http://m.theage.com.au/victoria/child-mauled-rushed-to-hospital-after-dog-attack-in-melbournes-east-20160215-gmueop.html By LIAM MANNIX A dog has mauled a young child on the face in Melbourne's outer east. Paramedics were called to a suburban house in Woori Yallock about just before noon on Monday with reports the child had been attacked. When the arrived they found the youngster with wounds to his face and head. He's been rushed to the Royal Children's Hospital in a stable condition. The child sustained serious facial wounds, and may need plastic surgery, Channel 7 reported. The dog, an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, belonged to a family friend who was visiting the Woori Yallock property. Yarra Ranges Council say it impounded the dog at the request of the owner, who is believed to be a friend of the toddler's family.

Yes she is in Melbourne. :)

Yep. :) A medicine specialist is who you want to see. The person I'd recommend is Linda Fleeman. She is awesome.
-
Sounds like her insulin dose is still too low.
-
Have you seen a medicine specialist? That would be my first suggestion. She is probably leaking urine because she is dribking so much water due to her high BGL. A basic raw diet of meat and vegetables (no carbs) seems to help. Sometimes you need to try different types and doses of insulin. Are you testing BGL at home?

What the hell??? Those dogs should have been PTS. The owner has proved that they are incapable of containing their dogs and being responsible. How many more dogs do they need to kill? Absolutely ridiculous.

Why Are Greyhounds Always Suggested As "no Fuss" Dogs?
*kirty* replied to Salukifan's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Greyhound lives with cats, foster kittens, bunnies, guinea pigs and even possums. She is bombproof around all of them. However a bunny running around a paddock or a bird taking flight will trigger her prey drive every time. She will bark and whine and become fixated on whatever it is. She has never raced, never even trained to race. I do think though that Greyhounds make great LOW fuss dogs. Yes they need attention and exercise, but the majority are insanely lazy and happy to chill out at home. They need to be kept on lead when walked (but so do many other dogs), they are usually great with kids and other dogs, and they are clean and low shedding. Most are happy to snooze the day away as long as they have a comfy couch to do it on. -
Something like 80% of Bulldogs have hip dysplasia so it wouldn't surprise me.

I suspect the long delay between puppies may be the cause of death, rather than the oxytocin.

I don't like cats around my yard either. They kill the native birds. So I go out with my shovel and chop the cat's head off. Sometimes they don't die straight away and thrash around so I smash them again with a shovel. Stray cats are a pest so it's OK to despatch them.

Scabby areas can glow a bit, but not like actual ringworm. I have fostered two dogs with demodex, they were treated with daily oral Moxidectin. Cleared up perfectly. :)

Bad Reaction To Anti-Inflammatory
*kirty* replied to Onlinemissy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn't rely to heavily on what you read online about Turmeric. For all means, try it, but if the dog is in pain it needs proper pain relief. Arthritis is horrible and can be very painful for the dog. So many people seem to accept it as a normal part of aging and ignore it. Older dogs need quality of life, not quantity. My oldies with bad arthritis were on cartrophen injections, rimadyl and glucosamine. Anything to keep them comfortable. -
There definitely aren't signs saying not to swim. There are signs about the water and signs saying no diving. There are also signs saying not to swim directly after heavy rain due to water pollution. Also, dogs are not allowed to swim in the lake. They are allowed to swim in the creek though.

Help! 10 Week Sheltie Puppy With Episodic Ataxia

Could be pain.

I personally prefer to use F10 ointment and F10 spray but it can be hard to find. If you can order it online, it's great stuff! F10 ointment on the lesions once per day and spray F10 everywhere, you can even spritz it on the dog and rub it through the fur.
-
Also, how was the ringworm diagnosed?
-
Get some Canestan laundry rinse from the supermarket and use it on all laundry. The spores can live for over 12 months and it is very contagious so you need to wash your clothes and bedding too. Use bleach to mop the areas he frequents and outdoor areas etc. I use F10 to disinfect soft fabrics. Definitely use Canestan on the lesions and you can also use betadine. Washing daily with Malaseb is too much. I only do twice weekly.

Sounds like the dog was DA and should never have been offlead.

Regarding Vaccination And Socialization .
*kirty* replied to Dewclaws's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a breed that is prone to shyness and timidity. I personally believe it is better to get pup out and about as soon as possible to maximise social skills. My litter started coming to work with me at 5 weeks of age, and my own puppy has been going everywhere with me ever since. I avoided public parks and beaches and also general vet clinics. -
If it were my dog, I would stick with the steroids. She isn't going to live long enough to suffer the consequences of long-term steroid use. And if they improve her quality of life, that is the most important thing. I'm so sorry you are going through this xx

http://www.9news.com.au/national/2015/12/16/16/48/melbourne-woman-received-150-stitches-after-cheek-was-ripped-off-in-dog-attack Melbourne woman received 150 stitches after cheek was ripped off in dog attack A Melbourne woman has undergone extensive surgery after her cheek was ripped off in a dog attack. Emma McKnight, 37, was walking her dog in Frankston North on Sunday morning when another dog, believed to be a pit bull, launched itself at her dog. "The dog must have just come out of the gate to go for my dog, so I shielded my dog, and it latched onto my arm at first, lock-jawed onto my arm," Ms McKnight told 3AW on Wednesday morning. "I tried to get it off and it went to my face and ripped my cheek off my face." Police allege that Ms McKnight and the dog's owner were involved in a dispute prior to the attack. Ms McKnight was taken to Frankston Hospital, where she received 150 stitches. "I'm a little bit sad but the nurses and doctors have been really good - and the plastic surgeon - so hopefully it will repair okay," she said. Frankston Council said the dog was unregistered and was seized by council officers an hour after the attack. It is currently being held in a secure animal protection facility. The dog's owner, a 34-year-old man from Frankston North, was arrested by police and is expected to be charged with assault and assault with a weapon. Despite the trauma, Ms McKnight is thankful her dog survived the attack. "I don’t think [my dog] would have survived an attack from the dog - it was very vicious. I wouldn’t even call it a dog, it was a creature," she said.
