Mary - tripping me up. Every. Single. Day. Bindi - jumping the baby gate in my room. Every night I pile stuff in front of and on top of the gate - she still gets out. Little bugger.

Tetanus Shot After Dog Licked Open Wound?
*kirty* replied to KerryTy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had to have a tetanus shot when I stabbed my toe on a piece of metal. And when I was bitten by a dog a few years later, the doctor asked me if I had had a tetanus shot recently. But when my daughter was bitten by a dog last year, the doctor never mentioned it. The same doctor also said antibiotics weren't necessary. -
You can't do anything to prevent it, other than keeping them separate. I'm not sure what you want people to say - you asked advice, everyone gave you the same answer, but you still want another bitch.
-
Keeping two entire bitches together is even more likely to cause issues. Get a male pup and desex it or desex the older bitch.

I would go a Vizsla. My experience with both breeds has been that the Vizslas are a little bit more sensible lol. Both breeds will need a lot of mental stimulation as well as exercise. Also remember that you can't run with large breeds until they are fully grown.

Diabetes insipidus is a totally different condition to diabetes mellitus (which is the one you are probably thinking of, where the dog/person/whatever needs insulin etc).

It doesn't restrict his growth as such, it delays closure of the growth plates which can make the dog taller but leaner. The males look more feminine in my opinion. Bone density and the angles of joints can be negatively impacted.
-
Male or female? May you could easily leave entire. Female I would desex at 2 years. Early desexing is definitely not better, especially for giant breeds. They need hormones to grow correctly and achieve correct bone density.

I only watched a smidge of this. dont they teach dogs to walk at heel anymore? I think some of them were very young/green dogs, barely more than puppies really Agreed - a lot of youngsters at the beginning. I really enjoyed watching the relaxed obedience and bite work by the experienced dogs. I'm pretty sure the dogs are meant to charge out in front. They are meant to be protecting the police or searching or sniffing etc.

DD I posted about her a while ago, I was having a lot of trouble bonding with her. But it's all fallen into place now and I adore her.

It's been 5 months since Rupert left us. I still miss him so much. I feel very lucky to have his half sister now, but nothing could ever replace Rupert.

The water tested fine. No blue green algae. Birds are fine.

Finish the course of injections. You need to get the mites under control completely. As pers said, it is also extremely important to make sure the dog is as healthy as possible. Good diet with raw meat, maybe some added fish oil or coconut oil etc.

New Things Happening At Petrescue...
*kirty* replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I hand raise kittens all the time. I have three tiny babies here now. Vet work costs around $200 each, 2 tins of formula costs about $40, super premium food $50. -

Please let me be clear, I am not bagging them nor do I believe they are doing anything wrong. I have no doubt that any extra funds will go where it is needed. My issue is claiming that it will cost approx $1000 to raise two kittens. -

That is not what they have said. "We are hoping to raise $1000 to help cover the costs of food, vaccinations, microchips, desexing, flea and worm treatment." -

The brindle Borzoi is stunning. I've never seen one like that before.

West Puppy - Eye Discharge, Suspected Dry Eye?
*kirty* replied to idealgrind's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Puppies have lower tear readings than adults, it is very hard to definitively diagnose dry eye in a puppy unless tear readings are pretty much non existent. Westies are a breed that is prone to dry eye though so it is worth monitoring. At this age I would be thinking it is more likely a blocked or lazy tear duct. Keep the eyes clean and gently massage the inside-lower corner of the eyelid. Using saline to clean the eyes is not ideal, especially if the eyes are dry. Use plain water or even better, cooled Calendula Tea. It is a natural anti-inflammatory so will help soothe inflamed eyes. If it doesn't improve, please see an eye specialist. It is never a good idea to muck around with eyes. -
Other breeds to consider: Mini or Toy Poodle Bichon Yorkshire Terrier Cavalier
