  1. When I was a kid I was walking in our back paddock beside our creek I saw an 'injured' duck. It was flapping with what looked like a broken wing just enough to keep out of my reach. I kept following for probably two minutes trying to pick it up then suddenly it just flew away. I now know it was leading me away from ducklings or eggs and I fell for it just like I was meant to
  2. To know it worked you would have to spit in the dogs mouth and do no further training at that point. If you magically had the best dog ever then it worked. If your dog is badly behaved, it didn't. You can't say spitting works when you are also offering training afterwards. I would imagine if human spit was so magical the world would know about it by now, or we'd be using it on kids too :)
  3. That would be a great adventure!
  4. "I am a light hearted, laid back lady with a passion for happiness & helping people"..unless it involves her dogs hurting someone, then not so much.
  5. I've accidentally clicked teeth with my dog before and my aim in life is to never let that happen again!
  6. Awww duckies, how gorgeous in amongst the flowers!
  7. I've probably ruined all positive aspects of feeding raw because I warm it, and a chopped up chicken neck, in the microwave for 30 seconds. From my own perspective cold food has so much less flavour and smell than slightly warmed food so Im sure it brings a little more enjoyment to them.
  8. That little wave is just perfect in every way. Gorgeous!
  9. I can't believe the woman with the dogs took them home and had to be tracked down!! What a terrifying situation that must have been.
  10. Thats wonderful news. I wish the best of luck to you and your family with your new pup! I hope its not too stressful getting closure from your previous upsetting experience. If it does one thing it will make the breeder realise they can't take people for ride and Im hoping the vet gets a shake up too!
  11. What a sad story, Im so sorry this happened to you Personally I would be inclinded to push it with the vet a little more, unless of course the breeder did not do a vet check at all. The fact the vet didn't immediately deny doing a health check on the puppy is a worry. If they did how could they have missed a clearly very ill pup. You noticed immediately, they're educated to notice! Did the breeder supply paperwork from the vet giving the puppy a clean bill of health? Did the paperwork match the microchip number? The fact the Vet rang the breeder to call you and quickly 'fix' the problem made alarm bells go straight off for me. I personally wouldn't be trusting the breeder again, have you asked for a straight refund and vet costs back? They have put themselves in this position selling a sick puppy.
  12. Hmmm,I think I'll be relying on good old training to get the results I want!
  13. Oh no! Poor little things. Thank you for trying to help them.
  14. That's terrible! I hope you're able to find someone Kirislin.
  15. I was thinking (hoping) it may be a dog too, which is what the police suggested. I couldn't really picture what breed had fur which looked like hair though
  16. I use Big Dog pre-made raw and add a chopped up chicken neck. I have used Vets All Natural for years in the past but have been really (selfishly) happy how much easier premade raw has made my life. I've tried most of the different brands but this is the one the dogs love the most own the most. A box of 12 packs is about $22 so super cheap. I have seen it more expensive in different stores though. I split one between both (small) dogs so one box does 24 days. I should add they do get some extra food via training or I would consider upping how much they get. I pull one or two out of the freezer at night and they're defrosted by the next night. I do heat their meal up slightly so its not too cold straight from the fridge :)
  17. Ok mine is weird and gross so open at your peril! The dog found it behind some houses in a stretch of land which backs on to a small forest. I took some photos to the police station after high tailing it out of there but they said it was nothing to worry about. Anyone brave enough to look want to hazzard a guess what its from?
  18. I'm not sure about the breeds but regarding companionship you may find the new dog gravitates to the existing dog or the person who is in 'charge',ie the one mainly feeding, walking and enforcing the household rules. Would this be a problem if it happened? Hopefully that's not the case if they kids do training etc with her. Good luck with your choice :)
  19. They look like they're having so much fun together, especially with the box. Im seeing a box but I can imagine them doing the same with prey!
  20. What awesome progress, thanks for sharing the video Pers. Its good that it shows what can be done whilst only using a simple collar and lead!
  21. Gorgeous Swan, it's a long way for the grass to travel before it gets to its stomach! I love cute tongue out pics. I always want to touch them for some reason lol
  22. Gorgeous! They're such a regal looking dog.
  23. Teaching pup to handle being alone and being alone outside was a huge focus with my last pup. It was an opportunity to train the things I'd learnt in this forum after doing it all wrong previously and Im so glad I did! The foundations you lay now, when the pup is young and a learning sponge mean everything when they're older and an outside pen can be a place of awesomeness for a pup :) I used chicken wire and made a run which went down the side of our house then half way under our verandah. She was only small so it was plenty big enough for her and lots of enterainment (and learning) things. I had a small gate under the verandah made using Bunnings compost panels (best things ever) so was able to teach a sit and stay while the gate opened. Inside the pen was a tunnel with a tarp over the top, a kiddy pool with ankle deep water, a tub full of plastic balls which I would throw treats in, a tub full of sand for digging and on warm days I'd wet it and she'd dig and lie in in, a tub full of big dry crunchy leaves, a larger tub with a wooden ramp leading up to the top. Her crate was warm and cozy under cover and I had tug toys hanging off the clothes line. From day one I started with five minutes alone time and each day increased it until she was alone for hours. I'd taken two weeks off work and although I wanted nothing more than to be squishing and hugging her it was the best opportunity for masses of simple training. I gave her a big meaty bone only in the enclosure (with no bits to bite off) to help keep her occupied. She had fun in there and even when home and the gate was open she would often run in there and bounce off the tunnel in the middle of a zoomie or have a mad dig in the sand before running off. You can definitely make it a good thing if you use your imagination. These are the only photos I can find and it was middle of summer so very dry.
  24. I thought they were reasonable comments said from a practical point of view?
