  1. What don't you disagree with kirty? I said a few things. Everything, or just some things in particular? I disagree that most pedigree brachy dogs are healthy. All brachy dogs have brachy syndrome. They all have some degree of airway disease. And I disagree that most breeders are putting a focus on fixing these issues. Because breeders know that if they breed a Frenchie with a longer snout, they will be laughed out of the show ring. As a vet nurse the ones you see are at the vets for a reason. The % presented here are 50% IF brachy breeds are bred according to the standard, they should have no problem - according to an experienced all breeds international judge who carefully explained the standard to me. I have been breedig dogs for better than 40 years and I very much doubt that I have enough experience or talent to interpret the standards and breed healthy dogs. So, I would never try. Some things are just too hard. Yet people who have been "in dogs" as they say, for a year or two are breeding frenchies and pugs. I have friends with (show) pugs which run around like Ferraris on speed!! Well and carefully bred by experienced breeders. Bulldogs' health has improved enormously over the past 20 years. And please remember, you can't just say "expelliamus" and fix everything in a generation. If you want long noses and use We see dogs for eye problems. The fact is that every brachy dog has BOS. The degree may vary, but it's there. I know there are a few brachy dogs running around with good airways but they are the minority. And again, as long as breeders convince themselves that there isn't a problem, nothing will ever be done.
  2. Pia (Greyhound) has had about 3 baths in the 6 years we have had her lol. The IGs get bathed when I feel like it (not very often). The other two are more high maintenance. The Stand Poodle get clipped every 8-10 weeks and gets a bath at the same time. The OES gets a bath every 3-4 weeks when her coat is long, but less often when clipped. I will only clip her once a year. :)
  3. Is she only eating chicken? Plain chicken meat on its own is not a healthy or balanced diet.
  4. If you have to desex her, I would get a specialist to do it or at the very least get a specialist to work out an anaesthetic regime for her.
  5. That's a worry. Poor little Amber. Fingers crossed it is nothing too serious x
  6. How god damn stupid is the woman who owns the Dane. STOP LETTING IT OFF THE LEAD!! Far out.
  7. I do 8 weeks, 12 weeks then 15 months of age.
  8. Its funny you say that as I am yet to see a dog inside my local two Bunningsk store since they have been allowed. That's because they are not allowed in unless carried or muzzled. Shortly after the dogs were allowed into stores, a child was bitten. So they changed the rule.
  9. Good luck telling my Greyhound or Iggies that they don't need coats! The Std Poodle and OES don't get a coat but the hounds need them. And yes, I like pretty coats! Who cares if they are fancy or bright or whatever. The dogs certainly don't! As for demeaning the dogs, what a joke.
  10. Yep, he needs a vet visit. They will be able to give him something to stop the itching and pain. Sounds like allergies if this is not a usual behaviour for him.
  11. IH means in-house. They haven't sent bloods or urine off, they have just done an in-house test.
  12. Go Bev! Great photo and well done on losing so much weight!
  13. I had a destructo dog and he never grew out of it. We had 12 years of management. I would crate her when you can't be with her and give her a big bone or stuffed kong etc to keep her occupied. Look at teaching her tricks, playing games, etc. And maybe look at getting her a weighted back pack for walks to tire her out more. With walking, I think you need to teach the 'look at that' game and take a tonne of treats on walks. Shovel the treats in when you see another dog to try and keep her attention on you.
  14. We see it on here all the time - anytime anyone dares to criticise a breed's traits or appearance or health, some breeders and breed supporters cry foul. The back and legs if the GSD are a prime example. And the fact that brachy breeds continue to suffer from these issues is proof enough for me that the majority of breeders are not doing anything. I have heard of a handful of breeders that strive for fit, healthy brachy dogs but most seem to strive for show winners which display the extreme features. Another example is the Shar Pei. If a registered breeder tells you it is normal for your dog to need surgery in order for it to SEE, then something needs to change.
  15. Where has anybody said that it's all pedigree breeders fault?? My point is that pedigree breeders always want to blame the BYB for problems in some breeds and that is simply not the case. They are just as much to blame as the BYB and their culture of burying their heads in the sand has to stop or they are going to face some serious questions. All brachy dogs have brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome to some extent. All of them. Also, why are you getting narky at those in the veterinary industry? What have they got to gain by warning people about brachy breeds? Less business? Doesn't make sense. I am in the veterinary industry and I am all for pedigree dogs. I own pedigrees and hope to breed one day.
  16. It's great that more workplaces are embracing this idea. There us nothing better than being able to cuddle your dog when you are having a rough day. I am lucky enough to be able to bring my dogs to work (vet clinic) and our new clinic (currently being built) has a huge tea room designed especially so that our dogs will have plenty of room to lounge around. ????
  17. I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Ziggy x
  18. I saw one picture of that cat in the freezer with blood around it.
  19. According to the volunteers, there were bloody claw marks in the freezer which is why they thought that cat may have been alive too.
  20. Who cares what they were told? It is NEVER excusable or acceptable to put 1, possibly 2, LIVE cats in a feeezer.
  21. I didn't know that about Scottish Folds, but I'm 100% in agreement with you regarding soundness. With some breeds now it seems routine to have to do corrective surgery due to droopy skin on eyes, so many breeds cannot give birth normally, and that's been going on for decades. I remember my mum telling me when I was a kid that boxers and chihuahua often need caesars because the puppies heads are too big, and the bitch's pelvis too small. Even back then I thought that just seemed wrong. I'm horrified by the appearance of some dogs, for me the worst would be the Cane Corso. How it ever got to look like it does now and be considered good is beyond me. I always feel sorry for those dogs when I see them lumbering along with all that skin drooping and flopping about. I think you mean the Neopolitan Mastiff? :) Cane Corsos aren't too bad in terms of wrinkles and saggy skin.
