  1. Ah I think I know exactly what you mean bugger! Thanks for the offer but yes a bit far just to try on pants I have water proof everything else, but just that really light rain that eventually soaks through normal pants on the thigh area during runs is annoying me!
  2. Could I run around in them comfortably anyway, say for training or general dog running? They aren't too stiff?
  3. As the title says, I need some waterproof pants for trialing, training, walking and running the dog and general wet weather shenanigans. I'm short legged so I don't want something that's going to be crazy long. Also comfortable enough to run around an agility course in. Hit me with your best options! Thank you.
  4. Gorgeous girl. The boys are precious too!
  5. Agree with all of the above. Definitely contact Aiden (Aiden2 on DOL). The problem is if no-one has "listened" to his growls of warning and just forced him to do something, an escalation to a bite is not all that surprising. Aidan3 now.
  6. I've never had it happen before this. Normally dogs express it themselves when they toilet, but unhealthy, runny poos can stop them from expressing naturally at the right time. If Ernie was being fed the wrong food when he was away from you there is a good chance that contributed to them being full and not expressing properly.
  7. Hopefully that's it! Give him a bath just incase any of that stinky fluid has stuck to his butt! A few months ago Nova had the runs for a few days, then had an exciting dream and expressed his anal glands in his sleep... in my room... on my rug... at 4am.
  8. I have no idea either because I've only drooled over one at a show, so completely useless information except big and b-e-a-oootiful! ...carry on
  9. If your heart is set on BMD or Newfoundland, I suggest as you did and go straight to some shows and see them in person and speak to their owners and breeders. If you have some questions or worries, take note of them and ask the people in the know!
  10. Ok I update my info about my Aussie Shepherd, birds like magpies he's fine and doesn't care about, but with wildlife like in Kirislins post he would need extremely secure fencing or he would be after them in a flash. I'm sure being raised around them though, they would get more used to them, but secure fences for sure!
  11. Regarding Aussie Shepherds, the amount of daily exercise you suggested would be great for an aussie, although you may find you end up just making a super fit dog. So you would also want to do some daily training as well for mental stimulation. So yes think if you can handle their wiley ways there, they can be the kind of dog that is smarter than you. I would actually call them a moderate shedder generally throughout the year, but they do shed heavily once or twice a year when they change coat. Birds: I know some Aussies will chase and even herd birds, but mine lets birds eat from his bowl... Oh barking, mine doesn't alert bark, or bark for no reason, but he will "talk" to me, say during training if I stop and he wants to keep working. It's quite good, my neighbours (normal suburban block) often comment that they wouldn't know I have a dog if they didn't see me walking him as he is so quiet. I do think he would bark, or find something fun to do though if he was bored, I run/train him daily. They may be larger then what you are looking for too, and they would probably escape without good fencing. As others have said, fencing is the main focus.
  12. Yea have a look in his ears and mouth again now, 2 weeks is enough time for something to grow. Give them a sniff if you aren't sure what you are looking at, healthy ears shouldn't really smell at all. Have you noticed him scratching anywhere or rubbing anything?
  13. If it's that bad I would be going to the vet tomorrow. Probably hold off bathing with any shampoos or soaps etc too until you can get him vet checked. Hopefully it's not the wound. Have you checked his ears? Lab ears can be prone to infection and can get pretty stinky.

These threads in the 101 section aren't often visited. You might get some more replies if you start your own thread in the either the Health and Training or Puppy section That diet is not a complete diet for a growing puppy, especially not a giant breed mix. I suggest posting in one of the sections I mentioned above and flagging down a Giant breed person who might have some suggestions for some appropriate foods.
  15. Sounds about normal. Mines $62 for an initial consult, cheaper for any follow up consults for the same issue.
  16. I use the tablets, they are just plain heartworm only tablets and aren't ivermectin based (collie breed here), but I believe they have been discontinued now, so am actually on the look out for an alternative. I wouldn't use the injection in my dogs breed without having him MDR1 tested first at least. Possibly not anyway because of the above reasons.
  17. My Aussie tried to put himself into a mini poodles unoccupied soft crate today Didn't quite fit.
  18. I suggest adding a "sometimes" answer to question 2, and a "never" answer to question 3 Is your dog crate trained? Yes When (age) did you crate train him/her? As soon as I bought him home at 8 weeks Do they still sleep in their crate now they are older? If not where do they sleep? Sometimes, always if we are travelling or not at home, sometimes he'll pop himself in it to sleep if it's up at home. If it's not up or he doesn't want to go in (or I don't put him in for some reason), he sleeps on the floor or on his bed in my room or in the lounge room (the door is open and he goes where he wants pretty much, but generally chooses to sleep near me) When did they stop using the crate? As above he still uses it periodically now at 2 years old, but he slept in it every night up until he was considered "trustworthy" at night around 8 months old. Where is their crate in the house? Loungeroom, was in the bedroom at night when he was a pup. Does your dog use the crate only for sleeping? No, he mostly uses it now at training club and shows actually. It's generally in the lounge room as he is sent to his crate when I have visitors to calm down and not get over excited. I still play a lot of crate games with him too which help with our training. It has a few different purposes.
  19. I wouldn't simply because the science behind Nutriscan still hasn't been released as a scientific publication yet. The website says they are preparing the data for that to happen, well I would wait for that to happen and be peer reviewed. LOL right, so instead of using a test created by the worlds leading animal scientist....do an elimination diet incorrectly like most people do. I know exactly who she is, and just because she's an Animal Scientist with a reputation does not mean she is above needing to get her work peer reviewed like every other reputable scientist in the world. The fact that she has actually put this out to the public before getting this done is a bit of an issue in the scientific community and could tarnish her reputation IF the results do not live up the hype. I've done elimination diets very correctly the past thank you very much and I highly suggest to anyone doing it to do them in conjunction with a vet or even better a veterinary nutritionist, and no not just someone with a nutrition certificate. I would also question her being "The worlds leading Animal Scientist" I can think of a few others I study that would top her.
  20. A friends dog was stolen from their fenced and locked backyard. The police got involved when they were anonymously tipped off to where it was, and the police were able to get their bitch back for them. The police believe the dog was stolen for breeding purposes from other animals and evidence found where the dog was found.

  22. I wouldn't turn down a job to show - you still have Sunday's. Plus work pays for show entries. There are shows on Mondays sometimes too.
  23. Remember with an elimination diet you need to stick to just one novel protein at a time. Keep in contact with your vet to see how long they recommend sticking to each protein for before adding new ingredients or switching. If she currently gets roo, chicken, beef and tuna then that rules all of them out. Try the lamb if that's the easiest for you to get. She might not react to it at all. Other options that might be easier to get could be venison, goat or turkey. Have you got any local butchers near by that you could go in and have a browse?
  24. I only do shows pretty rarely, when local ones come around, but I'm out training for trials (obedience and agility) formally at club twice weekly, and will hopefully be competing in them pretty soon, and will go to as many as I can. But work still comes first, the recent shows I've done were 3 day shows, I did the two days and didn't enter the 3rd as I worked instead. I also just re-enrolled back into uni, so uni will also come above dog events. It's the same as anything you need to figure out your work/life balance.
  25. I know a Vizsla who has some anxiety issues but I can say with certainty it's the owners fault. They pretty much refused to leave the dog alone until it was 18 months... I know some other Vizslas who are awesome, but those dogs I know all do heaps of dog sports regularly. I don't personally know any "just pet" ones (apart from the one with issues).
