Car Question For New Big Dog (Don't Laugh)
Steph M replied to MAZNAT's topic in General Dog Discussion
I actually feel like we had more room in my ford fiesta hatchback than my mitsubshi lancer sedan too. The seats folded down, we had the back seat AND the hatch for canines. With the lancer, while it is an awesome car, I do have concerns about dogs and babies in the back seats together. Dogs might be riding shotgun and OH in the back with baby until we can afford a second car. Will def be another hatch though! -
Ha. Me too. I would never own a working breed for that reason. I feel like Sid and I are even steven  Same! Every day I know what I am gonna get with him, we have an agreement, we work well as a team. For me, at this stage of life and in time he is perfect, and he is smart because he has his whole life worked out, and he has developed ways to ask for what he needs and what behaviors to show to get rewards, but put obstacles in front of him and he looks to me for guidance, which is PERFECT, for me.

Mine just gave up, he knew dinner would come anyway so what the hey. Hahaha.

But huski how would you define intelligence? Is it problem solving? Obeying commands? Ability to work? Learning new.skills? Retaining info? I'm not.convinced you can line up two dogs, especially of different breeds and say one is smarter than the other. Its like people, I'm hopeless at math, but really great in other areas. Does this make.me less smart?
-
That's it! But for you, he's perfect right? Thats how it works! Haha. And again, no one bashing border collies, but this chart basically calling them top dog is calling questioning. No one is being critical, just making differing points.

http://petrix.com/dogint/intelligence.html This is also interesting, along the same lines the Afghan comes up as "least intelligent" but its based in part on learning and obeying new commands. Um, no. That dog is just smart enough to know it doesn't have to do jack. Also if anyone has met my flat coat, he is no canine genius. Like stressy said, he looks to us for direction and works hard, but I've seen him walk into a glass door more than 3 times before realising he couldn't teleport through...

Also, calling a pointer, husky or whippet dumb. LOL. I like my dogs a little slower than me mentally. Its how I keep up, dammit!
-
Gotta be frank about it! Not everyone wants a super smart, working dog, some people want different things. Imagine a world where it was just you top right corner, booooring. :)

Oh...my...god. Some of these are hilarious!

Just off the back of another thread I confessed I had taken Gus to the vet for a penile infection of some sort, he was leaking an awful coloured muck, so we went in and saw the vet student first up, poor guy was baffled and said they would take some swabs but he might call in the vet for a second opinion, vet walks in, takes one look and goes “….thats sperm” Neither of us walked out of that room happy, at least they took pity on me and didn’t charge! The other one that springs to mind is a groomer we took mums one eyed Shih Tzu too, I came out of a shop to 7 missed calls from the groomer and rang back in a panic, turns out she wanted to know if she had one eye when she came in… she thought it had somehow popped out in the bath, and wouldn’t let the water out in case she let it go down the plug hole…. I don’t know if she thought she could pop it back in or what, but she had one eye for about 5 years prior, it wasn’t a new wound by any stretch, and if it had popped out it was very neat and she was very quiet about it all…. Share your shame! I could use a laugh.

I feel like this deserves its own thread....hahaha

In our defense, the vet student was baffled too. When he called the vet in she was like "...that's sperm" So wasn't just me with a red face! Woohoo! Glad your dog didn't get a nippleectomy!

Cripes. My dog has fart attacks in his sleep, can I cry defect? I don't want to send him back though, seems I'd fit right in! A normal person would have called to voice their concerns before racing off to the vet for seizures... Havins said that, Gus went to the vet once for a penis infection...it was jizz. I was horrified.

Gus in -5 snow last year? Bliss. Gus in +15 without his blankie? Basically dying, or so he says. Gus is also a 36kg retriever who likes his creature comforts. I think its sweet. Whatever helps him.sleep in...

Beautiful words! I had a laugh and a little cry, the perfect eulogy! :) What a fabulous legacy she left for you and your kids.

Won't the neighbors be mad when they are under siege from bears and the like.

I am so keen to give this a go. We are in an area where fleas are abundant, so mine get regular flea treatment, if we could be protected longer and give them less I am all about it!

What's The Best Way To Cut Up Pigs Ears?
Steph M replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
You can buy strips of them already cut up, but that might be too small... -
My first bet would be a really thorough vet check. Perhaps his eyesight isn't great or something else is going on? Have they had him looked over?
-
Is she staying, Nek?! Woooo!
-
In all fairness, I bet with all that barking there weren't too many predators...haha.

This sounds like a challenge that needs documebting! Like a DOL doco, Maddie meets Huski.
