  5. Nice to hear something postive. I had to laugh at this comment though. "LincolnLover Are you sure the pit bull didn't pull the woman away from the tracks because he wanted to eat her -- a plan that was frustrated y the injuries he aninal suffered"
  6. Reading the posters comments was interesting.. every body wanting to know the breed of the dog.
  7. Yep another stupid question.... whats a fur code?
  8. Wow that was realy interesting. Thanx for sharing.
  9. Just adding one thing you might not have thought of. Giant breeds have a very short life span. My mum used to breed and show Irish wolfhounds the average lifespan is around 8 years or less. We did have one live to 12 but she was small for a wolfhound. Growing up our dogs were part of our home and I learnt to walk as a todler by holding onto a wolfie. Mum has many photo's of me and my brother asleep ontop of a doozing wolfhounds side. They seem to know when to be gentle (just watch out for those wagging tails they are like whips  ). They are lovely natured dogs and are protective of their people but not items (house hold) though their size usualy does scare most people away. I grew up with them and have a soft spot for them they are just big sookies.
  10. OMG those poor boys, glad there getting looked after now I bet its like heaven for those two.
  11. I agree most young males (even older ones) get tough dogs and reward tough behaviour. Im young myself only 23 but alot of people my age are incredibly stupid with animals if I was a breeder I would be a bit wary of selling a bull breed to a young male.
  12. Most favourite; Bull terrier.. I like something thats a bit head strong (must remind me of myself hahaha) and there just beautiful Least favourite; Maltese.. so hairy and yappy and crazy. I don't realy like scruffy dogs either. I like nice clean smooth coated breeds.
  13. I have no doggies at the moment but I realy want a Bull Terrier and one day in the distant future I would love a Great Dane or a Chinese Crested. All completely different dogs  .
  14. It is name we like and would like all our puppies to be known as. It is like a surname but it goes in front of the dogs name/s If the name you are granted is Oakway all your puppies will have this in front of the name you apply for. Oakway Dress Fth Boys Oakway Swing Time Oakway Centre Court The dog must always be entered in shows with this official name and registration number along with it's sire and dam. You can call the dog any name you like at home but any official reference must always be the dog registered name on it's registration papers. :) Thank you :D
  15. Im new and learning so this is probably going to be a stupid question but whats a prefix?
  16. She was 9 weeks old. I reported him to the RSPCA by phoning the head office in sydney and then emailing them a formal statement which had everything I knew about the breeder including statements from my vet and their number. I also contacted the council and informed them he was selling puppies unmicrochipped and unvaccinated. I didn't think about fair trading. I never rung the breeder up complaining and whining like a idiot child I gave him the chance to be a decent human being (I know theres no excuse for ignorance but not everything is in a persons control). I'll admit I was an idiot and made a stupid, stupid mistake but I did everything in my power and knowledge to stop the breeder from doing this again.
  17. I agree with you there. Shit happens some times and can happen no matter who you get your dog from. Health checks are not 100% guranteed but are better than nothing. However the next pup I get will be registerd and I will ask for all of the documentation of the health checks, vaccinations etc because not all registerd breeders are ethical breeders. It is still horrible to sell animals like they are white goods. I've seen dogs adverised on gumtree who's price was negotaible or will swap for an item of eqaul value. Or even pet stores who have puppies on sale for half price.
  18. Its not just about the money its about informing the breeder. If the breeder doesn't know they have bred a dog with a genetic disease they think they will be fine to keep breeding from the same lines. I contacted the breeder as my vet told me Cali would've had parvo up to 1 week before I got her. I didn't know her usual behaviour but her breeder did. She was a puppy taken away from all that she knew and in extreme agony to boot. He still had two of her litter mates left and who even knows if Calli's parents where immunised. He was a neglectful bastard and the RSPCA agreed when I rung them. Id just like to see his face when they come knocking on his door. And to that Gemini person (If your stil reading). Do you ever go into pounds? The majority are cross breds and the actual (not BYB purebred) pure bred dogs that are dumped there are usualy there because thier owners put them there without telling the breeder first. Most ethical registerd breeders keep their name and number as a secondary contact on there pups micro chip so they find out if something like that happens. Ethical breeders do back yard checks and get people to sign contracts so there pups don't end up dying "with their head in a bowl" yes it can still happen but at least they take measures to try and ensure that it won't. You hand them over willingly to the first person who turns up with $. Theres the difference for you.
  19. You can get bad eggs in registered breeders but seeing as I recently got a dog off a byb who was not microchipped, vaccinated or wormed (despite being advertised as such) had a massive worm infestation (to the extent that she was vommiting 20cm long live round worms) which masked the early warning signs of parvo which niether me or my vet caught onto until it was to late. I had her for THREE days before the vet told me it would be best to put her to sleep . Then I tried to contact the byb to tell him what had happend.. and he refused to answer my calls and messages. I think a decent human being would answer my calls but he obviously did not care about his animals. If I go through a registerd breeder I have piece of mind by way of the health checks and also most breeders are happy to sign a contract saying that if something goes horribly wrong and the vet says it was the dogs breeding I get the money back I paid for the dog. With the money we spent on my puppies vet bills I couldve brought a healthy vet checked registerd puppy. But despite all of that I watched my puppy go through excruitating pain which still makes my blood boil when I think of her breeder.. So long story short f**ck bybs and stupid ignorant people who do not get there puppies vaccinated or are to cheap to spend a measly $7 for a wormer... if she was at least wormed she might have made it.
  20. Regardless of breeds you do get dogs that are more anxious, agressive, submissive or laid back in every breed. Its up to the dogs owners to recognise this and correct any bad behaviours. No dog wakes up one morning and thinks... Hmmm I might just go bite someone. There are warning signs before this happens and the owner either didn't recognise them, care or rewarded them. Ive met alot of big sooky bull breeds but ive also met alot of pyschotic chiuauas (sp?) (sorry to any chi owners out there) should we ban chiuauas because of my experience? Also mixed breeds are a best guess at times so who even knows if any of these dogs where bully breeds but if they look the part and you don't have proof of there heritage a dog can be labeld a dangerous breed.
