to look after dogs. I'm sure the opposite exists too. Most photos of oodle crosses seem to be of the cute puppies, not always the odd looking adult dogs and the 'don't shed' push never seems to mention this just means the hair keeps growing and needs constant grooming! My sister did the same thing when a lot of her friends had oodles and she had seen them with the kids and liked their small size and nature. She set out to rescue one and after six months of calling pounds she got one (he was an escape artist). He is about 10 now, has survived three young kids and really is the most placid easy going dog. He is regularly clipped and the kids brush him inbetween. She wasn't looking for anything more than a dog which would be safe with the kids and determined the whole 'mix' would be suitable. She also got a Cav cross from the pound who has proved to be a lovely dog. When we meet up my dogs maaay not sell the purebred dog side of things as the Frenchie grunts and is a little nervy and my Border Terrier just wants to love on the kids and lick their faces
  12. There seems to be so many people advertising to house sit or board dogs at their own house nowadays, I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Knowledge or skills doesn't seem to be a huge factor!
  13. Would he chew on a stuffed kong once he woke up if you left one with him while he was asleep?
  14. Hi bbalj, did you get a chance to watch the video's Mrs Rusty Bucket provided? There's also lots of simple puppy training video's on Kikopup's YouTube channel. Here's a link:
  15. Maybe check out poly fill or hobby fill at spotlight as well? The bed has held it's firmness with this for years with the dogs playing under and on it too :)
  16. Have you tried splitting her meals so she isnt super hungry by dinner time?
  17. Did you check out the one I linked? It was XX Large cover and on sale at $118. I think westiemum calculated postage was $24? If you buy the whole bed, stuffing and all it will cost you a small fortune to post..
  18. I must admit I was thinking we've turned in to Orvis fanatics, people are going to be scared to ask about beds soon!
  19. Hey no laughter from me...I love them too! From the cheapskate amongst us (me) I was going to suggest you could buy the cover only and stuff it yourself. I also have the lounger bed which came with sausage shaped bags which are stuffed and zipped in the sides for support. When I want to wash the cover I just unzip the sides and pull the sausages out. (Boy that sounds weird!). I bought the stuffing from Spotlight for next to nothing and used an old pillow in the body of the bed. Really great bed which the dogs love. I got a medium which fits two small dogs but the big ones are pretty large. I checked the Orvis site for dog beds on sale and found this one (cover only) in size XX Large Normally AUD $254.30 but now $118.48 57" x 45½" outside dimensions Orvis Deep Dish bed Good luck either way :)
  20. You're so sweet Westiemum! I forgot to mention you can also make something similar to Salmon crack (lots of recipes on the web) which gets cooked. You can make healthy version and once cooled break it in to small pieces. You could pop some pieces in an empty soft drink bottle which can keep a dog busy crunching and trying to get the food out. Maybe test out what he does if you scatter his food in a large area which can lead to hiding it too keep him busy a while? If he likes chewing maybe you test out one of those hard-core tug toys you can set up for a dog to jump and play with?
  21. If he's looking to amuse himself in ways you don't like maybe take a look at this site for multiple video's covering puppy training tips on this site? He might be looking for cold or hard things to chew on as well?. Have you tried large meaty bones? A facewasher dipped in stock, twisted and frozen? His food frozen in a kong? His food frozen in a large ice cue (along with vegies and other things). If he's looking to rip and tear you could try putting his meals in boxes and taping them up. Once he gets the jist you can put boxes in boxes. You could try some kibble in an empty soft drink bottle (no lid) and let him play with it. Definitely any animals likes interactive games over toys which don't move so you'll always be the most interesting thing to play with (if there isn't another dog to take his attention of course). Training is a great way to keep an active little mind busy too and help creates a great adult dog. Even trick training is great fun for both parties :)
  22. LOL! I was thinking the same. What a camera! I hope you have the best of fun seeing what it can do in your capable hands :D
  23. I dehydrated meats for treats and to create my own version of kibble because I was a bit stuck what to feed too. Cut to the right size they work fine in food puzzle cubes. How about a big meaty bone if he wants to get his teeth in to something? Maybe pop some food in a cardboard box and tape it up well. Once he get's good at ripping through that you can put smaller boxes in bigger boxes too. Maybe a kids wading pool full of water or maybe sand with treats \ toys buried within?
  24. What do they mean no decision has been made about the dogs? What is there to even consider?
