Fabulous! I'll find what she likes to do yet! Trick training is a good hint. -

I agree, but he's sort of stalled at just over 20kg, so actually gone down a kilo or two, but he's never looked porky. It's hard to gauge but I think Hank will be fine too! He looks lovely in your photo updates! -

Some Koolies are very finely built, she looks Koolie to me :) I don't know a lot about Koolies, I've always admired them from afar, they seem like lovely dogs! Any handy hints, Kavik? :p We're much more active already! Hahaha. -
I do wonder though how you might test for this, as an owner of a very bloaty breed I can't imagine any way other than record keeping, and as with ED or HD it sounds to me like a lot of environmental, external influence. (food fed, when, how soon after exercise, water intake and when etc etc) It's a horrifying thing and I wish there were a really simple way to tell!

Thank you! We're thrilled!

+1 She looks almost identical to a whippetXkoolie I knew years ago! That's what her paperwork says, she's certainly busy enough! And has to know what's happening and what's on! Oddly enough her brothers DNA test said whippet x JR. I know they're a bit off, but interesting!
-
She could do, but she's very fine. She could be anything and everything but it did cross my mind. She certainly is busy and knows what she wants! She keeps Gus in line too, very funny. He just cannot keep up, he's not built for speed it seems. We're thrilled, she's so cool. We had planned to wait another 6-12 months but she was just perfect from the getgo.

He sounds pretty healthy to me, and dogs all gain and lose weight differently. Maybe shoot an update email off to your breeder and ask how on track he is, I bet it's fine. I worry Gus doesn't weigh enough sometimes but he's a happy, healthy (mostly) and well built dog so I have to tell myself the age old 'weight is just a number etc etc' haha. Plus Hank's probably expended a lot of energy kicking the butt of his KK. Go Hank! -

Koolie, Whippet and JR. I don't see much JR but apparently that featured highly in her brother's DNA test, which I know are often a crock but I'd be interested to see it anyway. She doesn't strike me as much Koolie other than her colouring, but I don't know much about Koolies. She's only 11kg so maybe that's the JR influence? Haha. -
I don't have the fortitude for that when we're so close to Friday! She's so funny, very cool looking lady and very expressive! The bum to bum is what I come home to usually, or one draped over the other on the blanket-pile-bed in the corner of the room. It was instant love!

All fixed, crisis averted!

I didn't realise, it's certainly not that I care terribly and am trying to make up a designer breed name or anything, just a bit of fun because she's such an oddball. I'll ask to have it removed.
-
She certainly is! She's very unique, I got the best look of total disdain at 4am this morning when she politely woke me up and mentioned she needed a wee and I had the nerve to ask her to commence said wee in the rain. She got out to the deck and just looked so doleful and went back to bed.

Gus is a tank, haha. He's growing upward rather than gaining much at the moment, but he's so cool lately. Never a dull moment! I look back at his 8week photos and it's like an eternity ago! -
We adopted Miss Rosie on Sunday, and her adoption papers are a heady mix of breeds, there's 3 seperate ones listed on her different forms. The obvious one is whippet, she's very whippet-y (as far as I know) and almost cat like in her delicacy. Has to be on us, or on the couch. She's fast as anything too! Safe to say she's exhausting Gus, which is no mean feat! We're all reveling in the obvious differences between the two dogs, she's the same age as he is (aprox 6 months) but they're so vastly different, but so complementary to one another and she's so adoring! The only concern I had was the cats, but her foster carers have obviously put a lot of work into her, she doesn't chase them, but they don't really run. We're being careful but so far so good. She is actually very well behaved. And so responsive! She's a small dog, all muscle at 11.2kg!

This is madam Rosie. I'm starting a breed guess thread because she is a heady mix of godknowshwhat. Haha. Even her adoption papers say 3 different breeds! Haha. Tyrion looks like bundles of fun! -

You have to laugh about these things, plus seeing my lovely boyfriends face when the vet was prodding and swabbing Gus's goods was priceless. He went white. A subliminal threat to behave perhaps. Haha. -
Must go with the name!

Just to add, congrats. Such a rubbish time. I'm sure pup will be a lovely comfort!

I think OP might have been counting on her OH being home and that's since changed, these things happen. I have no real advice, tbh we went totally against the rules. I took a few weeks off, Brooke is home all the time and now he goes out for a day and the dog is left home and is fine and happy. Oops. Haha. Best bet would be make sure he learns to entertain himself, put him out for a few hours a day with toys and bones and things to do, try make sure he isn't with you 24/7. That could become problematic!

We had a good one at work yesterday, no dogs present though! Woman who's son is volunteering at the RSPCA- "I'm against it though, I don't want him to get all those dog diseases. He could get the flu or parvo!" Then 'He wants a dog but I can't stand them, I said he could have a guinea pig cause they don't get sick or get fleas or mites" Uhhhh... Sure.

I've been so slack, I know! We picked her up on Sunday night after taking Gus to the beach (he found a huge dead fish and proceeded to have his way with it while we weren't looking) after spending the day at the Lort Smith after discovering young mister had a delightful discharge coming from his nether regions. Fabulous. The vet was most patient and asked if he'd slowed down, been more lethargic or off his food. I had to laugh, who doesn't love the old retriever pain tolerance? I feel like his leg could fall off and he wouldn't let on. Anyway, all is fine. He has antibiotics for 10 days and then they want to have another look, but the vet suspects the inner willy might not be fitting in the willy cover, so if that's the case he might have to undergo a sort of canine circumcision, and I'd be getting him desexed at the same time if that's the case. Two operations in 6 months or so would be too much. And then on Monday I started a fab new job! Left the other half with the kids at home. Haha. He's coping well so far, Rosie is settling in like a charm, is good with the cats (they don't run, clever cats!) and had no accidents inside, though this morning I did ask her to go out in the rain for a wee and she got as far as the edge of the deck and oh what a look of disdain I got! Hahaha she's a really funny young lady. I have Brooke emailing me a few photos as I speak. Hope Sumo is feeling better! It's so stressful when they're off!
