  1. And for those saying they fit their harnesses loosely, wouldn't that actually make it worse? As the strap across the shoulder would sag down across the shoulders? The majority of dogs in No Pull harnesses on the streets are in ill fitting loose harnesses that twist, sag and still allow the dogs to pull into them.
  2. Jumabaar what do you think of the Y Front Harnesses with the front attach on them like the Ruff Wear ones? They seem to give full range of shoulder movement but obviously if the dog pulls ahead the dog would be turned towards the owner.
  3. Some lady walked into the dog park yesterday without warning with a possum in her arms... I feel like that's dumber than the person who was walking the Guinnea pig on a leash past the dog rings at a show the other weekend.
  4. I have one of these. I love it. But I've only used the front attach once just for experimenting as my dog doesn't pull. I am interested if these harnesses have any impact on movement though when used on a pulling dog as they have the Y front. I really like them.
  5. Well at least he thought about it That happened once with Novas Kong Wobbler when it got stuck in corner. Came home to it in a hole instead of a corner...
  6. We literally stepped on one during a jog last week, turned a bend and it was hanging out on a path. I didn't see if it bit or not before it slithered away so rush to the vet for a test. Thankfully negative, but we were apparently the first of the season in.
  7. If you clicked one more link (and I linked it earlier in this thread) you would have come to this page http://www.parasitesandvectors.com/series/bravecto that shows more studies including an MDR1 study done in collies.
  8. I use empty fenced dog parks all the time for training. If someone's in one of them alone it's probably for a reason, please don't just open the gate and let your dogs straight off and allow them to run up to said dog. Just ask first and give the person enough time to leash their dog and exit if they so wish, or they might be perfectly ok with letting their dog play.
  9. I'm bought a new food (for us) to try out this week. Meals for Mutts (Performance Formula). Australian company, grain free, chicken free, high protein, so all the things I need for my dog plus the added bonus of being Australian. Was about $130 for 20kg.
  10. Sorry I didn't get a video up! But I have to update now, I stopped training the finish left for a while and decided to work more on rear end awareness. He was already good on pivoting, but we started on walking backwards and backing up steps and various objects. Well low and behold I now have that perfect flip finish!! I also have some lovely backwards heeling now, so we could enter some Rally O
  11. I'm not sure if they will be old enough for it, but my pup ended up with with worms when Drontal liquid didn't bloody work on mine even at the correct dosages and times, so the vet gave Fenpral tablets, but he was over 8 weeks at the time.
  12. Currently the yellow wiggle is a girl called Emma but the 'original' was Greg...could always just call him 'Wiggle' though :) Then you could get an Irish Setter and call him Murray!
  13. I thought that pomegranate would be fairly unappealing to a dog, seeing as it's got a big gross outer bit. Nope damn dog ate all of them too... He even carefully picked some kind of berry from a tree that had thorns, using his tongue like a giraffe. Actually Lemon or Lime is probably the best option. If they pick a few off once they get the taste they tend to not like them!
  14. My last house had a wide variety of fruit trees. Damn dog climbed them like a goat and ate every piece of fruit he could find If there's a will there's a way!
  15. Love Trevor! For some reason I can just imagine "TREVOOORRRR" Being yelled out after a naughty lab
  16. Yea, anyone who suggest squealing had never met my puppy! Squeal, or yelp and the eyes would widen like he's on drugs and just come back for more fun
  17. Oh one very important thing! Make sure no one in the house is using their hands and feet as play things and actually encouraging the biting! And if you notice a part in play where pup gets over stimulated and goes for the bite stop BEFORE then.
  18. Yep these are the only things that worked on mine too. Mostly the thumb thing. If you go the ignoring route, it was complete ignoring, as in the humans needed to get up and removed themselves from the room, as moving puppy into crate/outside even via a dragged leash was enough attention to reward mine. All my pj and tracksuit pants from the first month of having my puppy were thrown out as they had holes in them from puppy teeth... LAND SHARK
  19. You don't need to wait for a breeder to advertise a litter Asking here for some breeder recommendations is a good start. Hopefully some people in the know of the breed might pop by and give you some names of recommended breeders to look into. I sent emails to breeders telling them about myself, what I had researched about the breed, what I could provide for a future puppy and my plans for the pup (Companion and sports), and asked if they had any plans for future litters. I did get some great replies, a lot had no current breeding plans but offered advice on other breeders, unfortunately others just got completely ignored, so if that happens don't feel downtrodden. I also went to local shows and met breeders and their dogs in person. I actually ended up meeting my boys breeder at a show. Their dogs appealed to me, their temperaments were lovely, talking to her I liked their breeding ethics. I also had some other people recommend that breeder to me as well. They didn't currently have a litter ready, but they did have a litter planned, so I did have a bit of a wait (About 10 months), but it was worth it, and the pup I ended up with is exactly what I was after.
  20. Yea, Nova gets the runs on even the smallest bit of chicken, chicken based food. I haven't heard much about other people having problems though!
  21. Aussie Shepherd (I personally like this trait, but it would be difficult for people not prepared) They need a job to do, and they are smarter than you. If you don't give them one, they will find their own, and you might not like it!
  22. And increasingly persistent phone calls from your local vet with predictions of dire behavioural issues if you don't. Friend of mine with her first show dog went through this. "Oh yes, you can still show him if he's desexed" she was assured. Not at that time you couldn't. I've had that one. Even after talking about going to an upcoming show, I got told just the other day that he probably has quicker reflexes because he's intact and desexing would help that... He's also a performance dog, if that's true at all don't I WANT quicker reflexes?? Yes, get used to deflecting about being an irresponsible person keeping your nuts on your dog! You sound like you'll do just fine. I hope you'll post up pictures when you get him. I too love dallies
  23. Regarding the Aussie Bulldogs/Bosdogs have any of the groups succeeded in making the longer snout? I ask because I know a few people that bought these dogs previously that still needed soft palate surgery... I don't know if thats "normal" for the breed, but if it is I wouldn't call that a success.
  24. I agree with what TSD said. My intact male doesn't have any aggression or behavioural problems but does seem to be a target for other males, and not just intact ones. My boy loves to mark (never inside or in inappropriate places), but I also use that to my advantage in training. If he's walking nicely on leash for a block or so I'll release him to mark on a favourite tree. Again though, my desexed boy was also a big marker... There is a thread going in general already about dog parks, I'm not a fan of them anyway for reasons many people state in that thread. But if you must be sensible, learn to read dog behaviour well, avoid peak hours, have a great recall, be aware that other males might not take to him, and yes some people are stupid enough to take bitches on heat to dog parks...
