  1. I've been run over by a horse after a helicopter went over. I imagine if animals are injured or people they could be up for some serious lawsuits.
  2. "Farming bodies have criticised an animal welfare group's plan to use a drone to film farming practices on properties around Australia, with one saying the drone would be shot down. Animal Liberation has purchased a surveillance drone equipped with a powerful camera. The group says the drone can film from as low as 10 metres above the ground to gather potential evidence of animal abuse. Spokesman Mark Pearson says the practice will not contravene trespass or privacy laws. He says animal welfare is in the public interest. "Farming practices, whether they be illegal or whether they be common farming practices which are to be put into question, such as mulesing and leaving animals without shelter in extreme temperatures, then that it in the public interest," he said. "If there is public interest, then that is not an invasion, it is a service to the community. "The High Court has already dealt with the issue of privacy. "We're not interested in people's personal lives and what's happening in their homes, but if you have a business which uses animals then that is of public interest, and that's been dealt with by the High Court." Rest of the story http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-03-31/animal-welfare-group-to-monitor-farms-with-drone/4602644 I've worked on stations and farms and have to say that I don't see drones lasting long. Farmers aren't going to take to being spied on very well.
  3. Some owners can't afford it at time of first vax, the vets highly recommend it but they can't force someone to do it.
  4. I love the "you're the adult" comment. Lmao.
  5. I don't agree with it. I see way too many working dogs in the pound unidentified. I personally wouldn't want dogs that i bred sitting in a pound. I guess many of the farmers I know don't really care where their dogs end up, once they leave their land that's it for them. I also think chipping is a good idea as working dogs are worth a lot and anyone can take your dog and say it's theirs or if it's in the pound and no chip and you don't see it, there it goes. Chipping is fantastic.
  6. You cant register them for free the chip details are on the registry and you dont register the dogs .Its not that you register them for free you just dont register them. Living on farmland doesnt give you an exemption from chipping your pups - no matter where you live no matter what you do with them every single dog in NSW has to be chipped - every single puppy anyone breeds has to be chipped at point of sale or at 12 weeks. Working breed dogs which are working dont need to be registered. I was told by the council that if the dogs live on zoned farmland or out on stations the pups don't have to be chipped. As I don't fall into that catergory I had to chip my pups. Also I register any dogs I keep but it costs me nothing to do so as they work. Sorry MUP you're right - thank you .I learned today that MY council dont know the laws either. http://www.dlg.nsw.gov.au/DLG/Documents/information/Dogs_in_Rural_Communities_-_Brochure.pdf Don't worry, I was checking my council's website to make sure I was told the right thing as well.
  7. I have two tattooed dogs, one is a flank tattoo and the other is an ear tattoo and neither dog was anaesthetised to do it. If he wants to tattoo his dog I don't see the issue, as long as it's put under for something that big.

  9. I'll be having my first working kelpie litter in a few months and have done a heap of research on it. It clearly states that I have to have my puppies chipped as I do not live on farmland, but due to the fact that my dogs are working dogs and do actively work I can reg for free any dogs I keep and as I'm only selling my dogs as workers whoever buys them can reg them for free as well. My friend however is living in farmland zone only 20ks away and he didn't have to have his pups chipped before sale. I like the idea of chipping working dogs, as tattoos can be impossible to read.
  10. Congrats. Have a chat with Katdogs, she recently got an awesome black lab puppy!
  11. Possibly doing that. I guess I'll have to get my own team of mix sizes lol
  12. My kelpie is quite a bit taller than the dog she had in mind to do it though, so maybe she needed dogs under that to make a team? I have no idea how flyball works lol
  13. What dogs does this lady have then? I would be very curious to know where she got the idea that only little dogs compete? She is going to be in for a massive shock if she ever goes to a flyball comp  She has borders (on the smaller side), which is what confused me.
  14. It's a puppy party! You're like a pig in mud over there lol
  15. No worries lisa, the lady is just getting it started so once it's a definite go I will let you know. I'll tell her you're interested though. it'll be in Coota most likely. And thanks everyone else. My kelpie is an insane jumper, I'm taking her in the kelpie dash and high jump next year at Casterton hopefully, so I thought flyball would be right up her alley since, she jumps, has speed and likes balls. I was quite surprised when the lady said she was too big.
  16. Heya, Just had a chat to someone yesterday who is considering setting up a flyball club here and asked me to join. I've only ever watched it and don't know much about it but have a ball obsessed kelpie that would love to do it. I mentioned my kelpie and she told me that a kelpie is too big and only little dogs can go in it and told me I should bring my JRT instead. My JRT has nil interest in chasing toys or balls so I was disappointed. However, I watched a video today though and it showed border collies and aussies doing it. Was that a special case and is there a height restriction or was she incorrect and I can take my kelpie?
  17. Find the instigator. Our dogs just started chasing the cat one day and we had the cat behind the window quite a few times and pinpointed which dog started the tension and once we trained that dog to not react to the cat the others followed suit.
  18. There's a lady who walks a staffy type dog on a retractable lead around here. I avoid her like the plague as her dog dominates the footpath and she lets it go wherever it likes and it seems to be quite dog reactive. I hate retractable leads with a passion.
  19. Thanks. I watched a few Amish movies (mainly For Richer for Poorer) and they kept on un-shunning people.
  20. Ok thanks guys, so nothing too bad to worry about.
  21. Well we've been in drought so I suppose it is nice and green now. She doesn't seem to be nauseated and it's not followed by vomiting. She does it of an afternoon when she plays with the other dogs (sometimes) but more regularly when working. It could just be a ew and exciting thing to do and she does love eating. it's just weird lol.
  22. Why does my dog eat grass whilst herding the sheep? When she's working she'll randomly pluck grass. She doesn't seem anxious and has always been a casual worker so don't think it's anxiety. She'll just cast out and grab at the grass.
